@Jack Not quite, for some people they know young, but for others it takes a lot longer to figure out and that can be caused by external pressures that give people the idea that they can only behave a certain way, or the way that a large chunk of society deems "acceptable" and therefore pushing them into a box that they don't feel fits them but because they were forced to act that way their whole life they didn't really know any different until they may have started doing some self exploration away from said external pressures.
@Jack also i forgot to mention, gender identity, who you see yourself as, can change over time and develope into something different, this is why it can take people years of questioning to figure out what suites them best
@Jack From what I understood of your paragraph that seems correct, and I personally dont see why we should impose old-fashioned gender roles to our modern society, in all honesty it just holds back progression and feeds into toxic gendered standards that are completly unnecessary. And the work of the past LGBTQ+ members was certainly not for nothing, they started paving the way for a newer better place and we as a community have made strides of improvement thus far, even though of course we've still got a long way to go as a whole.

@@yordle_chan2519 No ,gender identity is who u are inside and your gender expression is what others percieve you as. Eg. Gender identity will be non binary ,boy ,girl,agender ect. Gender expresion will be masculine ,femnine, androginouse.
@@yordle_chan2519 I'm no where near an expert on this, so I suggest you do more research beyond this comment, but I think gender expression is how you express yourself physically, through makeup, clothes, etc. Gender identity is more complicated, kinda just what gender you feel you are. I myself am still struggling with that definition, but it is something more mental than gender expression. Anyways, have a good day!

This week is Trans awareness week in Canada. Kraft Canada has a limited edition book for sale for kids, and parents. It is called His, Hers, Them and Theirs: Learning Pronouns with the Bears. It features the two Kraft Bears, Smoothy and Crunchy learning about pronouns. It is written by a Canadian Trans male, Nick North, who lives with 5 kids and a partner in Vancouver.
I put this out for information, I don’t receive anything from it, only to hope to inform of its availability and existence.
I have not read it, though.
I am a boomer gay, who is learning about pronouns, so I can offer the same respect that I get from my family to others.
Your channel and this video is part of my education.

For everyone, an agender can indentify non-binary, it depends on the individual, I am agender and identify as non-binary too, but some individual who identify agender do not identify as non-binary too because they perceive non-binary as another gender, and since agender do not identify in any gender they do not see themselves as non-binary, however it all depends on the person
So do you use they/them pronous for them or does it depend on the person?

i’m agender and don’t identify as non-binary, because i don’t really have a gender at all, so i don’t feel i’m inside or outside of the gender binary. it’s different for everyone, this is just how i feel about it.
edit: i accept any pronouns. i don’t use pronouns myself, people use pronouns for me, and i’m fine with any of them. i’ve told people to just use whatever they’re comfortable using (so they don’t feel like they’re misgendering, since i’m afab a lot of people feel weird about using she/her for me in case it makes me uncomfortable. it doesn’t, but it’s a kind thought.), and some people try out using pronouns they’re not used to on me, such as neopronouns or it/its. most commonly people just use they/them for me anyway, since i present as trans-neutral and it’s easier to see me and neutral than masculine or feminine, that’s apparently just how i look.
I identify myself as agender, but i dont see myself as non-binary. For some reason i just dont feel comfortable being male, female, non-binary or any other gender other than agender. Ive recently discovered agender, and ive found that it fits me so much better. I dont just use they/them pronouns, i also use he/him, it/its and any neopronouns. Ive never felt comfortable with she/her pronouns, mostly she more than her for some reason.
One thing I want to point out: from what I understand, agender and pangender would be placed on the same spot on the spectrum. Bigender and Demigender would also likely have this problem. Could someone clarify this?
pangender from what i assume, would have points in all corners, because they experience multiple genders simultaneously, and bigender would two points i assume? and demi gender i would assume would be half way been two points🤔

Pangender would have a pin on every single point in the spectrum, because they feel every gender. Bigender (if someone felt like a man and a woman) would have 2 points, one on male and one on female. hope this helps :)

Same, my parents perceive LGBT+ as both a waste of time and a trend, and a way to "get attention". So, just _thinking_ about telling them to stop calling me a goddamn girl and see me as non-binary is basically a daydream. Luckily, I have my wonderful friends that do see me the right way, as non-binary, kudos to them they're amazing :)

