In fairness to Mitch and Auston, I think every single Canadian who has tried to draw a Canadian flag for whatever reason can relate to how oddly hard it is to draw a decent-looking maple leaf.

The current Leafs logo is a more detailed Maple Leaf than the flag or the old logo, and Matthews reflects that.
The Senators logo was the toughest to draw imo. The Flames to me was the easiest- just draw a capital C with flames coming out of it.
The ducks are also easy
