Honestly, jesus christ. You can tell they looked at the Original Beast XCOM:EU&EW, this is crazy. I'm literally too hyped, the mods are gonna make this even more insanely amazing. Sigh.. 5 days.
It isn't entirely new game but without new game price. It's just some new content and some old content reworked a bit for almost the price of new game. Long War mod is more of the new game with how much it changes than this expansion.
@@mariqnpetkov1714 the way xcom2's single roll system works, if a shot has higher crit rate than to hit, and it hits, it will automatically crit. So if you have a 10% hit rate and an 11% crit rate, and you roll the 90 to hit, you've also rolled over the 89 required to crit. Mathematically, this system is dumb, but it only shows its flaws when crit rate is higher than hit, which is quite rare to set up.
Eugene Quek here's how I see it "Xcom hmm, I could say 3 but people LOVE xcom 2, so instead of risking a sequel with new engine and design etc, lets basically add a whole new story element to xcom 2!" Sounds great either way? And btw this isn't a complaint I would prefer it this way, I get to keep my characters 😊
Back in my day we called that Expansions. Companies actualy released complete games without butchering it to get every nickel and dime with DLCs.Then when they had a good idea to expand on the game after it's release they released these expansions for 20-30$ and most of the time they were worth the money.
and now im going to play a game where i name EVERY SOLDIER A SILLY PONY NAME hello sergeant Sunset Prancer, lets take pictures with your bond friend captain Twisty Manes oh this will be hilarious, watching silly named soldiers die and the survivors mourn Dr Whooves who tragically got beaten to death by a berserker
Thing is I've heard this stuff was actualy supposed to be used for Xcom 3 but they decided to make a DLC out of it. While that might sound like a boast, with this much stuff, whole new interfaces and base game edits, I'd believe it.

The posters can also appear in your ship- for instance, during a gameplay interview, I saw one of the posters of bonded soldiers pop up in the bar afterwards. The main bit is the buddy system and the buff/debuff system he makes mention of. It's a huge part of VC; certain soldiers may not get on with certain other soldiers/races/genders and it'll affect their combat performance, and they'll have friendships with certain other soldiers that allow them to perform a special attack together. The buff/debuff system ("a character might develop a fear of mutons, for example") is also very similar; a character in VC may have a fear or hatred of a specific class or hostile soldier and it'll affect their combat ability when dealing with that specific class (attack strength lowered if they fear, increased if they hate them). Solomon has very clearly been inspired by these VC systems, but so long as they're well implemented they will lend themselves well to XC2.
Considering that Enemy Unknown's action camera was apparently inspired by Valkyria Chronicles according to him, he should definitely know of it. And yes, some of the new features like the simultaneous bondmate shooting looks to be inspired by that game.

From what I remember from Valkyria Chronicles it was that the buddy system and buff/debuff was set by default from when I played the game. It seems more like the buddy System from Fire Emblem where it developes over time based on who you basically ship. I've only seem the a similar debuff/buff system like this from darkest dungeon too but who knows because inspiration can be drawn from multiple sources.
You know, they could make multiplayer interesting if they added a sort of 'invasion' multiplayer mode where players can play as a alien and invade a player's map, controlling preset mobs. man should get on long war 2 1.3-1.4 so much better than the previous versions. if only because stealthing with 1-2 man is not the really viable also just love being able to send 3-5 man squads instead of either 1-2 stealth man or 8-12 man squads with no in between like it was in 1.0-1.2
One thing I'm excited for is that this expansion will tone down the alien rulers. When ever I encounter them I lose a few of my soldier while the survivors will require more than 14 days to recover. Planning on using the Skirmisher to troll the alien rulers. Let's see how they like it!!!
+Shadow82 They're pretty easy after getting magnetic or plasma, but that's on commander though. Still my biggest issue with them was that they almost every single time appeared on timed missions or retaliation in the worst moment. I'm playing legend now and I don't plan to see them before I get plasma...
