Respect to him for going out there and making the climb (yes with wires, but he’s still out there). Not only does it make the sequence look so much better than CGI, it’s probably less expensive than CGI, so he’s keeping the budget down!
I guess the ensurance itself costs way more than CGI.
The more he saves the budget, the more he pockets. Dude made 100 mil for the latest top gun... Juz imagine. He made 1/10th of a Billion with just one movie

I got to see this movie in full-blown real-deal IMAX back in 2011 and when Tom looks down from the Burj Khalifa, you really felt how high the building was and it if you had a fear of heights, this sequence sealed the deal. It's a shame that the IMAX-version of this flick never got released on Blu-Ray or 4K.

tbh if it was on dvd or streaming it would lower the appeal of going to the theater for me
There’s still no replacement for a real IMAX film projection. I’ve only ever seen one IMAX film projection and that was Interstellar. The digital fake IMAX projections (most IMAX theaters) aren’t even close in quality. The imagine quality on my phone is better than fake IMAX. Actually, I have never seen a more incredible image since in any digital format. Seeing this on IMAX film was probably mind-blowing.
Unfortunately not including the IMAX format in the Blu-Ray release was the director Brad Bird's decision :/

@@jasiriboards Re-watching it right now with my acrophobia and my palms and feet are sweaty as hell. My butt is clenched and my heat is beating out of my chest. I can't imagine how Tom was able to do this stunt even with wires.

One thing I love about MI4 was that all the gadgets couldn't deliver their full expectation, because they were so advance from the lab they weren't tested to be fully capable.

That actually makes the scenes so much more tense and exciting and makes these crazy gadgets way more believable. It's a great thing

SPOIILER ALERT: Without going into detail, Dead Reckoning takes elements from each of the six prior movies. And I'd say that what you just said is Ghost Protocol's contribution
After this scene I became a huge fan of Tom Cruise and Mission Impossible Franchise. World's biggest superstar on world' tallest building. goosebumps everytime.
I remember my dad and I saw this in IMAX and the entire audience was dead silent during this scene, you could hear a pin drop. Until 4:03 the entire theater gasped and screamed!
Best part is when Benji comes back and talks about how hard changing the numbers on the door was while the 3 of them are sitting on the floor still gathering themselves.
This scene just blew me away when I first saw it. Tom Cruise is absolutely amazing!

I remember watching Alex Honnold analysed this scene in a GQ video. He said the method Tom Cruise used to climb in the scene was very reasonable, as Alex himself adopted the same method when he climbed this building lmao

This stunt is still my favorite, because it was the first big one he did, and also because there's a lot of grace in the australian rappel and the take-off jump from the side of the building.

I watched this movie as a kid and this scene made an unforgettable impression on me.
For my dad and I, this is one of the most uncomfortable scenes to watch in the entire Mission: Impossible film series. In fact, my dad has acrophobia. Just the thought of what Ethan Hunt is doing here makes our hearts pound and puts us on the edge of our seats. But the fact that Ethan Hunt risked his life to get up higher is incredible.
My dad says you can't pay him enough to climb the Burj Khalifa, or do a motorcycle jump off a cliff like Ethan Hunt did in M:I-7 (2023).
Ten out of ten!I nearly wet myself when the right hand glove failed but,cheered like mad when he ran down the side of the tower!
I never missed nor going to miss another Tom cruise movie ever.

Not sure if anyone else saw but in 2:47 the blue LEDs on the left glove kinda goes up and down a bit (displaying how much of the surface of your hand is in contact of the window) when Ethan was holding on by like the finger tips. Pretty cool detail.

This is the reason that I wanted to go to the top of the Burj Khalifa when I visited Dubai, UAE. I am so glad that I did. That building is awesome. This time in 2016 I was in Dubai. I really, really want to go back.
Though “Fallout” is my favorite M:I movie, this scene from “Ghost Protocol” is the best one in the entire franchise.
10/10... I do not know why I watched this again, because this scene gives me vertigo even thru a television... and more than likely when I sleep, ill be on a verge of falling from a tall building, again.

It's good that everybody inside the rooms were looking the other way. Certainly nobody inside paying attention to the sand storm that would see him climbing the glass. No tourists on the ground looking up at the building with their fancy cameras wondering what that black dot is.
Building is mostly empty, no one in the rooms....just like in real life. It's a White Elephant