I really enjoyed this video. Especially being a teen questioning my gender. I think I may be agender but I never can find a video talking about it to much so it was very great finding a video talking about different genders on the gender spectrum. And also talking about different ways to transition like wearing a binder or at appropriate age getting a surgery. Thank you!
Identifying as non-binary is the most liberating thing I could’ve done. It’s like I’ve been pushed down under the water for all my life and finally getting a breath of air. People kept telling me that I’m confused and I need to “get over” it but I know I can’t because I will never go back to drowning again
I think this is because now you don’t feel society’s pressure anymore to be a girl/boy.
That's such a perfect way to describe it. I'm genderfluid and have always felt pressure to change pronouns and presentation when my gender changes like everyone else that's genderfluid (that I saw, it's mostly just bad representation online) and to know exactly what gender I was every day, but when I let go of that and when I allowed myself to dress how I wanted, use the pronouns I want to, and remember that I don't have to always know my gender. (I mostly dress masculine/androgynous and I use all pronouns but prefer he/him and it/its) but I've also had the sane experience when I identify as non-binary, agender, or cassgender it's so nice not having that itching feeling that you shouldn't be dressing that way because you're (insert other gender here).

Definitions:
Genderfluid: a gender that shifts and changes
Non-binary: someone that has a gender that is not male of female
Agender: someone without a gender
Cassgender: for people who think their gender identity is of no importance and thus don't identify with one

The concept of gender has always bothered me. I just flatout don’t understand why we as humans even bother keeping the concept of gender around instead of just ditching it. When I talked to people about my perspective on gender, I was told I was “gender apathetic”. My main question, I guess, is “why is gender apathy so uncommon? Why do people even care about pronouns?”
I come to videos like this hoping I’ll finally be able to find a solid answer for this question, but most either don’t give me an actual answer, or just reaffirm the idea that gender as a concept just shouldn’t even exist. If it IS a social construct, why should anyone even care, if it’s essentially just made up labels?
I genuinely think the world would be a better place if everybody just used the same pronouns and the concept of gender was simply non existent. If anyone has an argument against this, by all means, please share it! I really want to finally get a decent answer to make me question my perspective, but I’ve never been able to find an argument that could actually do that.
Basically no one can argue because you are 100% correct.
To answer your question, one kind of has to work backwards.

I think the term "social construct" gets thrown around so much that it's lost some of it's weight. By definition, "A social construct is something that exists not in objective reality, but as a result of human interaction. It exists because humans agree that it exists." [1] In order for a social construct to exist, people have to believe that it exists. People care about it because it exists in their minds and it exists because people care about it. Dismantling a social construct requires the full cooperation of a societal majority to not only stop believing in it, but to remove its influence from the basic functions of society. With that understanding, it's important to understand why that occurs in the first place. A social construct as a concept is just the observable effects of humans attempting to categorize and distinguish between differences in the natural world in order to make sense of our surroundings.

The difference between gender and sex comes down to sex being an objective reality, while gender is the belief that physical sex holds more weight and deeper meaning than reproductive function. Gender apathy is so uncommon because it requires the human brain to halt processing the world in terms of masculine and feminine. The biggest challenge there is that gender exists in our languages, an extreme example being Romance languages where even inanimate objects are ascribed gender. It's difficult to change the way you think when the language your thoughts are in is gendered. That's the reason people care about pronouns. The language exists as it is, and the most you can do is use in in the way it's most comfortable for you. I agree, it would be easier if everyone used the same pronouns, but I wish you luck in challenging an entire language!
tl;dr: Your question is a paradox and so is the answer. It exists because people care and people care because it exists. In order for it to stop existing, the entirety of society has to believe in an alternative way of thinking and processing the world.

