I worked with Jack for several years and had the privilege of performing some of the Legrand arrangements with him. I am a huge Legrand fan and we talked about the Legrand recording. Jack was very proud of having recorded the 1st USA album of exclusive Legrand material. I’ve worked with a number of wonderful singers but Jack is the only one who actually had me in tears onstage, which I was embarrassed about until I admitted it to the rest of the band and found out that they were in tears too! That’s a rare compliment from a bunch of old journeyman sidemen.
Many years ago Jack Jones CAME to England to Tour and In The City Of Sheffield where I was Born a Our First Nightclub HAD Opened CALLED The FIESTA. AND Jack Appeared There, i Obtained 4 TKTS and Me and My Husband Along with Two Friends went to see Him. We had a Table DOWN at the Front AND at the end of the Show, Jack GOT a Standing Ovation, i Held His ✋ as the Show ended, AND after all Those Years He is a Credit to His "Profession" Thank You Jack for Bringing Back a "Wonderful Memory" ❤❤❤❤ Angela Arnold Sheffield. England ❤
Jack Jones: singularly gifted, emotive, a voice that's mellifluous and soulful, totally and incredibly captivating then, now, and in the future. No other singer could hold a candle to his riveting interpretation of those immortal love songs. I'm just glad that youtube carries most of his TV and concert performances. Each one is a dazzling gem, no more no less. Bravo, Mr. Jones!
I am so glad they carry his concert performances. I love to watch him sing and his dramatic performances. I agree he has not been given the recognition that he so richly deserves. He is a classical performer besides being so versatile. He just has it all. All these years he has placed himself with the right orchestras and all kinds of accompanists!! Love him and always will. 🎶🎼🎵❤💋🎶🎼🎵
If anyone on this earth can sing and convey feelings with a song any better than Jack Jones can, I don't think he can be found!!!! Superb at his talent!! 🎵🎶🎼❤💋
There is nothing that Frank Sinatra could surpass Jack Jones with, because Jack has a talent all his own!! Jack has an ability to do so many different styles( operatic, popular, some of the rock music in the 70's etc) His voice can do so many different genres!!! Nobody has ever been able to do that! Some of yiu need to look at some of his work with an orchestra in the Netherlands doing George Gershwin and Michele Legrand's songs like WHAT ARE YOU DOING THE REST OF YOUR LIFE! On the George Gershwin performance he did BESS YOU IS MY WOMAN FROM PORGY AND BESS, and was phenominal!!!!!!! 🎼🎶🎵🎼🎶🎵 GREAT!!!!!!!!! 👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏So, I say you all need to seek out some of those performances! Oh, and the 1976 EDMONTON, ALBERTA CONCERT!!! HE IS VERY, VERY VERY FABULOUS!!!!! Thank You!!!!!
I have just recently looked into the recording’s of Scott Walker and the ‘Walker Brothers’ (they weren’t) beyond their hit’s … Take a listen to his ‘take’ on this sublime classic.
I couldn't agree more. I found a couple of his albums at a thrift store (Impossible Dream / My Kind of Town) and im stunned I hadn't heard of him before.
Hello , What a surprise this is.. I was involved in this recording in Hilversum.. We had many great artists in that time.. For me Jack Jones is and was one of the greatest... What a natural timing!!!!!
One of about 3 of my all-time favorites, Jack Jones truly had it during his heyday! Great vocal quality, good breath control and superb range. Hard to beat him on beautiful ballads (ala Sinatra, the greatest of balladeers) and Jack Jones stood the test of time also. He lost a bit in his later years, but wow, during the late 60's to about the '80's, he was so strong and we love his albums made during that era.!
Jack Jones, simply the best singer of this type of song of this last century. As Tina Turner said' Simply the Best ' &' Old Blue Eyes ' once remarked to Jack, 'Your the new Man' it doesn't come much better!!!.😊😊😊
You just can NOT beat the combination of Michel Legrand's music, Alan and Marilyn Bergman's lyrics, and Jack Jones singing, showng his great range and tone -- simply magnificent! Great orchestra also.
To me this is perfection. A beautifully delivered vocal performance by the great Jack Jones accompanied by a sublime orchestration that echoes every line of the wonderful Alan and Marilyn Bergman's lyric. They don't come any better than this.
I agree about the ultimate feeling and compliment for an artist to bring tears to your eyes! There's a lot of his songs that effect that way!! Will always love him!! ❤❤💋🎼🎵🎶🎼🎵🎶😪😪
This is the quintessential rendition of a brilliant song. NOBODY does it better. Period. And to think this perfection is live and not auto tuned or edited in a studio!
I cannot agree. Scott Walker's rendition is so moving, so emotional, and I believe he stayed true to the melodies and cadence and phrasing intended by Legrand, that Jones diverges from, distracting the listener from a man's proclamation of his love for one woman, and imploring her to be his. Regardless of who has sung our favorite version, we are lucky to have had so many great singers give us their versions and allow us this pleasurable choice, to decide whose we like best. I thank Mr. Legrand for his crowning achievement of a love ballad of the highest caliber. Please listen to Scott's version. I also feel Scott does the best version of "When Joanna Loved Me".
His interpretation and vocal ability on any of his songs over the years has been magical in every way!!!!!! ❤❤❤🎼🎵🎶💋💋 No one is as good as he is on anything!!! Bless him!! He has done so much to give musical enjoyment to all that love him. ❤🎶🎵🎼💗💗
Saw him in LA twice in the last year-Unbelievable! Jack was born too late but thank God he’s still at the top of his game-and still performing for us to revel in his talent.
Fabulous rendition. Slightly different but just as exciting as his recording that he made in 1972. I suspect that Jack Jones never rested on his laurels with his voice. He stretched and his range became quite incredible.
Absolutely stunning performance from I guess the mid 80s, My parents had the LP that had this track and the Barbra Streisand from round about the same time both stand out versions yet to be bettered (in my view), even though I was only 12 years old at the time didn't really appreciate the song and those performances until many years later.
Jack Jones Brings such LIFE~~To this song~~!!The way he sing this is with his Heart and Soul into the song~~~Jack FEELS every single word of this song, and it Shows!! I had the Privilege of seeing him sing several times, and they are the Most Memorable times of my life!!
Saw Jack Jones for the first time at Disney World ( Top of the World ) in the 70,s & then again a few years ago in Las Vegas A First Class entertainer with a Great Voice 🎶🎶🎶
I love his BEAUTIFUL SINGING and his graciousness in acknowledging the orchestra immediately after the song. I saw him perform (gorgeously) a few weeks ago, and he did this throughout the evening.
I just wish I had known about this wonderful and sweet song when my husband and I were married on September 19, 1981!! I would love to have had this sung at our wedding!! So beautiful!! ❤❤🎵🎶🎼💋👰
It's great music but greater still for the lyrics. You think the tune is good but without the message it wouldn't soar. Then you get the delivery from lungs like this and wow ! This is one spectacular piece.
jack is nothing short of great. one of the best voices of his time hitting all the octaves. michel le grande went on to perform until his recent death. you will know him for his music. a classical pianist/composer who devoted his talent to assignments given to carry movie scripts to fulfillment. look at what both performers did and you will see they deserve attention and will live long and strong.
A song that stops me in my tracks. Utterly classic, beautifully performed. One of my very favourites. Jones is amazing. His Legrand album is one of my all-time top ten recordings.
Of all the legendary singers, Jack Jones is my favorite. His songs.speak of how beautiful love is. So romantic and soothing to my ears and sift feeling in my ♥. Where is he now?
Michel Legrand asked Jack Jones to cut an album of his songs. Great backstory. My understanding is that Jack didn't feel he could do the songs justice at the time, so took voice lessons until he was ready. Jack Jones is now 80 years old, but was a masterful singer who took his talent seriously. He wanted to do justice to beautiful music. Sinatra once said Jones was the best singer in the country - and he was right. Edith Piaf gave Legrand his start in the music business. It all came together to create this album that I feel is Jack Jones' best. Two great artists - and it all started with Edith Piaf, who remains a French icon and legend forever.
I worked with Jack for several years and had the privilege of performing some of the Legrand arrangements with him. I am a huge Legrand fan and we talked about the Legrand recording. Jack was very proud of having recorded the 1st USA album of exclusive Legrand material. Love this story. The great years. All but gone now.
...and your tears are as you know an ultimate compliment to an artist. Good for you.
What a story! Such a brilliant vocalist! 👌🎶
I'm so glad we have recordings to play and enjoy now, in such a loveless world.
SO BEAUTIFUL TO HEAR TOM! Thanks Robbie Robinson THEN! AH!!!
Impeccable phrasing, tone and dynamics! The song is a difficult one. Jones is criminally underrated. Perfection.
Jack Jones has never been underrated, my dear. He's been around forever- he puts everything into every song that he sings!
This is a standard of vocal crooning not heard anymore.
Crying. That was my husbands and my wedding song. March 22 1980. He’s moved on from this life, but not my heart❤️😢
Many years ago Jack Jones CAME to England to Tour and In The City Of Sheffield where I was Born a Our First Nightclub HAD Opened CALLED The FIESTA. This song was sung at our wedding! Love the lyrics and the way Jack sang it. My husband and I will celebrate 45 years together in August. We
I ve always loved the words and music of this - Like Poetry!!!

