I also use to work in Waikiki, so I had to go through MWH to catch The Bus. And vice versa when I came home. I guess I was just lucky af, because nothing ever happened to me. Maybe attending Maumakapili church helped me out...just maybe.
Used to work at the State Capitol which is adjacent to Hotel Street, King and all the areas crossing through Chinatown. Best local markets and eateries in the city. But I didn’t hang out there at night unless it was with some of the local soup kitchens or other groups servicing folks experiencing homelessness. But that’s only because I am a gal. I had a few university friends at Mayor Wright and they worked so hard w/school, job and caring for younger siblings. Some super sweet people in that mini-community and I miss those days a lot. ❤
Thank you. No, they are not safe. Definitely, you don’t want to be an outsider in these areas. Just to further that point, moving to Honolulu in general is like moving to a different country, instead of a different state. You want to know local culture very well before moving to Hawaii. I wish you luck on your move. It’s very expensive here - I’m sure you know that.
It's completely safe unless you go to the project housings which I'm sure is "unsafe" in every state. I'm from Maui and I've been to Oahu many times and never got an unsafe vibe. When I was 13 we would walk around at night and find people to buy us alcohol or cigarettes or score some weed. There are so many cops in the tourist/shopping area that there's very little to worry about.
Poverty has nothing to do with a person deciding to throw their trash on the floor. Folks just love romanticizing their shitty lives. They don't want out of poverty as much as they want their drugs.
Detroit is extreme. There’s no comparison. Different set of circumstances , history, culture, ethnicities. Hawaii is like a different country then a different state. More less, this video is showing people places, most people will never go, and that they never knew about.
Lived on Oahu for 4 years its some very bad areas in Hawaii but overall they’re dull great people. It’s like any other hood in the world they won’t fuck with you unless you fuck with them or you disrespect a woman.
Sad sight to see all of those tents and shopping carts lined up at the parks and buildings. Is there still a problem with mainland cities sending homeless there? I dig the commentary.
Thank you Brother. People say that these homeless are sent over from the mainland, but I have a hard time believing that many of these people could successfully get through security and sit on plane for a minimum of 5 hours. Most of them are insane, and a lot of them are hooked on drugs. I think a lot of the homelessness has to do with the high cost of living here and the drug problem.
The problem is that there is still slaughter-housing of any kind going on & a lack of facilities concerning imprisonment in the first place. To sobriety however. 🤹
@@truthfilledtrajectorychant9200 it is definitely a bit of each. I am going straight for my commercial driving license for school bus driving & living at the nearest homeless shelter to it until things happen. 👣
@@truthfilledtrajectorychant9200 it's actually a real issue about other states sending their homeless. But they have a vetting system on who can be sent. They do it to the big cities in California too. But they prefer California, because they have better programs for the homeless. It saves their states choke dollars, by sending them to other states.
Living at IHS shelter was tuff , had some bad nights out there and got jumped by mob of Somoans , had to get surgery from that. Made my stay even worse.. Went out there for a combat PTSD program at ft Tripler aka the pink palace..Started as paradise.. didn't work out and i had no place to really go , US vets at Barbers point was fakin , had to go to hit IHS and the tents....Was ruff man.. Every place got some hell for you especially in a city.. Was good people here to ... Came back to DC and Richmond VA and stayed in the shelters and lock up .. Doin good now and got a place.. this just kinda brought it back a lil.. Locals can't afford a place on there own island it's fucked up and they mad , so stay safe out there .. Almost impossible to live there , kinda miss it a lil tho..
IHS would be rough. Hawaii is a lot rougher and ghetto then outsiders think. That’s why I made a few of these vids just to show the other side…and my footage barely captured that.
There are good people in the bad areas too. Hawaii is generally nice. If you are trying to compare to Chicago, it’s not even close to as bad, and also Honolulu is much newer then Chicago. Not as runned down looking. LA is that way too. You may not realize you’re in a bad part here, but things go down and people don’t make enough to live here.
