Inspired by true events, New Regency’s and Film4’s “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie” is the film adaptation of the hit musical. Jamie New is 16 and doesn’t quite fit in-instead of pursuing a “real” career he dreams of becoming a drag queen. Uncertain about his future, Jamie knows one thing for sure: he is going to be a sensation. Supported by his loving mom and his amazing friends, Jamie overcomes prejudice, beats the bullies and steps out of the darkness, into the spotlight.
“Everybody’s Talking About Jamie” stars newcomer Max Harwood, Sarah Lancashire, Lauren Patel, Shobna Gulati, Ralph Ineson, Adeel Akhtar, Samuel Bottomley, with Sharon Horgan and Richard E. Grant. The stage production’s director, Jonathan Butterell, makes his feature-film debut as director, with screenplay and lyrics by Tom MacRae, songs by Dan Gillespie Sells and a score composed by Sells and Anne Dudley. Mark Herbert, p.g.a, Peter Carlton, p.g.a, and Arnon Milchan are producing with Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer, Natalie Lehmann, Daniel Battsek, Ollie Madden, Peter Balm, Niall Shamma, and Jes Wilkins serving as executive producers.

THIS is how you do a screen adaptation of a musical. It feels faithful to the source (let’s just say I’ve watched the staged version....a lot. enough times to recognize that there were so many direct quotes!!! I love it!!! So many of my favorite things about this show!!! They kept them!!!) But yet it still feels... well, new! In my opinion the biggest mistake films like this make is trying to just plop a live production onto a movie set. These guys have built a world for these characters, and it looks INCREDIBLE. I mean you can just tell the visuals are gonna be amazing. And from what I can tell the songs sound great!!!

Watched Jamie in the West end I loved it it made me laugh and cry, this looks great but I only hope they keep the original songs.

I dont quite get the idea of "coming out", feels like this term is just another mark toward seperating the world into many colors that each itself stand alone, while in fact, the world is a synphony of colors that blended in together. I know till this day, this term has its first stoned mission of making human recognizes the existence of different colors inside the symphony, but imagine a time where people no longer needs to come out, and that term disappeared completely, remained nothing more than just a tiny mark in history. I guess when that day come, we will no longer want to ask "its a boy or girl?" to a person whos about to become parent.

I know everyone's talking about the musical being amazing and super emotional which is great but I remember tearing up at the actual documentary made on Jamie, it was so incredible. He's come so far!

The film is bad. It's really bad. The stage show is so good, and the film is terrible. Slow (sooooo slow) and the singing is unsupported breathy auto tune. Extreme disappointment, especially after this trailer makes the film look AMAZING.

I see a lot of opinions below in the comments section about being/not being a drag queen is a bad/good thing or whatnot.
Honestly, life is just too short to be opined upon or judged for the way you spend it. If you've genuinely figured out what gives you happiness, go and pursue it! Not a lot of good people get that chance under the veils of restrictions through maybe political turmoil and/or other restrictions which bind the human tendency to explore and help people figure their true selves out.
Yes, it does matter to every child deep inside what their parents think. If you don't want to support your child because of what you think about some particular things, then it's fine. But at least don't discourage them! Not supporting and discouraging are two very different things. If you don't support them for their career choices, but your kids know you're there whenever they need you, then it's fine. They can move on. But if you discourage them by saying things like what just happened in that trailer, you might not know what an amazing opportunity your child must've missed upon to find their true self if they were discouraged badly.
no joke, this trailer was the first I'd heard about Jamie. I had NO idea what this was, but the trailer's so stunningly amazing that me and my friend immediately watched the show and fell in love.

This movie doesn't force LGBT agenda or empowerment. It just show the reality, struggle, bravery from social pressure to become one. 10/10 I'm gonna watch this.

2021 is gonna be full of diverse musicals that represent underrepresented groups. In The Heights representing Latinos & immigrants. West Side Story also representing Latinos & immigrants & now Everybody’s Talking About Jamie representing the LGTBQ community as well as Drag Queens. I’m so excited to see these so diverse powerful musicals with a great purpose!

West Side Story the original movie had a balanced ensemble cast this new version is more diverse & focuses more on the immigrants & Latinos. Drag Queens are not child strippers most drag queens start around their late teens or when they turn 21. There is a major difference between a Drag Queen & a stripper. Drag Queens do drag because it’s their passion & they love doing drag. Strippers do it to get money to provide for their families or themselves cause they hustlers. *Drops Mic* 🎤

Dude! I legit teared up at the part where Jamie asks his mom if she ever wished he was normal and she says no. It was similar to when I was having a mental crisis and I asked my mom if she would have rather had a normal, popular daughter and she said she just wants me to be happy in life.

2021 is gonna be the major comeback of musicals! This, In The Heights & West Side Story all look phenomenal! We so love diverse musical movies with powerful messages!
I thought they'd be talking about how blonde his hair is and not that he's a drag queen. Because that's boy's hair is WHITE.
I lovED playing with makeup and doing drag, and that scene reminds me of all the disappointment I saw in my dad's face. I just gave up. Now I really hope that with this film coming up, more of us can have the courage to hold on to that passion while others can be understanding, accepting, and supportive.
I first heard about a 2020 musical in South Korea called Jamie and now seeing this trailer I realized this is a film adaptation of a 2017 musical, which is inspired by a 2011 documentary. All these connections! This looks amazing and I'm so going to watching this.

Just came on Prime and it was so good! So uplifting and inspiring! The song where they sing a bit about Freddie Mercury and the AIDS epidemic had me in tears. The part w/the dad is devastating. But it this is done so well! 💕

I'm nervous because part of the reason I love the stage musical so much is because of its original cast (John McCrea, Josie Walker, Lucie Shorthouse, Shobna Gulati, and Phil Nichol). Not seeing any of them here makes me kind of sad, but this new cast for the movie seems very talented too, and I'm excited to see how they bring the roles to life in their own way. 💙
EDIT: I was made aware that Shobna IS playing Ray in this movie...yay! 😁 And that John is in the movie as well, but as young Loco Chanelle.

One of my biggest dreams is to watch a live performance of a musical like this that gets performed at the West End but as a person with Tourette’s Syndrome I can’t even sit in a cinema to watch a movie. I would love to be a performer that does live shows on stage as well but I don’t think it will ever be possible if my disability doesn’t disappear (which there is hope that it will)

I came across this musical back in june (both the soundtrack and the show itself) the same day I came out to my mom as genderfluid (that didnt go well) seeing this show made me so happy and feel so valid at the same time....
I love how faithful this looks it makes my heart and soul so happy

I know this musical was/is big in the UK and i feel when the movie eventually comes out, it will be a hit here in the states! Not sure what disney is waiting for.
A lot of musical movie competition this year. In the Heights, Dear Evan Hansen, and West Side Story are all this year and in very popular release months already.
Yes, I love the hijabi friend here - I feel that it's a realistic depiction as I know loads of Muslim girls who are feminists, pro-LGBT rights and loves a good drag show! (Also many of them love BTS)
Yes I know Islamic woman and boys might not be feminist or men's rights but they are not dumb, and feminist muslims are much more better then regular feminist
Islam does not endorse these labels nor do practicing Muslims. At max Muslims can be tolerant of these behaviours and actions when not concerning their own but straight out supporting it is quite against the doctrine.
