Here in Brazil .... there are several versions of PUMA. A very nice car, which accepts many adaptations. Including 2.5 engines of the new Subaru models with Radiator .... Congratulations on the car ....
nice to see a brazilian nugget outside the original country! just so you know the rear lights are from a early 80's VW FOX/VOYAGE, nice of you keeping the original magnesium wheels
It's a really cool car! I have a GTI 1981 and a GTE 1975. I love driving in the mountains with these cars. The rear flashlight of this model was used in VW Brasilia, a car made in Brazil and Mexico. Probably a difficult piece to find there in the United States .. but very cheap here in Brazil .. around $15 a pair ..
I’d be glad to give you a pair of original taillights if you’re still looking; I am near Montreal. Recently got new ones for my Puma and have the originals laying around; they are old but in fair shape for the age. Let me know. Great Puma btw, love the video 👍
It's actually working fine with two big electric fans. I also have a brand new water pump now which helps. Im thinking of getting a new radiator for it though. Mine is a bit old and patched up.
Does this have the original transmission or did you have to switch that out as well? I just found one ten minutes from me and I'm thinking about rebuilding it
It does look like and has similar dimensions as the Ferrari Dino, but no matter which one came first, it still has 240z-ish looking front end. Either way, people always ask me if it's a Porsche or a Z car..
Hey Bro, super big fan of these. My neighbour actually has a 1981 GTI 1600 as well. I was wondering how you find your parts for this in Canada. I was able to track down engine parts(spark plugs, ign wiring etc.) by searching for a 1971 VW Thing which has the same 1.6 air cooled engine. Do you have a main source where you get your parts from? a certain website, or manufacturer? I know its a VW platform, do you know if beetle or rabbit parts fit on this car for brakes, wheels etc? I work at Part Source here in Sault Ontario and I'm actually having a very difficult time finding parts for his car. Part Source doesn't have Puma's as a vehicle listing and the VIN is Brazilian so I'm having a hard time. Let me know man, I'd appreciate it!
I get the subaru parts from rockauto and the vw part from cip1! The hard part is to find the exact part needed since pumas have a shorter wheelbase so they need shorter clutch cables for example.
The Puma's design "evolved" with the times, but the engine remained the same VW air cooled shit! Brazilian investors just don't care about making exciting cars, and then complain that their brands disappeared!
In Brazil it is not available to import cars until 1991 and the national industry basically employed the Chevrolet 250 and the VW boxer, produced locally. You can see: Santa Matilde and Puma GTB, with GM 250 engine, fast cars. Puma and other Brazilian manufacturers have failed due to government protection of the "Big Four": Ford, Chevy, VW and Fiat
they couldnt put an exciting engine in it because of legislation that prohibited big engines like V8s enacted during the oil crisis in the 70s/80s. And they never repealed that stupid law.
Never imagined thered be a Puma in Canada. Kudoz from Brazil.
I’ve seen a few of them around Southern Ontario Canada. I think there ap was once even a Puma Association of Canada. Cool car I want one.
My father has one in Southern Ontario.
I'm going to STI swap it one day.
They were sold in Québec for 2 years, in 1981-1982.

That's a pretty nice car right there! Wasn't expecting to see a subaru-swapped canadian Puma when I woke up today.

That's awesome! Do you have an instagram or somewhere I can see your car with the wing?
Would love to see more videos on this thing, barely anything about Pumas on RUclips
This car is simply incredible Puma GTI is a wonderful car and to think it was made in Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

I was thinking about the same swap and I'm also in Quebec! I would remove the big wing. Everything else is perfect! Great job
Did you guys in Canada have the Puma too? How many?
@@pradogabriel a small number of Pumas was exported to the US and Canada. Most were sold as kit cars (no drivetrain, front end or wheels).
The wing got too big, it could be a more discreet one. The engine change was very good.

Wow, that's super generous of you! I bought a new pair from brasil since I posted the video though!
@@huikify nice, glad to hear you got new ones!! Cheers!
Did you custom build the transmission adapter and motor mounts or is there a kit available?
It's a custom adapter plate that an 85 year old mechanic still produces near Montreal, Canada.
i would have the radiator up front with an electric water pump to help circulating the coolant

you say it has some datsun look well this design is older than the Datsun Z it was made to resemble a Ferrari from 60's just look at a 1968 Puma
It does look like and has similar dimensions as the Ferrari Dino, but no matter which one came first, it still has 240z-ish looking front end. Either way, people always ask me if it's a Porsche or a Z car..

Lindo carro, parabéns.

Dude, how did you get this car in Canada?
They were sold in Ottawa in the early 80s. I’ve never seen another one in person, so they are quite rare here.
They were sold for 2 years in Québec/Ontario, 1981-1982.
Ficou bom, gostei.
Classic brazilian sports car
Did you sell the Puma a while back? Saw it on Kijiji months ago. Let me know if you still have it and are looking to sell it. Thanks
It might be up for sale again in a few months. I still own it but it is stored and I cant go get it right now with the Covid situation.
Holy sh*t
❤🇧🇷Brasil🇧🇷❤👏👏👏👏👏👏
Neat
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏👏👏
What year of Beetles does the puma take?
Puma was built from late 60s thru early 90s.
Brasil Car Very good!!
Any updates on the car? Do you still own it?
I do. The engine has been rebuilt this winter.. Unfortunately I cant go get it because of the quarantine. It might be for sale later this year.

how many hp?
around 100hp, similar to the original engine. Not much but still great considering it weighs less than a miata.

It's hardly a brazil car, italian immigrant uses german VW platform to build this.
of the time imperialism/globalism allowed Brazil to have its own creative industries
would be good for a turbocharger on this engine
Loose the wing !
This „wing“ on the rear hood looks terrible, sorry🤷🏼♂️
Lose the wing!
Never!