I found the avatars easy if you have the squad spread out with overwatch. As long as the squads aim stats are good enough, then you keep clipping them each time they teleport
You missed the new OP feature - trough the Cover Operation you may increase permanently the base stats of your units. For example - on my fav Ranger I have dodge 65 and move: 16. Add to this right equipment like Wraith (+25 dodge, + 2 Move, grapple) she becomes almost invincible and can reach almost every unit when battle start. Add to that some of the unique weapons (like katana) and OMG ...
VaciliNikoMavich I'm glad they actually added longer timer options. Because some gamers like to just enjoy a game instead of substituting in game achievement for real life achievement like you sound like you do.
I love how you assume that is what I like to do. I know why the timers are in the game. You have to be aggressive and play the game, rather than taking your time too much. Its their attempt to tell you "Time is of the essence to beat this."
Sorry guys but I believe that not even me will survive this expansion with the Long war 2......but as a player I must at least try......in legendary ironman mode.......wish me fucking luck and may RNJesus stay by my side.
Excellent video, it must have taken so much effort to grab such detailed notes on the day and then convey them all so detailed like you've done. Much appreciated, can't wait for this!
I do like those turn timers, even though I am that guy that wants to move slowly. It forces you to make different decision than you might normally and shakes the game up. And it makes the missions that you get to take your time on a relief.
They added an option where you can adjust for easier time. Cause honestly, who sets explosives to go off when you have a freaking pod right on top of it. Like, if I didn't even break conceal they'd still kill themselves. Pretty odd, But they fixed it in this DLC :DDD
Serious, thank you guys so much for actually laying all the details out. I got none of this from the trailer and now I'm actually excited for the new content.
This is the meatiest article/video about War of the Chosen. AND I LOVED IT! From what Chris described, this isn't an expansion: this is pretty much a new game we're getting. AWESOME!
Dude I was wondering what would be changed and added to the game with this expansion. Now that I know I am way way way more hyped for the release. Everything sounds incredible. I'm a huge fan of the X-COM series and I'm overjoyed with what it has become. I pre-ordered the dlc shortly after watching this video. Thank you for shedding light on what's happening when the expansion is released.
Oh God imagine you are in a huge fight with an bunch of aliens and then a horde of lost show up and suddenly both teams are like "Forget about them we need to SURVIVE!" and then both teams hunker down and just try to slow down the mass of zombies while also trying to sabotage the other. And then the like 3 people that survive duke it out at the end. That wold be amazing.
Have you seen that some of your characters faces can be placed onto holograms? I only found out earlier, its something pretty cool that you don't notice.
xXN0cturnXx that would be cool. I have the first one, it was a great game. That nemesis system was nice and refreshing; a cool innovation. That would be really great for this game actually.
Heard it kinda has, actually. Some traits of the Chosen are randomized in each playthrough, and they can gain new ones over time in a way that is apparently similar to the Nemesis system. Think I heard their name was randomized too, but I'm not sure.
Could do with Russian, Oriental e.g Chinese, and a middle eastern language adding, just for a bit of realism. EU had Russian, was disappointed to see that missing.
This is my favorite game series of all time. Although I have it for other systems, I pray one day it comes to the Nintendo Switch. XCOM fits perfectly for it.
15:16 I don't believe it. I have spent the last week learning to mod so that I can add Beta strike to the game (and double turn timers because it's necessary with Beta strike) and today I learn its coming as a second wave option. I'm excited and also a bit frustrated.
Turn timers were stupid and you know it. They force you to rush in a game about TACTICS, artificially creating a difficulty curve instead of making the game legitimately harder
The game was about small hit and run attacks before enemy reinforcements could arrive alot of the time. Also, on securing/ reaching an objective the turn timer disabled. It was an important and fun feature to me, getting some of my guys extracted just in time but having to leave a man behind. Know what I think? I think you're just bad at the game. I'd rather have turn timers than 0% miss chance Thin Men anyday.