@@truthfilledtrajectorychant9200 OK one Chicago is not Ran down. it's a beautiful place to live. U have your bad areas out here yes. All I was say that Hawaii is full of nice people. And I don't have anything Negative to say about it.
Factz. I’m here as I speak and I also tried to find the hoods and didn’t see shit. I did get to see the bike life crew tho. Ain’t nothing ghetto here. I’m from Washington DC
Bad areas are usually in the poor areas and have a lot of crimes. I would bet that Hawaiians, Samoans and other Pacific Islanders are in the poor areas. Same with the popolos on the mainland. I'm a Kalihi boy, but I left Hawaii in 1953. Kalihi was a nice place from the sea and up to the mountains.
😔 Sad… TFTC, mahalo for this vid. Been to Hawaii plenty of times and I never really knew this side of the 5-0. U keep spreading the word. Thanks for watching. Check it out my day time videos. Specifically “the worst areas of Honolulu” Yes, a lot of people don’t realize that Honolulu is an actual large city with urban decay like anywhere else.
some are over exaggerations. Especially when you come from crazier neighborhoods from the mainland. Just gotta be street smart, like in any other shady place.
It’s our worst areas at night. Hawaii is not that old and destroyed looking as much as older hoods in the US. Some hoods in the US have had a good 100 years of time to fuck it up, compared to ours. Lots of population density on this island. Lots of cars
Hawaii is not all fun and daiquiris in the sun. It's got a real dark side that you can't help but notice when it's in your face. The poverty many Hawaiians endure, a good portion of them native, is outright criminal. But it's by design. This is what the American empire brings to the world.
@@truthfilledtrajectorychant9200 I had a lot of Hawaiin friends in when I was in college in L.A. in the 90s. A lot of them were very conflicted. They missed Hawaii because an ugly metropolis like L.A. can't compete, and yet they knew their islands were being destroyed and had this feeling that they could never go home. It was sad. I remember a lot of my fellow mainlander students were shocked when native Hawaiians expressed a lot of anti US sentiment, but that's because they were ignorant of it. Hawaiians are also Native American people, indigenous, who have been brutalized by empire. This is why I support Hawaiin sovereignty. I don't see why Hawaii has to be used as an outpost of U.S. empire. The Guamanians are in the same kind of situation. American culture and military domination have been catastrophic there as well, and the Marshall Islands, American Samoa, etc. But Americans are not taught about this. They don't know about Bikini Island or about what the Americans and British did at Diego Garcia, taking over the island and kicking out the native people. Americans are poorly educated for a reason.
It's because Hawaiians are mentally lazy. It's the culture stupid. I am 1/4 Hawaiian with Japanese and Chinese mixed in. I saw what was going on and didn't like it. I left the islands in 1953 and graduated from a prestigious university as an electrical engineer. I got poi in the freezer and old Hawaiian music on my music system. I was born and raised in Kalihi and now live in Austin, Texas. I was always a maverick and never follow the herd.
@@truthfilledtrajectorychant9200 it would be in your best interest to stay away from those areas, i mean it is at.your own risk and yes we do live on an island but people to take it to extreme levels. The side i live on is no stranger to violence, people do get killed and it’s becoming more and more frequent. @@808longjon I’m thinking about moving to Hawaii from Texas. I don’t wanna get in trouble for defending myself at all. But what if I REALLY had to defend myself ??? Doesn’t make sense bro, they got stand your ground laws but you can’t carry …
I can see that being helpful. I sort of copied the genre of dashcam videos in hoods like Charliebo313. This type of experience allows the viewer to just take it in and let yourself feel the vibe of the place. With me, I had to add commentary because I am a podcast host, so it’s a blend of both.
Depends. It used to be worse with reputation. Most of the gangsters are locked up or have gotten old and mellowed out. That goes for most areas these days, Kalihi, Waianae etc. A lot of people hang out at night though. Aniani and pupus are weed and seed communities and it is rough when things boil over.
No judgement here. There’s nice people everywhere. In fact, more humble down to earth people live in poorer areas then well off people. I’d much rather hang out with people who have very little then pompous egos who think they’re great.

