    I’m an American listening to a politician openly admit failures of his party and that he wants to leave his country in the best shape he can for the opposition when they take power. Astonishing.

      That’s how bad the rest of his party is. They replaced the worst PM we’ve ever had with someone even worse, perhaps that’s why they believe they can do the impossible on blind faith. People with no idea on how to generate wealth in the real world, over confident imbeciles gambling with our mortgages and pensions.

    • @Malisteen
      @Malisteen Год назад

      Nah, you're seeing a politician try to obscure the overwhelmingly negative response to his party's terrible policies by pretending that they're good policies that have just been failed by merely bad messaging, as though the same policies will be fine in the future under a future conservative government with a more competant charletan at its head.
      But it's the policies that are terrible, and the ideology behind them. The anti-worker, anti-public service, commons-raiding, pro-privitization, xenophobic, kleptocratic, far-right, hard-brexit, crushing austerity, dark-money-thinktank driven, trickle-down-the-pants brand of Conservative Thatcher/Reaganomics is the real problem.
      Now that they're stuck with a leader who doesn't even have enough charisma to lie herself out of a wet paper bag, not even the UK's right wing media industry can keep the con going. Not that I'm giving any credit to the British public for finally waking up. Partially because I'm not yet convinced this isn't just a blip on the radar, but mostly because a decade is already way too long to have fallen for this schtick.

    People who have worked hard for the things they have were carefully preparing for a possible recession and higher interest rates, paying down debts, saving as much as they could afford, re-mortgaging, paying into their pensions, trying to save on energy. Then Liz Truss and Kwateng came along with their nutcase plan that had not been put before the British people and blew things up. Middle England is angry and what's worse is that there has been no apology, a way out offered or even a sense that they understand the impact on people's lives. All we get is silly Truss pretending to be Thatcher with her "tough it out" talk.
