Enjoyed the video, excellent quality (when RUclips allow 1080), but can anything be done about wind noise? I'm not a camera expert but 1080 wind is no better than 480 wind LOL. Someone must have an answer some where (hope it's not music).
Would be nice if this was a regular thing sadly GWR got ride of their 2+8 HST sets but if SWR did Waterloo to Plymouth like SWT used to they could make more money and it would be a handy and direct link not having to change at Exeter St David’s
When I go out for my train trips, I never see anyone videoing the trains like me, but I saw quite a few at Westbury. To be quite honest with you, I thought everyone would be really chummy since we were there for the same reason. I am very friendly by nature, and I smiled and said hello to these people, but each and everyone of them blanked me! I was so upset! Is this what happens normally?
Can I ask you what camera you used mate? I always film with my phone at the moment. ....it has full HD recording and the quality is crisp and superb.....but no optical zoom, just digital zoom.....so when I zoom in it blurs up and gets grainy . I am looking to buy a camcorder. Cheers
Do you know if Network rail still (if at all) uses the ex Eurostar platforms and lines at waterloo and out to HS1? (I know the connecting line at HS1 doesn't have 3rd rail to the junction)
AndreiTupolev that's correct, the platforms are ready they're just waiting for the services. You can view them from the main concourse, they've just got the gates shut. I work underneath them lol
Not High Speed 1, I am afraid. That is still technically possible, but it was ruled out on cost grounds once St Pancras re-opened. In terms of the platforms, Platforms 20, 21 and 22 are available to use, 23 and 24 are not. At the moment, Platform 20 at least is used at rush hour services. I went out to film the diversions on Good Friday, a day before rachaelmatt and I got the HST to Westbury, and towards the end of the day I went to Vauxhall to film HSTs passing through (which I did), and then I saw a Class 458/0 passing through Vauxhall on the old Eurostar track, presumably going to Platform 20, which was exciting! My dad actually filmed a Class 458/0 coming into Platform 20 a while back for me, I really should upload it some time... Class 373s cannot go out of High Speed 1 under it's own power any more, since they had their third rail shoes removed. Shame, I wish they would reconsider. It would be useful if they start running out of space at St Pancras to have a back-up plan at Waterloo. Ah well, I hope this helps!
it would be nice if gwr ran dusk trips for people like business men i mean travelling in style through london while you watch the metropolis of buildings around you like eurostar did which must of been why they chose london waterloo because they want a station in the middle of england capital with an impressive view of the city but they chose st pancras because it has a broad conection to the rest of england. No offense but its a bit better than london paddington
Would they have been driven by FGR or Southwest train drivers? Because I did not think FGR drivers would have been route trained on the Waterloo and Southern lines. Neither did I think Southwest train drivers would have been trained for HST operation.
ELPaso1990TX Would have been FGW drivers. But there's two of them in the cab during diverts a driver and someone else who knows the route better I'd imagine.
End of an era for these type of videos, no opportunity anymore for out the window views, even on the remaining 'castle' sets.
Nice speed...station skipping..good train traffic and scenery..Thanks for sharing
Riding in the vestibule is genius - get to see both sides!
A very enjoyable trip, THANKS MATT
Fantastic view Thank you !
Nice one my friend. Keep them coming... Many thanks....
You did a swell job recording for that length of time! Nice steady video.
Following the train accident in October 1999 that claimed about 30 lives, some FGW services were diverted to Euston.
21:20 Listen to that lovely jointed track!
In these situations who drives the trains SWT drivers who know the route or GWR drivers accompanied by SWT drivers ???
its EXTREMELY rare to be diverted there
Yes it is. But this way Reading station looks the way that it looks now. Otherwise the old station would be there still.
how do you keep a steady shot out the window when you're doing 100mph? because i can't manage it in a HST at 90!
When I did this in 2011 on the EMT HST's. I just rest my arm on the door and lean the camera out. Its less jerky for the film :).
A166 at Westbury? That's something of a novelty. Running a connecting shuttle to Reading, presumably.
AndreiTupolev Yes it was, just shuttling into Reading.

I never knew gwr trains went to London Waterloo
They didn’t it’s a diversion.
I was on that train in coach D

I went out a day before you! But to Westbury...
is it only 10 and a half minutes Waterloo to Wimbledon ?
Was that direct to Taunton? No stops?

unfrotanly sometimes yes but most of the ones i saw i met through youtube anyway
stranger danger
GWR HD I guess :)
i have noticed that at times
Why was it diverted from Waterloo?

Ryan Hatterer I think they're planning to once they've got the 458/5s in service and they can run 10 car suburban trains,
AndreiTupolev that's correct, the platforms are ready they're just waiting for the services. You can view them from the main concourse, they've just got the gates shut. I work underneath them lol
Okay, Thank you both for the information.

Sam Jones Okay, I knew the connecting line was still there but I wasn't sure if they still use it. Thanks again.
Is it because the electrification

Was that the Gatwick service passing at 6:08?
It was the Shatwick express.
so where did you leave 3rd rail land behind? you edited that bit out some of us are interested
chrisg1947 Shortly after leaving Basingstoke you cut off from the mainline and head towards Andover & Salisbury
3:10 you can see big ben in the distance
I saw it
I was sure that bloke was going to be an arse to that kid with the camera, but he just seemed to be enjoying a bit of banter with a colleague.
AndreiTupolev He was doing his security checks, they've got to go right to the end of the platform every so often.
at 3:40 I saw a new juniper

rachaelmatt Each diverted HST was driven by an FGW driver, piloted by drivers supplied by Freightliner :)
That's usual for a HST to be at London Waterloo
Its a race
You chose the wrong station fool!
iiiiiiii 10:00