Finished legendary ironman in XCOM EU/EW, Lonwar 1, XCOM 2, LongWar 2. I've beaten the original XCOM all the way to apogalypse on their hardest modes. Unfortunately for you I understand what actual difficulty is. Turn Timers were an artificial attempt to make the game challenging without actually making the AI any better or smarter, or creative for certain. The game is not hard, not by any means, once you understand the rush meta its the easiest XCOM I have ever played. Know what I think? You somehow thought that XCOM 2 was difficult with turn timers, especially if you have EVER had to leave a man behind. I've had longwar campaigns on classic ironman that I haven't even lost a single soldier. Git gud scrub.
part of me sorta wants a seperate little horde mode to do almost a defense mission against the lost. like being able to setup a small outpost with some automated guns and have a squad of humans or aliens and see how many waves you can survive. I know it isnt the most original, but it might be somewhat fun in xcom
missed opportunity i found (from what i understand) is bonds only go one way. it would have been great is during a bad missions solders got stressed and began harassing >arguing> fighting with each other as mistakes ECT were made. hurting the overall relationship and making them more likely to fight/ get distracted during fights.
I am kind of new to XCOM, XCOM 2 being the first actual one i bought, and i love the universe and this DLC looks to improve and make it even cooler! :)
My only question: have they fixed the bug where after a successful retreat the game screws up and declares someone safely headed home has been captured? I haven't had the heart to play since that happened to me.
Wow Eurogamer is great. Their videos are a perfect blend of comedic as well as informative. Stands tall against the likes of IGN and Gamespot etc. Keep it up!
a LOT of these 'new' features are basically mods that have been implemented into the game with modifications - so we know a lot of these mechanics from playing with them. The new stuff is cool though, I'm really excited for the factions (about time!). I'm really looking forward to seeing how the ending looks this time around and if we are going to get more than a slight teaser for XCOM 3!
The rulers were never a bad idea to begin with. The game gave you OP items to stun them and there's even a weapon attachment that instantly kills them. People just don't like the fact that they were never good at Xcom to begin with. Same people who complained about the timers.
Introducing a new system and then introducing a bunch of items to prevent that system from triggering is a solution looking for a problem as far as I'm concerned. Seems like Jake Solomon agrees.
Timers were created as a bandaid fix for the dominant overwatch spam strategy from XCOM:EW, and all they managed to accomplish was switching the dominant strategy to grenade/psi spam. TImers are a lateral move at best.
pyromancingking I'm fine with the timers, I just felt like the feature was overused in the game. Made it feel like the game was rushing me along to get to the end rather than letting me play at my own pace.
Reapers: sniper rifles, stealth, cloaks, edgy. Skirmishers: assault rifles, battle lords, heavy armour, blunt and to the point. Templars: psionics, sword and pistol combo, fancy clothing, mysterious. hmmm, anyone else seeing a bit of Destiny in XCOM? (not that its a bad thing)
I don't understand how people can complain about features like timers or the rulers. If you can't handle those just download any of the hundreds of mods available, steam workshop is just a tab away. Half of the value of Xcom 2 is due to the mods so if you dont take advantage of that you don't have the right to complain.
I agree with you fundamentally but there's two things you're not considering: People on console are trapped with whatever the devs choose to do, so one mechanic they don't like such as the turn timers could ruin the game for them. And then there's the fact that there's lots of assholes who shit on you for wanting more options to customize your difficulty. No matter how you want it. I personally like having the turn timer only start once I've broken concealment because it adds value to that mechanic, but I've been called a casual over it. Still, sounds like there might be some more options for people stuck on console with this release.
Could be neat if they also brought back a basic alien from the last x-com game who could appear in any mission, possibly later in the game if they are strong.
you forgot to say ....... Using grenades or big explosions causes the appearance of a large number of "lost" They are sensitive to the noise... fuc%$#g walkers:) nice guide good job man:D
I have a question, how does WOTC tie in to the regular campaign. I heard him mention something about how some content will not available in the regular campaign. is it a second campaign after the regular campaign? or is it all rolled into the regular campaign?