Dude… not to be rude…. But as long as you can maintain a job that pays 16.00$ you can get a single studio and room for 1000.00. Vs were I live in California a Basic studio goes for 1600.00. Such a beautiful place. I will re-locate here. I’m not saying anywhere you can find a studio for 1k in Hawaii. But you can def. find one for close to that range.
There are things you may not be factoring in though. Food is almost double then on the mainland. People often last 6 months here. Jobs pay less here then on the mainland. No offense, but culturally, locals don’t really like people from California and the mainland in general. Hawaii is it’s own culture really. So, it’s not that catering toward newcomers here. Which makes it hard if you don’t have family. Just things to consider. The reality of hawaii is, it’s a nice place, but for the rich. This video drives by a stabbing and a beatdown, that’s just in one night. These are the areas you’d live off of at $16 an hour.
@@truthfilledtrajectorychant9200 I’ll be 1000% the food cost here in California is the same. The gas in California is the way more. Let’s say you get paid 16.00 an hour. By weekly that’s around 1k to 1,100.00. With a partner and smart managing of the funds. I think the locals can deal with me roaming the streets, just like I can deal with them not liking us lol. I love the tropical forest and there is no place I’ve been like Hawaii. We’ll of course if I actually decide to retire over there. But that’s the dream.
Pursue the dream. California has gotten outrageous with prices The best thing to do when moving here is be real humble, respect and yield to the culture here. How newcomers carry themselves here, goes far.
@@truthfilledtrajectorychant9200 I totally agree with you my friend!!! being around so many generous people, I’m such a beautiful place was eye opening. Those areas are bad but it's nothing compare to dangerous ghetto places in L.A, NY, Detroit or Chicago. Watch for a group of Chuukese Micronesians if you bump into them on the streets. 7 out of 10 times, they are gonna try to do something bad.
Yes, you’re pretty spot on. These areas were worse also in the 90s with gang activity. Those cities you mentioned are all much bigger then Honolulu and the mainland is more heartless generally.
Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say On a bright Hawaiian Christmas day That's the island greeting that we send to you From the land where palm trees sway
LOL...trying my best to figure out what the purpose of this video is. Poverty is no more extreme in Hawaii than anywhere else. Useless people and mentally ill are everywhere. Compare to Detroit, St. Louis, Cleveland, or most of rural Mississippi for REAL poverty.
you should see the slums were i live, much worse than this, where are all the people? The type of person makes me ill and so angry. I think also itts a bloody gov, manipulatiion..thx
Hawaii slums are not as bad as many mainland ones anymore. In the 90’s you would have seen gang members on corners etc. Yes, you are right about the lockdowns. They have killed more people then this scam of 99.97 survival rate flu. The bs will not end until humanity wakes up and puts an end to it itself. The Elite will just keep closing in the hand of control til we cannot move. Everyone who is not a bamboozled sheeple needs to make telling the truth to people their life work, unrelenting.
I literally waited until the end of the video to see the dangerous part. Is this a mock video? Did you just make this because you were bored? This is click bait
This is just a random night’s drive through our worst parts of town. It’s not meant to be anything other then observing. You might not be familiar with the genre of dashcam videos. Everyday life isn’t always that interesting, but we passed by a stabbing, what more action did you want?
I do narrate at the end. I’ve partially emulated the format of Charliebo313 channel, except that I narrate at the beginning and end. With these driving videos, I think silence allows you to take in the vibe a bit more. Over narration might drown it out. If you have questions on things let me know.
Yes. Things have calmed down a lot since the 90’s though. I used to see more of them, now mostly they hang out in project housing areas. It’s very rare you see gang colors anymore.
LOL. From Honolulu...these aren't even close to the worst ghettos in Honolulu. You are mistaking affordable/bad housing for ghettos in much of this video. And then you throw in some homeless encampments. Most of those areas you drove through weren't even necessarily poor people. Real estate is insane here, and regular working people live in horrible houses with multiple generations often.
All my life, these are the areas of worst crime, and worst reputation for, drugs, gangs, violence, homelessness etc. Chinatown, Kalihi, Iwilei, Waipahu. Yes, there are multigenerational hard working families, in these areas that bought homes back when they were more affordable. These areas are not 100% bad, and crime stats change. It’s like that anywhere. I went and drove around and caught interesting things on video, simple as that. If you think you can make a better video, go ahead and do that, instead of sitting behind a keyboard and complaining about someone else’s.
Yeah, well most of the people around are not even able to identify the problems in order to even get to solutions. Even if we don’t have answers to our problems, doesn’t mean we should ignore them, and not be talking about them. Bringing awareness to our problems is one step closer to getting solutions for many. This video is just improv while I’m driving, to get people thinking and still better then a lot of mindless bullshit out there. Take it as an advertisement for my podcast in which I do deal with big subjects, without censorship, and it is solution based.
I’m from here. I only visited some of the areas that have been notoriously bad for many years here. Do you want to make your own video and do better? If not, tell me what streets you think I should go, and be respectful fool.
Depends where on the mainland. These places have all had their bad times. West side used to look worse, but I think Kalihi and Waipahu are worse as far as urban decay.

