Man, I lost my VL turbo calais almost 20 years ago now, good to see them still around kicking butt! Those engines never seem to age...

Been a rev head all my life. I even worked at the Holden Proving Ground for some years. I bought a Nissan Leaf electric car just to find out how they work and became addicted. Now I have a Tesla Model S and would never look back. You can't beat an EV for driving every day. You get more power off the line than that awesome VL has, without a smoke show at every intersection.
BTW, don't get me wrong, I'm still a revhead and have a V8 4WD and an old 1930 Ford I love to tinker with. I still love the mechanical aspect of cars, but much prefer to drive an EV.

Part of owning a high performance vehicle is the sound. Whether it's the Rumble and growl of a V8, or the high whine of a turbo, it adds to the characteristic of the vehicle. It's why people change the exhaust. Not just for power but the sound. While the tesla has the performance and will pin you back in your seat, it's missing the sound.
All that noise is two things: the sound of inefficiency, and the sound of your hard earned money burning...
I grew up here in NZ around v8s dad was a ford guy lol. Anyway Dad would take me and my siblings to Meremere dragway. Watching door slammers, nitro methane, You could hear and definitely feel the horse power from the stands. and when the v8 supercars would come to NZ in Pukekohe we would all go. As I grew up i went the way of the samurai Subaru. you definitely wanting more power after a few months with a few mods here even if they where driveway upgrades (cheap) but it was the fun and curiosity of wondering will it go better or blow up. These teslas are awesome wouldn't mind one my self. But in the future I can't imagine going to Meremere only hearing tire squeal lol I understand ev will eventually be dominant but that characteristic is gone because you vehicle is exactly the same AC motor as everyone else around you
@@ledsalesoz Inefficiencie let's look at the way humans fly, burning fossil fuels forcing the plane through the air to counter gravity. The most efficient way would be some sort of exotic technology that repeals the earth's gravitational pull making a flying vehicle float and using gravity to counter gravity making for a highly efficient mode of flight. Dose the technology exist not yet will it ever exist i say yes. If we can some day and some how control graviton particles i think humans would be on the right track. Well something like that. As for the inefficiencie of the combustion engine people all over the world have grown fond of them not because of the inefficiencie but because of each engine or vehicles character. But I do like the evs wouldn't mind owning P90D or P100D

Na not at all, electric rc cars have always been the quickest. Thats all they have going for them, Tesla looks ugly and is a tesla so not very cool unless your a mum. Overpriced too. Won't last very long before batteries need a replacement. Plus Elon musk has a issue with making a car that is just good and not trying to be something it's not. Like the autopilot features ect, I would never buy one until all the querks have been fixed and it's not ugly. And did I already say "its a tesla" 😂😂

I used to own a yellow VL Turbo ex police interceptor, it was a such a great car! Now I own a Tesla model 3 performance. That initial acceleration of the Tesla is so addictive! I do miss the VL though.

@@jeffsymons7084 my point being - comparing a street legal car to one that isn’t in street trim is a little like comparing apples 🍎 to 🍊 . Unless the Commodore drives daily on slicks. If that was the case the Tesla should have ran in a race trim too - ripped out it’s interior and ran semi slicks/slicks as well. If the show is trying to replicate a traffic light 🚦 street race (no prep, no warm up burnout) then it should extend to other street aspects - like running street legal tyres?? It’s a minor point when comparing an unmodified electric vehicle to a highly modified ICE one - but a point of difference nonetheless. Do I just rock up with a top fuel car and race street cars?

And sure, you could race a street car verse a top fuel, and label the video street car verse top fuel. Just lke the title of this video is accurate. I dont see anywhere where its stated things should be different.
Even with the mods and slicks, the Tesla put up a good show, just more credit to it. Still dont want one though, but they are good performers.

See the joy the vl gives the owner. The other guy he acts like it's the future of his business I see it as the end of joy in his business. No mods no passion ev's. Modifying or fixing a car is about a process of achieving it unites people creates a community modified cars are more about this. If you don't get what I'm saying go buy a tesla personally I'm not a fan. But I would buy a hq monaro, rx3 and a 68 camaro if I had the money to buy a Lamborghini and many would not understand that. you like what ya like.
Just a different technology, there’s please of modifying and fixing available, just new skill sets to become familiar with.

Look its all fun but no real competition electric v combustion why not just strap a jet engine on the VL see how the four wheel drive electric goes then ,its like saying men and women are the same sure both human but thats it both cars but thats it ,there is a real challenge trying to get a combustion eng two wheel drive vehicle to get down the track quickly its definitely not easy ,its a bit of a giggle though

Dead stock ev vs a heavily modified ice ? Yawn. Good luck claiming on your insurance for your modified VL in the advent of a crash, fire , theft - you just know what the insurance company will say. The VL is also a cop magnet, and I doubt it is driven on the road very much at all for that very reason. The Tesla is a true daily drive.

The Tesla is nice but too clinical. You can't beat the old school mechanical feel and enjoyment such as the VL Commodore turbo.
Go drive one… that acceleration is addictive. Just the response time alone is mind blowing.
If you really care about the feel of a car, why not install a crank shaft to start the dam thing, because feels lol.
