Love Betty Grable. She took sick shortly after this broadcast. She passed a year later on July 2,1973. Those damn cigarettes! A very underrated singer and dancer. She looked great though.
...An Oscar well deserved. Beautifully well written & played. It was the visual & the music that made the movie. Jennifer O'Neil did not have many lines, but it wasn't needed. Her beauty stole all the scenes she was in.
Unfortunately they hadn't yet worked out better seating. It's almost laughable that Michel Legrand had to "Pardon Moi" himself all the way from the back of the room!
Betty's three pack a day habit caught up with her she got sick right after this telecast. You can hear how raspy her voice is here. I do think the heavy smoking aged her a bit 55 year old women look a lot younger now most take better care of themselves.
+Twaddles McGee I dont think women looking older has anything to do with bad habits, their hairstyles were a lot more staid and the fashions, everyone in the past age looked older than their years
+bowler8 I think people in general take better care of themselves the hair etc does play a part but overall women in their 50s and 60s look better even without surgery...smoking especially as much as Betty did and from what I heard it was 3 packs a day does age your skin nicotine is really bad for your skin
He sure deserved it for a lovely, haunting theme. But I stopped watching the Oscars ages ago. It's no longer entertainment. It's a leftist political convention, where instead of honoring the best in various fields, it's a three hour show about inclusion, diversity, race, politics, mulitculturalism, abortion rights, race, gun confiscation, race, race, race, race, race, race, race, race. I haven't tuned in since 1971 and never will again.
Michel Legrand, such a great composer!!!
And he gave a lovely acceptance speech
Summer of '42 has great music score.

R.I.P Michel Legrand. Thank you for all your contributions to film.
Félicitations
Back when the Oscars had some credibility, class and dignity.
Unfortunately they hadn't yet worked out better seating. It's almost laughable that Michel Legrand had to "Pardon Moi" himself all the way from the back of the room!
One should note that all the soundtracks of that year were absolutely astonishing. Summer of '42 is a diamond among diamonds.
My favorite ever music composer especially when it comes to the cinema scores. Michel Legrand deserved even more Oscars, for Vivre Sa vie for sure...
That is an awesome score🙌👏🤙
Great song, score and composer! Merci Michel!
Excellent film, excellent music, excellent Jennifer O'Neil and all actors. One of my favourite which gives me tears of happiness and love.
Lovely to see Betty & Dick on this...they did a Fabulous Fordies special for NBC in 1971...thank you for posting this gem...
No doubt he deserved to win 🖤
Wife beater of the year?
Sammy Davis with his peace symbol necklace..."what a total gas" he was!💞
"Summer of 42" tune has stuck in my brain for a good 5 decades since the first hearing.
The Great Movie Star Betty Grable was beautiful and saucy and gorgeous all her life and sadly so young , but beautiful
When the Oscars were still the Oscars with real stars
That is great 👍 timeless music 🎶
RIP Michel Legrand
Betty Grable looks amazing...who would think that she would die a year later...aged 56
+bowler8 very sad 3 packs a day caught up with her you can tell her voice here is pretty scratchy due to it.
She doesn't look that good. Huge wrinkles for only 55...and that's with good lighting.
On July 2, 1973, Grable died of lung cancer at age 56 . On March 28, 1980, Haymes died from lung cancer at 61 years old.
@@DDumbrille your an idiot for saying ERRRRRR wrong she looked beautiful, a perfect 10 dumbass☝️👏👍💝🌹
@@DDumbrille She always had beautiful legs though. Her legs were insured for at least a million dollars.
A deserved win, although John Barry and Richard Rodney Bennett had superb scores that year. Always a difficult decision, but this one was great.
Yesssssssssssss! Thank you, Academy!
Magnifique ❤️❤️
Betty Grable died less than one year later. RIP
Two years later (1972-1973) and (1973-1974), Betty Grable passed away.
Deserved!
Un grande!!!
men wore dinner suits then, and designer suits now
Miss Betty Grable and her million dollar legs!
Alguien la puede subir completa en español latino. Gracias
Betty Grable died a year later😢
Un immense musicien disparu trop tôt

Dick Haymes was supposed to be a horrible person.