Magnificent. This guy never received the appreciation he deserved. Love his tone and emotion❤️
Ah, just perfect, reminds me of my dad's love for my mum. Sadly both
Passed in 2020, just couldnt live live without her....
One of the most beautiful and technically accomplished voices in popular music. And Michel Legrand. Perfection.
Best rendition in the world of a classic composed by Michele LeGrand mid 1960's
Jack Jones phenomenal.
If anyone on this earth can sing and convey feelings with a song any better than Jack Jones can, I don't think he can be found!!!! Superb at his talent!! 🎵🎶🎼❤💋

Totally underrated singer. ..his pitch, range phrasing and depth , Is just not seen in today's so called performers..
Michael O'Callaghan
agree 100%
can you imagine a clown like cowell attempting to dissect this genius ?
I couldn't agree more. I found a couple of his albums at a thrift store (Impossible Dream / My Kind of Town) and im stunned I hadn't heard of him before.

Jack was my late mums favorite ❤
What a touching song. Made me feel melancholic.
There is no wonder he has always been known as A Singer's Singer. His technique is impeccable. Now that is a singer!
Jack Jones, simply the best singer of this type of song of this last century. As Tina Turner said' Simply the Best ' &' Old Blue Eyes ' once remarked to Jack, 'Your the new Man' it doesn't come much better!!!.😊😊😊
Soul like nothing I’ve heard in my 73 years, bliss at its very best.
Everything about this performance is just magical. Jack's voice and the orchestra are sublime. Thank you for posting.

IT IS A BEAUTIFUL SON
I thought so. That is why I selected it is my/our Wedding Song....

I've been listening to Jack Jones since the 1960's. I think he's GREAT!
If only all men had this kind of emotional depth. The whole world would be the greatest floating ball of life in the universe.
I loved, in the late 1960's, all his great hits too.
I love his BEAUTIFUL SINGING and his graciousness in acknowledging the orchestra immediately after the song. I saw him perform (gorgeously) a few weeks ago, and he did this throughout the evening.

I still cry. I'm proposing to the girl I love with this song.
He was always my favorite male singer, he had an amazing voice, charm, presentation and knew how to make any song his own!