I think it would be nice if children were raised without a specific gender, until they decide.

i love the idea of that. i'm never going to have children of my own and will never be in the position to adopt, but if i was, i would raise the child as gender neutral as possible until they are able to decide what makes them the most comfortable

every day im so thankful my mom has always been an ally since before i was born. i never felt unsafe to come out as a nonbinary lesbian and its helped me realize this so early in life. im only 15 and ive been out for a few years thanks to my mom. shes super supportive and calls herself a mama bear lol. i just wish everyone could have a mom like her. i have now decided to become the parent of all gay children...well as soon as im 18 lol >:)

This is one of the best descriptions of transgender people I've ever heard! It explains both transitions from mtf ftm and transitioning to non-binary!
I feel like the two circles is a really messy and not helpful graph. I would instinctively prefer a cross-graph with the X axis being perceived -(m) to +(f), and the Y being identifying -(f) to +(m), you would then mark your gender as a shape (a line, triangle or square) of your birth gender, perceived gender and how you personally identifi giving you a rough blob of your overall gender identity. Maybe even put a clear marker specifically where you want to be in that blob as well.
the biggest trouble is that you can be one gender but dress or preform opposite gender roles. for example, masculine afabs (a female at birth). their gender is cis, but they are manly. I feel like a lot of people struggle with telling the difference between being masculine/feminine and their gender. cuz you can be enby and femme, enby and masc, male and femme, female and masc, ect. my cis mother says that she is masculine and has more masculine gender roles because she has always supported the family and done all the "male" jobs but she is still female. it is very important that we teach that. just because you are masculine doesn't make you a boy or vice versa. just because a little boy plays with pink dolls doesn't make him trans, maybe he is just gay and feminine.
Hey. I am also transgender and this helped a lot but is it ok or possible for some trans people to discover, question, and explore their gender a little late?
Of course that’s okay. Lots of great people I know explore their gender in their 80s because those around them didn’t accept them until they got educated recently. So you can explore your gender at any age.
Ofcourse, people even find out their gender at 70 or older!
Hey, fellow trans here. I didn't discover that I was trans until around 17 (almost 22 now). Though I guess there were signs (didn't realize because I was raised by people who didn't push the gender "norms" all that much), I never really went "I feel like a boy instead of a girl" until I became a teen. When I eventually brought up the feelings I had to a friend, they ended up telling me about the possibility of me being transgender and experiencing dysphoria.
So it is possible to discover or question if you're trans later on, rather straight into childhood, but a lot do discover themselves as trans pretty young, even if they don't know the word itself.

@@phantomhowlett9355 I realized when I was nonbinary when I was 18, almost 19. Then, a few months ago, I realized tht I'm trans. And just recently, I changed my name to a masc one; Eithan. I'll be 19.5 in 1 day.
some basic definitions for you guys! :D (Correct me on any if im wrong ^^
Masc: Masculine presenting.
Fem: Feminine presenting
Pronouns: What is used to refer to a person when not talking directly to that person (I.e: He/She/They/It/Ze/Ve etc) a person can use multiple! (I.e: He/they, They/it, She/He)
Neo's/Neo pronouns: Using an object, or item as a pronoun (I.e: Teddy/Teddyself, It/its, Ghost/Ghostself) (Example: Teddy went to the store to get us grapes, isn't Teddy just so nice? Gosh I love Teddyself.)
Cisgender: Identifies and is comfortable with this birth sex
Transgender: Gender is the opposite of their birth sex/ does not identify with birth sex(Spectrum)
Non-Binary: Not male or female, but not outside of the gender circle(Transgender spectrum)
Agender: No gender at all, but can choose to present masc or fem or use masc or fem pronouns.
Bigender: Two or more genders at one time.
Pangender: All genders(Except for agender) at once.
Demi-girl: Half female, half Male/NB/Agender/Etc
Demi-boy: Half male, half female/NB/Agender/Etc
Tri-gender: Three or more genders at one time.
Side note: Gender can be discovered at any time in your life! I didn't(And still dont) Fully have a label that fits (Going back and forth between NB and Agender) And you dont need to have dysphoria to be Transgender, you can be completely comfortable with your body and be trans! (This also means on/off dysphoria or dysphoria to certain bits only!) :D

you described pronouns in a sense, but pronouns are a lot more complicated then just he, she, it, they, etc.
i’m not english teacher so take this with a grain of salt, but there’s many different types of pronouns the ones you described are only one type (i believe). pronouns are also things like: my, we, us, you, mine, this, that, nobody, and more. in this i didn’t separate the different types of pronouns nor explain them so if you want more information you can research it yourself.

