Certain Asian women out there who are more invested in condemning “Koreaboos” liking Asian men (a relatively new phenomena), than they are condemning white men denigrating Asian men (something that’s been going on for generations). Often it’s not even talked about, and those Asian women think that nobody else notices.

I agree man. When the attraction is rooted in racism and is problematic I think that's where it is harmful. I've seen examples of western men lusting after underanged Asian girls in third world countries, that is fetishization. But a girl liking an Asian guy because she reminds him of a leading man in a kdrama, where the harm in that? That's not at all different from girls liking guys because they remind them of their favorite musician or actor.

There was a very real stigma to finding Asian men attractive in the past. I literally was made fun of by friends and family. This was before any BTS member was even born. I’m glad that things now are more open for everyone and that Asian men are getting their shine. Specially the ones that do not conform to a Kpok look. If I were on a dating app I would definitely favor dating Asian guys for their entrepreneurship, focus on family, education, and other cultural values that are shared.

If it’s considered a fetish then i supposed i am guilty. I don’t know what happened that made attraction preference to be always labeled as fetish but whatever. I have dated Asian men since the 90s, i worked in a company that was majority Asian in Toronto and just found asian men to have more similar interests as me. I am also a half Polish and half German American and I am not attracted to men that look like the overly muscular blonde blue eyed male members of my family. I agree with your comment. People are attracted to who they are attracted to. A fetish implies some kind of sexual relationship where a person is treated as an object (something that historically has been seen as deviant behavior).
Nobody seems to think it's a fetish if someone likes to date a person with blonde hair and blue eyes but for some reason, it's seen as fetishized or "deviant" if someone has an attraction to non-white cultures.
As mentioned in the video, I hate the use of the word fetish.

Sounds like to me you just happen to find Asian men attractive which is not a fetish at all. For me at least, racial fetishization means liking a certain certain race or culture because of racist preconceived notion about said race. For example like how people like to date black men because they expect them to be well endowed and dominant in the bedroom, like how men expect Asian women to be submissive and docile, or Black women to be hypersexual, etc.. I don't think its fetishization just because you think Asian men are handsome.

The problem with the word fetish today is the same problem we have with the word woke and the word nazi. Are there actual nazis, woke, and people with fetishes on this planet?? Yes. Does the internet use these words in a colloquial way to mean something other than the root of those words? Yes. It’s just a heuristic way of either ending an argument when you have no argument that is salient, or you’re just diametrically opposed to the other viewpoint that these are the go to words to use to shut down the conversation or dehumanize your opposition. It gets tiring when everything becomes a fetish, which leaves no room to have a proper discussion on what are actually harmful fetishes. The other problem is that these ideas are complicated and drawing the boundaries are complicated where we often time have to overlap so many nuances that it becomes hard to define any line. We’re humans at the end of the day, and we’re going to like what we like, normally it would be amazing if everyone loves and respects one another for who we are and not how we look, but we’re just not that species.
But this isn’t to dismiss the harmful and toxic fetishes that exist for each race. Asian people especially are prone to being fetishize and I’m glad we’re talking about it more as Asian people traditionally are bad about talking about the macro social issues that we have to face. I’ve learned alot from many different Asian creators and podcast and books about the Asian experience, also I live the Asian American experience, and it’s cool to see people carve out a space to get out grievances out especially in a time were western cultural and social cohesion have become atomized.

I appreciate hearing the gender dynamic approach but in a lot of those examples you were talking about white folks fetishizing unknown white person. And oppression only really goes in one direction. So of course there's not "Hollywood fetish" cuz as David said "white people are the norm." If you like a white guy for his limp hair it's cuz you like limp hair not cuz you fetishize white ppls features. They were never stereotyped in America for that LOL😅
In the situation where white girl Becky is fetishizing a black man the black man can also gain some social currency and he may view that as more important than his own liberation. Cuz it's literally a way to survive!
As a mixed Black kid, I grew up around a lot of Filipino and Vietnamese people and I think my familiarity with the culture growing up meant that in my 20s I mostly dated Asian guys. Some older Asian ppl have prejudice towards Black ppl 2. It's icky in some ways cuz it's not a space FOR ME. I talked to my Asian girlfriend about my attraction and she kind of laughed and was like, "you like men than are basically portrayed as unlikable" (at the time)
And again oppression going in 1 direction is a HUGE part of this. If I was a Black MAN looking for Asian woman the dynamic is totally different. Thanks for reading if you do❤ Love your vids!

Fetishization isn't a bad thing. It's only a problem when you can't notice who's a fetishizer or not but that's on you. Besides people always have some sort of fetish whether it be height, facial features or whatever.

  • @jvines11
    @jvines11 10 месяцев назад

I think it comes down to knowledge, most of the people with a fetish seem to have a rose tainted glasses view of their subject, in the case of Asian women for example being having hyper femininity compared to actually knowing these women in real life. people will be attracted to who they want and the is not likely to change just make sure you are informed. people will talk regardless of what you may do anyways.

Don’t you think if a white guy that likes Asian girls and white girl that like Asian guys met that their mutual interest in Asian culture would attract them to each other as much as if the other were Asian? Is it more mutual interests in food, music, culture…

In my personal experience, I wouldn't say that non Asian women interested in me was fetish related. Long before K-pop took off all over the world, Asian men typically only had negative stereotypes associated with them.
I grew up in a location with majortiy White, then Latino, then Asian, then Black, then other. So, it only stands to reason, that the handfull of women who did express any kind of interest in me, ratio wise, were non Asian. Of course, the number of Asian women interested in me were far less, which makes sense, according to the available population numbers.
Although, there was that one time, I met a woman through a dating site & she had previously dated an Asian guy too. Anyhow, didn't really work out, when I discovered that the one original photo she used, was like 10 years old! Lol Once, I saw a current photo, I was like, she looked nothing like the person I was phyiscally interested in. ..... ...

the negative stereotype is made in western media like hollywood where asian men are portrayed as desexualized kungfu master and nerds.

Is it just me, that doesn't think Kpop is everything and NigaHiga and Fung Bros along other Asian American youtubers of early 2010's that put Asian men on the map? Cause I've been aware of Asians and their culture going back to American Best Dance Crew when it was on air and countless asian groups they had on.
Andrew, Ryan, and these dance crews and asian dancers and choreographers gave visibility to Asian men being perceived as attractive. I think since y'all are obsessed on this topic y'all need to start putting respect the visibility that asian youtubers brought during early 2010's

In my experience there are a few Western girls that do genuinely find Asian guys attractive. But it's really few. Most of them are just curious or they know that Asian guys tend to be good with money. But the Asian guy still needs some Western swagger. So I wouldn't call it a fetish for most Western women. They still ideally want the jawline, the height, the swag, the money, just the same as other dudes. The fetish thing pretty much breaks down when they are with Asian guys in person. Most Western women are xenophobic about Asian guys.

  • @Wagner-uv6yp

Let's face it, the phenomenon of women finding asian guys attractive is no different than growing up in a white society and finding white people attractive even if you're not white yourself. Yes there are people that take it too far when it comes to fetishizing their favorite K-pop or K-drama actors but the general of trend of finding asian guys attractive is a recent thing and that's why I think it makes some ppl uncomfortable.

I wouldnt necessarily what you said is exclusive to any particular race or culture. I’d say as people age then grow more conservative . And I guess the “genderr ole” of sumbmissive women is “ sociallyconservative” so yeah 27+ guys may prefer more docile and/or submissive women despite having different altaste in their younger years
