    The Imperium of Man combined with the Bene Geserit and Spacing Guild was actually quite efficient as a ruling body. Muad'Dib, the Fremen Jihad, the God Emperor, etc. may have changed who was in charge of this structure but they didn’t dare try to change the structure itself. In fact a better systen wasn't even discussed.

    • @michaelodonnell824
      @michaelodonnell824 8 месяцев назад

      @@rogerchavez2531 Personally, I believe that the heirlessness of House Corrino is a key driver of the action in the Dune universe.
      Consider, this is a ruling family that has lasted 10,000 years. For the first time, in Human Galactic Imperial history, it is going to be replaced.
      Why does Duke Leto not marry Jessica? - because he hopes to marry an Imperial daughter.
      Why is Baron Harkonnen unmarried? Because he has similar hopes. Moreover, the unattached state of Feyd Rautha is probably rooted in the same scenario.
      And why has this scenario come about? Because the Bene Gesserit want it. They instructed the Imperial Consort(s) to only bear daughters.
      So doing a background to the Dune universe and not mentioning the fragile state of Imperial succession or the Bene Gesserit, is seriously problematic....

    Where it all falls apart is the idea that so many planets just coincidentally have the same gravity, atmosphere/oxygen ratio and the protection from radiation as does Earth. Even with a hypothetical ability to 'terraform' to that standard (which is not mentioned in the canon) it is so magnificently unlikely as to be absurd.

    • @Wakuraya42-q8n
      @Wakuraya42-q8n 25 дней назад

      I mean, in real life, we have already found countless planets that are in the "Goldilocks Zone" where on theory they should be able to harbour life. For example planets in the Keplar star system. So it makes perfect sense that in fictional reality where humans not only posses the technology to travel to hundreds of far distant planets with no effort, but they also possess magical space-cocaine that can give them the ability to navigate through space by giving them premonitions, that those humans would now be able to find planets that can comfortably be inhabited by humans

  • @Emanon...

    I cannot fathom how, after 10.000 years, there's still only a handful of Corrinos, Atreides and Harkonnens in their ruling families. The entire Atreides family line were 3 people?
    Even royal families that were almost eradicated 500 years ago in Europe still have descendants that would be heirs to their respective titles.

    • @cteal2018
      @cteal2018 7 месяцев назад

      Remember, the Bene gesserit can choose the sex of their child and were playing with bloodlines...in short, it was either an accident or part of the plan.

    • @NATIK001
      @NATIK001 6 месяцев назад

      Intentionally keeping the family small by ejecting anyone not in the main branch is an option. If the law of the Imperium states that only those recognized to be of that house can inherit from it, then it doesn't matter how many descendants there are, only which ones legally exist.
      Remember, Paul and Feyd Rautha are cousins, and both have Harkonnen blood, in fact Vladimir Harkonnen is Paul's grandfather, yet Paul is not the heir to the House Harkonnen with Vladimir Harkonnen naming his nephews Feyd Rautha and Rabban as his heirs. Even after all apparent heirs of House Harkonnen are killed, the House is not considered merged into House Atreides or inherited by it, despite House Atreides' head being of Harkonnen blood and direct descent of its last living heir.
      House Atreides do claim Giedi Prime, but it is done not through bloodlines but as conquest and to cleanse the planet of Harkonnen influence.
      Count Fenring is also mentioned to be the cousin of Emperor Shaddam IV, yet he is not a member of House Corrino directly but instead by all accounts is head of his own minor noble family, with no credit as a Corrino being given to him.
      In short it seems Frank Herbert intended for all noble dynasties to exclusively be the current head of the dynasty and their immediate family, everyone else lose claim to the titles of the house.
      EDIT: In addition we see that blood matters less than legal status over and over again with mistresses producing kids that would be bastards under traditional rules, but in Dune they are of the House as long as the head of the House deems them so. We see this with Paul, Chani and Irulan, we see it with Leto I and Jessica, and we even see it with Ghanima and Farad'n after Children of Dune.

    I can see all this working on a galactic scale, but not universal. You are talking about billions of years in light distance. So even though Giuld navigators can fold space, they cant escape the vast oceans of time one would have to hurdle to travel to other galaxies. It doesnt make sense on a relativist scale. But then again, Herbert was basically an ecologist, and Dune is a thought experiment on terraforming a desert planet. Im not sure he really thought about relativity that hard, but Im not sure.

      It’s the imperium of the known universe. At most however it’s just our Milkeway Way Galaxy. The space folding technology is done through the fictional holtzman* effect which is the same effect that shields, anti gravity suspension and faster than light speed satellite communications use. Since they’re moving massively faster than light (the books describe it as instantaneous) things such as time and distance become a non factor. Also the feudal system is perfect for such interstellar societies since a centralized government can’t be everywhere at once with such distances of resources

    • @NeovanGoth
      @NeovanGoth 8 месяцев назад +1

      I like the term that is used in the 1984 movie: "Traveling without moving".
      Relativity does not allow to move through space faster than light, but it does not prohibit shorter paths, for example by compressing space using a warp drive, or folding it to create a wormhole.