I wouldnt describe demigenders as "half that gender" but more "part that gender/not fully that gender" since not all demigender people feel like they are 50% of whatever gender (if that made any sense)

But I'll explain the basic ones.
In the binary you got the well known male and female. I personally am female.
But outside of this spectrum you got agender and genderfluid.
Agender is when you litterally do not identify to any gender what so ever.
And genderfluid is when you identify to multiple gender based on time or events, your gender with be constantly changing.
Since genderfluid is multiple at once, it would be too complicated to place it precisely in a spectrum like the conventional spectrums you know.
Than in between male and female you got the non binary spectrum.
With demi boy and demi girl being two of the multiple identities present in it. If you are curious about this, you can alwase ask the non binary community questions about the spectrum. Just make sure that your questions are not invasive and that they are respectful, as some subjects like physical appearance are a bit to touchy to touch upon.
Nonbinary can be between make and female but in other cases it can just be doing it's own thing giving a couple miles away.

I don't understand why people are so obsessed with putting people into boxes, personally I think the whole gender system should be eradicated. The best way to identify people is simply by not putting any labels on them and instead just look at that person as someone completely new. If someone with a penis wants to wear "girl clothes" sure let them why not, but that's just their style, why classify that style as a "girlish style". Anyways this video helped clarify a lot thank you!
While I do agree, I think labels should stick around. Some people feel more.comfortable with them. However back to what I agree with, I feel like no one should be conformed to a box and I feel like everyone needs to have an open mind. However, that being said, people shouldn't get offended by a preference (Like a preference towards male identifying people, or nb people)
@@ambie7437 I fully agree sexuality is not something anyone can control and should be respected no matter what they're into, I just don't agree that we should have genders at all. I think it'd be better if we have just sex and then people can evolve from there. Also I see what you mean by some people being more comfortable with a label, but stepping out of your comfort zone is a big part of growing as a person, I don't think being uncomfortable is always necessarily a bad thing.
I like being a girl but sometimes I want to have a masculine voice and wear a suit... But I'm still a girl... So this makes me feel happy.

Gender expression and gender identity can definitely be linked but are ultimately different things. I feel the same way often.
Sometimes I wonder to myself how someone feels like they fit a certain gender. I don't know if that says something about me, or if I'm missing something.
What it says about you is that you're probably cisgender. That feels totally natural and so there's no confusion. I'm cis myself but maybe I can tell you a little story.
When I was young and reaching puberty I started feeling attraction for men. I grew up in a family that never talked about homosexuality (it wasn't gay yet!) except that those people Aren't Normal, so it was confusing and upsetting. But here's the thing. I remember that I took comfort in realizing that in spite of not being attracted to girls, I was still male. Being cisgender and gay can have it's own kind of disphoria when you know your sexuality won't be accepted. But at least my basic identity was in line with my biology.
If someone felt attracted to men, but didn't feel attracted as a man, but that they should be a woman, it would be a transgender trait, although that's only one aspect. Imagine seeing yourself in a mirror and it's not you. That's partly how people know the gender they are.
I don't know if that helps, but my own realization that my gender was okay but I was gay helps me see how transgender works.

My view on it is that since I've only been inside my own head and haven't experienced being other genders, I can't compare and figure out what thoughts and feelings may be determining one's gender.
Fortunately it isn't a big issue for me not to know but more a matter of curiosity and interest in figuring out more about myself.
I'm gender apathetic, but alot of gender non conforming people are Non binary or don't go by a label, don't stress to find a label if you don't want one!
Hey! Hopefully this helps:
Imagine yourself in the body of the opposite sex. (If you’re male, imagine yourself in a female body. If you’re female, imagine yourself in a male body.) Or maybe imagine people referring to you with different pronouns. You’ll probably feel a sense of wrongness or even feel nauseated. It’s a horrible feeling, right? Imagine if that was a reality. Imagine feeling that way all the time.
This is exactly how transgender people feel(the condition is called gender dysphoria-you might know that already) and it can lead to depression and even suicide.
Now on to how people can “fit” a certain gender:
Whatever label relieves the person of this dysphoria or makes them feel the most comfortable is the label for them. There are many genders on the spectrum, but I will show you the most basic ones so you can understand this. Usually people feel like they are male or female, which are the first two basic genders here. But sometimes someone can feel uncomfortable with both these labels and may feel like they are in between male and female-let’s say this person we’re talking about is neutrois, or gender-neutral. Both the labels “male” and “female” makes this person uncomfortable, so they decide to go with another label in the middle of the two. Someone may feel like they don’t have a gender at all, which means they have no sense of their gender identity. This means they are agender; they don’t have a gender. Then the last basic gender identity I’d like to explain is aporagender. This one is rare. It means you have a gender identity that’s neither male nor female, but it’s not anywhere in between either. Basically, when someone is aporagender, it means they do have a gender identity, but they don’t feel comfortable being labeled as male, female, or anything in between.
These are the five most basic gender identities, and everything else is somewhere between these five points.
I used to be transphobic and it was mostly because I didn’t understand the discomfort with one’s body. (At the time I was bigender and didn’t know it.) I didn’t understand how other people could be uncomfortable, because I would have been fine being a boy, and I would have been fine being a girl. I didn’t realize that most people don’t feel this way. I was bigender; I was both a boy and a girl. Later when I became less transphobic and I understood the community more, I realized this label described me the best and it made me the most comfortable. Now I’m not bigender anymore and I understand the discomfort that some people feel, because I(someone who was born biologically female) feel uncomfortable imagining myself in a male body-this is because I know that I’m not male. My point is, even if you put my mind in a male body, I still know what I am-I still know I’m not a boy. So trans people know who they are even if their body doesn’t correspond with who they feel they are.