This is not the slums, your just filming homeless people, plus your driving into areas that are obviously occupied by homeless. your probably not from hawaii.
I'm from Hawaii. I might be older then you, but these areas have historically been the worst parts. (at least in town)Parts of Kalihi, palama, chinatown, pupu streets, Aniani have all had the biggest rep for crime, gangs, etc for many years. Places change over time. As far as slums, homeless people in tents on the street is as slum as it gets. Keep in mind, this is only one drive, in one night.
Wrong not only governments way way more then that i still live in Hawaii but money talks and development of for the rich is not government that more investors business suites. Business gives two shits about the people at least the government tries to rebuild areas and its have been documented they tried.
If government didnt do these “good deeds” to save face, people would hate them even more and possibly revolt. Big business acts like it cares but it obviously doesn’t either. It’s really one big club and you and me ain’t in it. They’ll all friends at the top. We don’t matter. I do agree, developers out here in hawaii don’t care at all about locals and being able to afford it here.

Hawaii is dangerous at night? Try Detroit at night.
Detroit is extreme. There’s no comparison. Different set of circumstances , history, culture, ethnicities. Hawaii is like a different country then a different state. More less, this video is showing people places, most people will never go, and that they never knew about.

I'm from Richmond va and was here in oahu last week. Thats wild bro
I'm from Chicago. In Hawaii for vacation it so nice out here tried looking for the bad areas and nothing. All good people 👍
There are good people in the bad areas too.
The number one thing people tell me about Honolulu is that it’s great until the sun goes down. Get your butt indoors once the street lights come on!
Just these areas. Everything else is pretty safe, besides a few crazy homeless.
Wow..

Yea that’s true because a lot of it is cities you have to go deep in like where apartments are and shit
It’s our worst areas at night. Hawaii is not that old and destroyed looking as much as older hoods in the US. Some hoods in the US have had a good 100 years of time to fuck it up, compared to ours. Lots of population density on this island. Lots of cars

Avoid Kalihi, Waipahu, and Halawa and you should be fine
I was born and raised in Kalihi. It was nice back in the Thirties and Forties from Kalihi Kai to Kalihi Uka. I left Hawaii in 1953.
Where waipahu?? 94 block braatt
Hawaii is not all fun and daiquiris in the sun. It's got a real dark side that you can't help but notice when it's in your face. The poverty many Hawaiians endure, a good portion of them native, is outright criminal. But it's by design. This is what the American empire brings to the world.
Truth my friend
Ir has been like this (Hawaiians & Filipinos) as far as I can remember. I left Hawaii in !953. Oahu was too small to get away from the bad guys.

Yes. Things have calmed down a lot since the 90’s though. I used to see more of them, now mostly they hang out in project housing areas. It’s very rare you see gang colors anymore.
I was there 2 weeks ago and this is exactly what it looks like all I’m gunna say is it’s dangerous I don’t have time to tell you the story’s
It can be a dangerous place, but overall it’s pretty safe. It has been kicking off lately though
Where are the strip clubs hood clubs at?
Mostly on Kapiolani but there’s others sprinkled around.
First week huh

Yeah, well most of the people around are not even able to identify the problems in order to even get to solutions. Even if we don’t have answers to our problems, doesn’t mean we should ignore them, and not be talking about them. Bringing awareness to our problems is one step closer to getting solutions for many. This video is just improv while I’m driving, to get people thinking and still better then a lot of mindless bullshit out there.