If one of the negative traits isn't a fear of Crysallids, then I'm refunding. Everyone should be scared shitless of them.
Lawgamer411 During the reveal they said that one of the negative traits that soldiers could acquire was being afraid of certain enemies, causing them to panick if they spotted one. Probably that includes chrysalids.
How do you live long enough to develop a fear of them? :D
Lawgamer411 in my game it's the commander that has that trait

Huh. Sounds like Jake Solomon has been playing a lot of Valkyria Chronicles. I'm OK with this.
could you please explain how because im a little bit confused on that
The main bit is the buddy system and the buff/debuff system he makes mention of. man should get on long war 2 1.3-1.4 so much better than the previous versions. if only because stealthing with 1-2 man is not the really viable also just love being able to send 3-5 man squads instead of either 1-2 stealth man or 8-12 man squads with no in between like it was in 1.0-1.2
So who else think that Chosen are gonna be OP as hell, making Avatars (who are supposed to be some Uber-Super-creatures) little bitches?
XCOM taking a few notes from darkest dungeon with the negative traits. I like it.
I cant wait for the "no fatigue" mod
hans Haperle You mean like the xry baby mod of disabling the timers?
That too. Two things i hate.
VaciliNikoMavich I'm glad they actually added longer timer options. Because some gamers like to just enjoy a game instead of substituting in game achievement for real life achievement like you sound like you do.
That is the reason you must love mods. Lets change what you dont like about the game to make it even better.
I love how you assume that is what I like to do.
I know why the timers are in the game. You have to be aggressive and play the game, rather than taking your time too much. Its their attempt to tell you "Time is of the essence to beat this."
Can I "bond" with a snek?
LeBronze James lmao just find a mod that allows you to have snek soldiers aaannndddd DONE
snek
I’m a slithering snel
Hope we get more customization options. 8>
So many new things and changes... They could have slapped on a fresh coat of paint and called it XCOM3!.
I would buy it
That's how we keep getting more MW games. :((
@@AdriansCorner MW?
one thing I would love is if there was a really cool mission u had u can record it and play it back in real time with everyone moving fluidly
Just started the video and it's already XCOM: Fire Emblem. Nice.
I better hurry up and complete the main game.
MrAaronw94 i'm in the same boat. Bought the game just two weeks ago!
Sorry guys but I believe that not even me will survive this expansion with the Long war 2......but as a player I must at least try......in legendary ironman mode.......wish me fucking luck and may RNJesus stay by my side.
Hey, Dino Crisis disc in the back. Dude is old-school :)
Dat FFVIII tho me gusta
Really dig the format of this video. Great example of how to do a list video properly.
Serious, thank you guys so much for actually laying all the details out. I got none of this from the trailer and now I'm actually excited for the new content.
With the AWC being divided into 3 seperate facilities, will the avenger be made bigger to accomodate the change?
This is the meatiest article/video about War of the Chosen. AND I LOVED IT!
From what Chris described, this isn't an expansion: this is pretty much a new game we're getting. AWESOME!
Now THIS is quality content from a dev. This reminds me of the expansion packs of years ago. Well done!!
Fuck yes! Heard from someone that they were done with XCOM, so glad more is coming, looks fucking amazing!
1:48 - "Bum mate " :)
You deserve 1mil subs!
Getting ufo aftershock vibes from this, and thats no bad thing
exactly my thought !
but does it have a nemesis system?
xXN0cturnXx like in the Lord of the rings game?
Yeah Shadow of Mordor / upcoming War. Just kidding but would be cool.
xXN0cturnXx that would be cool.
Think I heard their name was randomized too, but I'm not sure.
obsessive reload is a nightmare
Excellent video. Keep it up!
Did Jake say if they're adding more soldier voicepacks?
Jacob Byers no
Well I sure hope they do
Could do with Russian, Oriental e.g Chinese, and a middle eastern language adding, just for a bit of realism. EU had Russian, was disappointed to see that missing.
