Isang Yun - Muak "Dance Fantasy" (1978)

  • Composer: Isang Yun (윤이상 Yun Isang) (September 17, 1917 - November 3, 1995)
    Orchestra: Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Saarbrücken conducted by Hans Zender
    This piece is formed out of two opposing dances: a boisterous, rhythmic "European Dance" and a calm, elegant "Korean Dance."
    I really love the Sheng effect Yun creates in the woodwinds with the use of Sheng-like clusters, swells, and continual separation and rejoining of voices.
    ∪ is quarter-tone down, and ∩ is quarter-tone up.

    This is INCREDIBLE. I was mesmerized the entire way through, which rarely happens. Also, fun fact: Muak in Indonesia means sick/fed up lol

      Isang Yun was Korean, and Muak(무악) in Korea means music for dance

    와~~~내가 찾아 헤메던? ㅋ 곡이 이런 스타일 이었는데 ......

    When you say "Sheng-like", do you mean Bright Sheng? BTW, that picture shows him holding a book about himself

      I think he means the Chinese instrument.

    • @Cmaj7
      @Cmaj7  3 года назад +7

      Yes, the instrument 笙, read as Sheng in Chinese, Saeng in Korean, or Shō in Japanese. It's a part of old imperial court music (雅樂/yayue/aak/gagaku) that I believe this is based on.

    • @XinhaoZheng
      @XinhaoZheng 3 года назад +6

      They mean and do something. Otherwise you can cancel out double sharp or flat signs, slurs on harp and basically all percussions, and anything like these.

    • @AndreyRubtsovRU
      @AndreyRubtsovRU 3 года назад +4

      @@XinhaoZheng well, your comment looks like you are saying smart things that makes sense but the truth is - it doesnt. You will never tell the difference in a blind test between, say, viola player playing pizz with a slur or without. Maybe uou will on an open string on a doublebass. But its such a miniscule difference - it just shows composer to be a show-off.
      Comparing it to a double-sharp is just sillyness