I am an adult male and so is my cousin, who's gay. When it comes to love and sex, I like women and he likes men. Nothing wrong with that. He's happy with being a man and so am I. I believe the overwhelming majority of those who feel they don't fit in either category has been influenced by a misguided level of tolerance and acceptance that will only make them into people that migrate from self-doubt to conflict when facing the world outside their bubble. Most people who seek help need more than sexual orientation. They need wise advice and affection. Your children, if you manage to have any, will laugh at your lack of common sense. Tolerance is one thing. Child abuse is another.

A hundred years ago or so the colours were the opposite. Blue for girls because it was soft and delicate. Pink for boys because it was a lighter shade of red and red is masculine. In addition to that the binary of just boy/girl is actually raciest. Many cultures have more then just two and dismissing all the others is dismissing part of the cultures, thus raciest.

By your logic, the entire spanish language would be racist because most words are gendered such as “la” “el” two forms of the english word “the” that are tailored to 2 genders. Just because Europe assumed a binary, doesn't mean everywhere else did. There are plenty of examples of cultures where there are more than 2 genders. 9:20 gender therapists have been renowned as being an unhealthy method to transition as the single instance of including someone else in the discussion makes it gate keeping and hard for someone to transition. This is why we tend to go towards informed consent clinics to get our hormones, as it's way faster and easier to do so, and it's more respectful, minus the misgendering in front of other ppl.

Liking pink, dolls and tea parties make me female? Why can't boys like tea parties or pink? I like both, I'm skinny and have long blond curvy hair. But this doesn't mean I'm a different "gender". This only means social norms are just large averages and you can behave differently if you like.

So whats the science behind non-binary? In an earlier video & in the sources you show that brains are associated with gender identity and not sex. However I'm struggling to find any source that talks about how non-binary brains are different from male/female brains or mentions any scientific backing to the existence of non-binary.

It's good to know that puberty blockers should only be taken for a couple of years, not as long as 5-6 years (as in the example with Larry), such a long treatment with puberty blockers can lead to osteoporosis, this is because both oestrogen and testosterone protect against osteoporosis.

I've lost count of how many times I've heard "He/she/they look weird when you do (insert body language)" or "-when you say (insert phrase usually unsaid by gender)". It really wouldn't surprise me if this were the case, given how we visually treat each others bodies sometimes
In regards to toys, when I was a kid, I played with dolls, and I also played with toy cars and trains. I am cisgender but just wanted to share. Also, you can be a gnc trans person or nonbinary person. If cis people can be gender nonconforming, then so can trans/nonbinary people.

