    1:48 “I like log” was funny. She’s so cute. It’s obviously NOT cute how damaged she was or what happened to this poor child, but her curiosity and thirst for learning after all that deprivation is inspiring. And yes. It’s cute.

    • @JustSomeGuyLV
      @JustSomeGuyLV Год назад +77

      Yes, i can understand it being cute seeing the child in her finally having opportunity to come out and to interact with others and to finally have opportunity to learn and to feel emotions, including happiness. But her story is very sad and very tragic. The supposedly rescuers and carers, after not knowing what to do with her, threw her back in mental asylum type ''care'' facility, where she rapidly regressed and, no doubt, felt again empty inside and probably even depressed. Her ''father'' was a horrible monster, but so were the people working for government institutions, the ones who were supposed to take care of this severely abused child. Story like hers is reminded to not always put faith into government institutions which, ''on paper'', work to help the ones who have been abused.

    I think the most incredible part about Genie's story is how despite being told she'll never understand or grasp language after the rescue, she eventually did grasp the concept of it & slowly learned how to loosely speak on top of learning sign language quite thoroughly. Or at least, enough to communicate her own thoughts. That alone is huge, because it displays a faint sense of identity or self. She behaves like an average 2 year old, yet has the emotional capacity of someone who is 8 or so years old when these were filmed. I can see why so many people wanted to research her at the time, admittedly. It just stinks they never thought about the long-term implications of her state. Otherwise they would have not only answered their big hypothesis, but also would have given this individual another chance at life with a support system that would have known how to properly take care of her & help her continue to improve.
    Thank you for being respectful to Mr and Mrs. Rigler's wishes and not releasing anymore videos. I'd like to imagine it's for the best that Genie's whereabouts + other more minute details stay a mystery as it's nobody's business to stick their nose into her life any further. Let the person live in peace.

    What a sweet girl. Despite the heartbreaking truth of her origin and where she ended up, it's good to see her happy for the time she spent in a better world. I wish that, in situations where people have disabilities or, in this case, developmental problems due to being deprived of essential social connection and exposed to horrific abuse, they were treated differently than how many are. I absolutely don't blame the scientists and caregivers, I know they meant no harm, but it breaks my heart a little when grown people are talked to like toddlers. Obviously, you have to have to meet them at their levels and capabilities, but I think it's important and healthy for them to be treated with the same respect and recognition as anyone else.

    This is the first time I’ve actually heard Genie’s voice.
    It’s fascinating to me that she sounds like a young ape, in terms of the pitch and breathiness of her voice. There’s also a notable looseness to her words, they’re so badly slurred because she doesn’t know how to move her mouth, tongue, lips, etc in the correct way and the muscles remain too lax.
    It really does seem like being feral essentially turned her into a more primal version of a human being, as if she somehow reverted back to being one of our distant ancestors.

If they didn't want her, why not give her up for adoption, so she can be loved and raised happily. Why just choose to tie her down to a potty 24/7, for her whole life with them. I think she was 13 when she was rescued and she was made to stay on that potty nearly ALL that time. She was never allowed out of her room, not spoken to, rarely fed and beaten if she did the smallest thing her parents considered wrong. I hope they rot in hell. As I am aware that tragic case of human isolation was continued by the USA authorities to conseal their crime in the first place - the fact that there was that tragic case of human isolation for years with no proper actions from the state officials to save this little girl from her horrific family. So, after years of relative freedom, a chance for development and the future, this little girl was closed in some specific institution with no hope for any further development, love and life actually by the state court decision and the state officials decision. Thus, the real criminal from the very beginning have always been the numerous state officials of the USA who resposible for the first - neglectance the child safety at the very beginning of her life, and then who ended her life by returning her into a prison like institution for the same kind of highly restricted existence as she experienced in the home of her parents.

      Part of the problem is they kept pushing her. She got to a point where she could be somewhat normal and they kept trying to make her speak proper grammar. We didn't understand the brain at the time and we now know she would never be able to do so. Her brain had not grown from not being stimulated as a child. Her language section of her brain was basically non existent. They kept trying to prove/disprove a theory (name I forget) that learning a language after a certain time was impossible.

We do not know if she’s even alive anymore because it’s all private. Even the people in these videos are not allowed the information. If she is alive she’d be 66. The last known report on her she seemed disinterested and all progress had been completely lost. It is quite tragic how even after being rescued she was taken away from the people who truly cared about her…

    • @artfull334
      @artfull334 Год назад +21

      @@Skewer-ratyou’re incorrect. Genie was not a feral child she had been extremely abused by her Father. He put Genie in a straight jacket age 2 and chained her to a potty seat in a dark room until her teens. She had no contact with anyone, only her Father who threw food in the room and he barked at her.
      Genie’s brain never developed because she had no interaction with other sane human beings. The scientists used her as a human guinea pig.
      They tried to educate her and they failed because her brain was not able to cope because it was underdeveloped and she went into regression. She ended up going crazy, with bizarre body language and head banging, it was cruel. They were filming her and using her for scientific research.
      Genie needed peace and quiet and her Mother eventually won access and Genie was moved to a residential home for adults with learning difficulties. She was happy living in the home away from all the crap she’d endured.

    So, she was kept in isolation for 13 years. Questions: how was she able to walk or move from being restrained all day / night? Wouldn’t her muscles have atrophy? Was she ever washed / cleaned up? Wouldn’t she have body sores? Not being allowed to eat solid food. Wouldn’t her teeth have been loose or rotted? Kept in a dark room. Wouldn’t the lack of light for 13 years cause blindness? As she reached her teens, she would’ve menstruated. Was she just left like that?

    • @MrXenon1994
      @MrXenon1994 11 месяцев назад +6

      Her period of isolation began at around 20 months old. The fact that she survived to see age 13 is a miracle in and of itself, but the fact that she did learn to walk and even run is even more impressive. Her muscles did suffer atrophy from lack of stimulation, so did her brain. When she was rescued, she had the bone age of an 11-year-old even though she was nearly 14. I don't believe she was washed or cleaned up during her isolation, but I could be wrong. Who knows. She did have body sores, for example when she was rescued there was a calloused ring of pendant flesh hanging around her buttocks where the hole of the potty seat had been. It was bruised black and took several weeks to heal. Her teeth were indeed fucked. When she was rescued she had two full sets of teeth as a result of her baby teeth never falling out. She was not blind, her eyesight was fine, but she could not focus her eyes on anything beyond 10 feet from her, because that was the size of the room she was kept in. And the menstruation likely did not occur until after she was rescued. Her mental and physical health and growth was stunted to the extent that it delayed her puberty.