Ross B2 tbh I want to see More AUS accents and South African (Afrikaans and Zulu) English accents
With the voice actor strike having been going on for awhile, kinda hard to see any additional voices being added.
Will the final mission stop crashing whenever I load a save?
This is my favorite game series of all time. Although I have it for other systems, I pray one day it comes to the Nintendo Switch. XCOM fits perfectly for it.
Some dreams do come true! 1 more day!!
Augh, I'm looking forward to this so much. It sounds like it will add a ton of emergent narrative. And the photobooth sounds awesome.
15:16
I don't believe it. I have spent the last week learning to mod so that I can add Beta strike to the game (and double turn timers because it's necessary with Beta strike) and today I learn its coming as a second wave option. I'm excited and also a bit frustrated.
Bond Mechanics- Bringing more Smut to the XCOM franchise than ever before!
Turn timers were stupid and you know it. They force you to rush in a game about TACTICS, artificially creating a difficulty curve instead of making the game legitimately harder
ErgonomicChair
.......I got nothing to argue against that.
yea, that makes snipers less useful too, since you don't have time to set them up.
It's for that reason that i think Snipers are the worst class
Have they sorted out the loading screens for PS4? I played xcom2 to completion once as some of the load screens at the end too up to 45mins to load
My only question: have they fixed the bug where after a successful retreat the game screws up and declares someone safely headed home has been captured? I haven't had the heart to play since that happened to me.
This is how you make a game! Boom yes love xcom 2
So much information!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video, it's concise yet informative. You've got yourself a new subscriber.
Stasis with psi ops and surrounding them with your entire team on overwatch.. best thing ever..
pyromancingking totally agree, bloody Casuals...
Some people just love to complain and not do shit about what they're complaining about. :(
I agree with you fundamentally but there's two things you're not considering: People on console are trapped with whatever the devs choose to do, so one mechanic they don't like such as the turn timers could ruin the game for them.
If they switch over (Advent) for the mission do they join you in the Avenger as a trooper? Or just for the mission?
Could be neat if they also brought back a basic alien from the last x-com game who could appear in any mission, possibly later in the game if they are strong.
Great video. Can you customize the size of your soldiers? In xcom they had big heavy looking guys and everyone looks skinny on xcom 2.
you forgot to say ....... Using grenades or big explosions causes the appearance of a large number of "lost" They are sensitive to the noise... fuc%$#g walkers:) nice guide good job man:D
Will you be able to create/customize faction heroes?
How long will it take for Long war to update compatibility for this expansion
still wish proper mec trooper return or xeno camping (like see what other side doing or play as second wave in xcom 1)
Hi. These performance enhancements... will they be on PS4 platform? And is this expansion also in PS4?
So XCOM is basically adding shiny pokemon into the game, except the pokemon are your troops.
Sick.
I'm pretty sure that you forgot to mention that the SPARK units will get a much needed buff to things like base accuracy.
There'll be plenty of stuff I've missed, I'm sur - this is just based on the interview I had at E3. -Chris
it'd make sense if a paniced soldier favors running towards a bondmate
i already see one op anti lost move: the oneshot kill perk + gunslinger "one hit at all enemys"
SHUT UP AND TAKE ALL MY MONEY LITERALLY ALL OF IT I'LL SELL MY CAR IF YOU GIMME THIS
I want a huge war mission were you can take a number around 20 soldiers
with this new bond mechanic, I can't wait for them to have the children of our solders come back from the future to help us fight in the past.
I have a question, how does WOTC tie in to the regular campaign. I heard him mention something about how some content will not available in the regular campaign. is it a second campaign after the regular campaign? or is it all rolled into the regular campaign?
What a great video. :D thanks for posting it! I'm so excited because I've taken my week vacation the week the expansion comes out. :D
PS are we going to get to see the full 1 hour convo with Jake Solomon? I love that guy
Looking fan-frickin'-tastic!! Great to hear the Second Wave options are being put back in. Really missed those.