Personally I feel like I am gender fluid or gender queer.
Bc some days I feel feminine, and some I feel masculine, and some I feel like I’m in between.
But sometimes it’s hard for me bc I’ve never felt the sort of depression over my body that I hear so much about.
For me it’s more like I wake up one morning and want to express myself in a more masculine way and I go “you know what, I feel masculine, let’s put on the one outfit I have that I like on my masculine days”
And honestly sometimes I feel like I’m a liar or something bc of this. Which can really be hurtful for me.
Then I have that one memory from my childhood when I thought “there’s no way there can only be man and woman, there must be people who are in between or none at all” I was like five years old and had never heard of lgbtq+
Then I get back some of my confidence bc I have a lot of those sort of memories. Also once I dressed up as a fairy warrior princess, and there’s a picture of that and it’s very much giving of gender neutral energy.
And I haven’t really come out to my parents yet, and I don’t have a binder (although I really want one) and I haven’t thought of any names for myself yet.
Edit: might be non-binary, and I’m currently looking around for a new name. I’m gonna ask my god father to help me :)

Quick correction on intersex: intersex people don’t have two complete separate sets of genitalia and/or reproductive tract, one male and one female. Instead they have one set of genitals and reproductive tract (just like non-intersex people) which has developed to have both male and female parts and/or ambiguous/in between parts. Very vague sum up there but check out places like Wikipedia and InterACT for a better understanding.

I currently identify as a demigirl, though this is incomplete, it was just the closest existing gender term I could find (after reading through over 500 non-binary genders, microgenders, xenogenders, etc.) for my actual gender. I was AFAB and I've always had feminine presentation, I use she/her pronouns, and I think most people have assumed that I'm cis. However, I've never felt comfortable being referred to, or perceived as, a woman, and I've always been extremely uncomfortable with all of the things associated with women, but not with girls. I've also always had masculine-shifted interested, abilities, and aptitudes. If they'd had puberty blockers when I was 10 in 1990, I would've been beginning for them. I absolutely dreaded developing secondary sex characteristics. I liked my agender body. I accept the body that I have now, as a vehicle that I inhabit. I don't want surgery to change it, because I'll never get back the body I used to have, but I do want to find the right gender identity term for me. I think that it's not possible that I'm the only person who feels this way. I have sometimes felt like Pippi Longstocking would be a fairly decent gender term for me, considering she did all of her 'adulting' while living in a child's body. I read the original in translation when I was 10 and I had never enjoyed reading a book so much in my life. I related to Pippi at a time when my body was only thinking about starting to change, and I could not hold onto that body no matter how much I expressed that I wanted to not develop, even carrying around a brick with me and putting it on my head in reference to, "You're growing like a weed, we better put a brick on your head!" All the adults just laughed. They didn't see it as the cry for help that it was. I'm OK with my body, I've accepted it as it is, but I am not OK with not having the right gender identity term. I hope perhaps you might steer me towards others who have had the same experience of gender. (This is especially difficult because of the predators who try to occupy spaces for children and claim it has to do with their identifying as little girls, etc. That's not me at all.) I wonder if I should call myself a demi-neuro-girl or something like that, because I'm Autistic and maybe my gender identity has something to do with that, but I really don't feel like that's the case, and even if it is, it's still incomplete, just as it was incomplete when I identified as demiromantic when that's not the complete picture (I'm demiromantic and recipromantic). I do believe that the ‘perceived’ and ‘actual’ titles on this chart need to be swapped. -In other words, the perceived is what an individual ‘perceives’ or imagines, after the actual is declared by what is presented at birth. (We are all born something specific that should not be denied)

There is information available online that proves that puberty blockers can cause long term health problems for humans. So describing parents who don’t want this for their kids as horribly as he does in this “lesson” is really not okay. You can love someone more than your own life and not want that for them. In fact there is also much warranted speculation on this topic that indicates mental and emotional health deficits in individuals who are seeking full physical transition.
Seeking mental health assistance is highly advised, and to prescribe puberty blockers before an age that one’s brain is even fully developed is extremely irresponsible of the medical community.

A clear and well put together presentation. More straightforward than most presentations on this topic. However, I don’t agree with some of the base definitions and that makes the entire argument flimsy to me. The way I understand it, these are my general definitions Sex is biological. Sex (male vs female) is determined by genes and named or ‘assigned’ at birth based on the presence of secondary sex characteristics (ie penis, vagina,etc). For the sake of this argument, we are going to ignore any intersex persons. Doctors do not assign gender at birth, they identify the sex of an individual. Gender ( man…woman…boy…girl…non-binary…etc) is entirely socially constructed. It is determined by the roles you fill in your environment and the way your society sees you. Sex is not gender, but the two are linked. Society will tend to place a person in a specific gender category and try to allocate them to certain gender roles based on the person’s sex. However, we are not obligated to stay in these roles or limit ourselves to these categories. Because gender is based on how society views a person, how we are viewed ultimately identifies what gender we are. The gender we feel ourselves to be is irrelevant. There is no ‘true’ gender. From this viewpoint, gender is a category placed on us by society. It is not an identity. It’s clear to me that many people feel strongly about what gender they should belong to and how they would like others to view them. It can certainly cause anxiety, frustration and dysphoria when the people around us do not see us in the same way we see ourselves. However, I don’t fundamentally understand why the gender labels matter so much.

