Patty-I like that you mentioned that they are lightfast. There seems to be an impression that they are not. I love this brand and have all of the sets. Your channel is the first channel I followed who uses Kuretake Gansai. Its a pleasure to see what you create with them. Thank you for sharing.

Kimrick on youtube has a lightfast test for these where you can see that a lot of colors are sadly not lightfast

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Patty. In my experience the paints have not shown any noticeable fading. However, I am aware that some sources argue that some of the paints in the 48 set do fade over time. The manufacturer also mentions that lightfastness is possible depending on how much water you dilute the paint with.
Doing some more research, I've found that all watercolor fades over time, but this can be significantly slowed by framing your artworks behind conservation glass and keeping them out of direct sunlight.
Also, thank you so kindly for your comment, Patty. I appreciate it.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, @pinkcloud3126
I completely get where you're coming from regarding the lightfastness of the watercolors. It's true that the manufacturer states that the colors are lightfast, but may fade depending on how much water you use to dilute them. You're right in that some independent tests and reviews suggest that some of the colors are not lightfast. Particularly, shades like reds, orange, pinks, and purples. Which seems to be the case for watercolors over all. From my side, I've been using these paints at home for a couple years now, and I've been lucky not to see any noticeable fading.
But you make a great point - lightfastness can indeed vary depending on factors like how much sunlight the paint is exposed to, and the specific hues used.
I really value your perspective on this, and I hope my experience adds a bit more insight to the discussion. Thanks again for bringing this up!

I discovered these paints a couple of years ago and invested in several of their collections. I’m especially interested in trying the collection of dark colors in some moody winter landscapes. You mentioned that it was possible to purchase the pans individually. I’ve never seen them sold individually. Would you please tell me where I can purchase individual pans.

Hi! Thnxx for sharing a comment. Yes! I have not yet purchased them individually, but I have not seen them in any of my local art shops is why. But if you want to, you can find many of the colors on Jet Pens online. That's where I plan to purchase my refills. Here's the link:
      www.jetpens.com/Kuretake-Gansai-Tambi-Watercolors-Single-Pans/ct/4089?pn=2
If you come across a better way to access the single pans differently, let us know. Good luck! x

These were my main watercolors for a good year or two but I stopped using them because at the time there were no pigment information and since some colors had the word “cadmium” in their name I didn’t know if I was using a genuine Cadmium or if it was just a hue. But recently I’m pretty sure they released their pigment information and turns out they were hues! I’m so happy to get back into them and while I’m sure I won’t like them the same way a did before since I transitioned into western watercolor brands I’m still so excited to use them again 😭 I’m like watching every RUclips video about these 😂

I would choose hues over cadmiums thinking they would be likely to be healthier and more environmentally friendly 😊

    • @Deedeedoodad

@NoelleFerneArtit really does depend on the pigment being used as a substitute. I believe a lot of brands are using pyrrols instead of cadmiums and Daniel smith (which is a respected and well loved brand) has started using only hues of those colors so I believe that goes to show how strong they are as contenders. Sure they’re not AS lightfast but they’re not horribly fugitive like lake pigments 😭 not to mention they’re more affordable & safe. If they weren’t toxic I’d always go for them but unfortunately that’s not the case 💔

I love the patterns you've made and the textures you were able to achieve. I also love the font you're using? Would you mind identifying it if you have time, please?

@kterade thank you so much for your comment! The paints are great when layering. I also used Gelly Roll by Sakura to create the patterns. O! Yes, the font is so fun. It's called TAN Nimbus. Take note of the capitalization. Thanks again!

I chased all over Tokyo to get that set (Sekeido in Shinjuku if anyone needs to know!) because they’re expensive in the uk and hard to find. I would have preferred the Art Nouveau set but they didn’t have that in stock. I do love them though!

    • @diazee
      @diazee  8 месяцев назад +1

O! Goodness, aren't they worth it? I actually was just thinking about the Art Nouveau set and checked my local art shop for them and they had it. (Catskill Art Supply, NY). I hope they become more available in the UK. Perhaps, you could ask your local art shop to order it? Thnxx for the comment, darling! & happy painting. xx