Gender expression and identity are two different things!
Someone who likes pink and dolls would not by default have a female gender identity just because their expression is feminine. Gender identity isn't a social construct, gender expression is. Gender identity is a part of someone's brain, they're born that way - similar to sexuality.
So there is something observable in the brain that would show when someone is nonbinary? Or any of the 3572932 genders? Can we observe brains in caskets and see what their gender identity was? Source?

Genderfluid means that ur gender variates over time. So, yea. You could be genderfluid. Eventually, its up to you if you'd like to call urself that. It's okay to question these things :)

Well gender is it’s own spectrum. Gay is a sexuality not a gender. But for sexualities, we have 7 spectrums to describe our sexuality which we cover in other episodes. So really who we are is defined in 9 spectrums…perceived and actual gender, then 7 sexual orientation spectrums to define who we love.

It feels like the way you use the word, 'gender', is synonymous with how I would use the word, 'personality'. What would you say is the difference? and if there are millions of different gender identities, then is it even a useful concept anymore?
So what if there are a million genders? There are a million colours but we still have names for them. Colours are still a useful concept despite the fact there are a ridiculous amount of them.

I’ve been socially transitioned for a bit over a year now and have been questioning my gender since I was in primary school but only properly started realising I was non binary a few years ago and I know I want top surgery and have been on the wait list to see the gender identity clinic for ages but the wait is very long I still have no clue if I want to take testosterone because on one hand I want more of a male physique and deeper voice but I don’t want facial hair or a penis I feel like at the minute I’m kind of passing a lot of people look at me and can’t tell if I’m male or female but in my mind I still feel to feminine with my voice and body I want everyone to look at me and go are they male or female and genuinely have no clue what I am because for me that’s passing I love when peoples if I’m a boy or girl but I still feel like I get called she way more than they or he

So before i say anything, I am a Cis-gender heterosexual man. Meaning i was born a Phyiscal male and social intentifiy as a man, Im attracted to phyiscal females and prefer feminine traits although all humans are a collective of both masculine and feminine traits and im a avid believer in that. i notice in myself that i have on average more feminine traits (mentally and emotionally) then the average male although i mostly see myself as masculine.
Now i agree with everything stated here with some concerns of binding simply out of concern for compressing apart of their body for an extended period of time, until the 9:00 mark.
How in any way does medical treatment have to do with your own self being. for example hormone blockers. hormones are a natraul process in the human body and is a part of who you are, at that point wouldnt the person in question blocking their hormones be denying who they are and who they are becoming.
lets lets use this as an example for another point, people who take testosterone. Testosterone is not only affecting the physical appearance of the person and other actual phyical traits but can also effect the mind of the individual and make them think differently. at that point your mind has been altered by a 3rd party and you are no longer behaving how you would of before. a perfect example of this is puberty and why i cause such mental strife for some people.
Then their are physical sex change refered to as hard medical transition in this video. now before i make this next point i want to make it clear that i respeact the right to want to do anything with your body and i am not saying people shouldn't be allowed to do so, i believe if you literally just want a penis or vigina and or breast no other reason and you have the money and you can not force anyone to do the operation i say go stright for it.
Where my issue lies with is that a Physical transtions is not who you are, you are yourself including the parts you were born with and the idea that you are something that requires science to change who you are on a physical, emotion, mentally change who you are. that is no longer you but an ideal that your striving to be based on your surroundings.
If our gender is not determined by our sex why are we then coralating the 2 with a physical sex change. A physical sex change, IS NOT A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT. it is a physical modification.
to me it seems like people are forcing their own bodys to fit the gender that they identifiy with that way they can in someway meet society standards. medical transtions shouldnt be what you want it seems more as a compermise because society is not allowing you to be what you beleive you are so you force society to beleive by changing yourself to meet that standard. but in my mind this is counter productive and defeats the point of trying to be yourself. cultural transtions are what we need not medical ones.
