    All these men are very knowledgeable about their terrier dogs and breed only the best It's no wonder their dogs are supremely adapted for hunting foxes below ground .They are great to preserve the working terrier breed s 👏👏👏🇨🇮

    Now aged 60 I kept working Terriers since I was 10, being a Merthyr Man I know a few of those in the film, including David Jones right at the end, many years ago I visited David in Mid Wales to pick up two Fell Terriers from his friend John Cowan who was from Embleton in Cumbria who was down hunting with David, David who just so happens to be the Huntsman for the Lord David Davies Foxhounds, I purchased a Dog and a Bitch Pups in the early 1980s two black & Tan dogs, they turned out as hard as nails, not much barking with that pair, I don't work Terriers anymore although I do keep two very useful Bedlington Terriers Father and Son, both will hunt and catch most critters with fur and feather on.

    when I was a kid in West Yorkshire I asked my parents for a Lakeland terrier, they got me a terrier for my 13 birthday [ don't laugh] a Yorkie terrier but god he was a fiery bugger. I had to dig him out once.

    Another memory jerker. Dai Jones talking a lot of sense at the end. Unfortunately, far to many younger enthusiasts seemed to lose sight of that. The Sealyham shown had the same problem as the ones I bred, namely a coat that balled up really badly in wet earths. Quit coincidentally, I drove past Sealyham mansion early this morning. It is now an Adventure Centre. I noticed Gary Middleton in there too. I had my first Lakeland from him. Ron McCoy had a small patterdale bitch named Vandal from me in 1980. Dave Harcombe looking very happy in front of the cameras 😄

    • @mattgosling2657
      @mattgosling2657 4 года назад +2

      I used to have a border lakeland called vandal, good dog with a good nose. Sad how so many people think terrier men are all cruel and into badger baiting these days. When I was a teenager me and a couple of mates used to get up early and walk miles with our dogs, our reason for doing it mostly to get out and do something we enjoyed and to see our dogs do well. Killing something was the last reason we did it and I enjoyed it just as much if we returned having caught nothing, and then an afternoon in the pub together, really miss those times I do.

    I would have always thought Bedlington terriers to be too leggy to put to ground, no doubt they're good working dogs but wouldn't be my first choice for Foxes.

    • @nigelbase1196
      @nigelbase1196 4 года назад

      Matt....these were my two bedlingtons...despite their size I had many foxes with them and it was surprising where they actually could get up to their fox.
      As I say in the video these two were simply outstanding on top and in cover and would hunt a fox like a hound...for me they were outstanding for "my needs""😉

    • @mattgosling2657
      @mattgosling2657 4 года назад

      @@nigelbase1196 Yeah mate they look brilliant dogs for working cover and marking fox setts and whatever else, I don't have dogs anymore but when I used to have terriers and lurchers I never knew of anyone who used Bedlingtons for going to ground, they just look a bit big but I don't doubt as keen as any other breed to get to a fox underground. I had a mate who had Bedlington whippet x, absolutely brilliant dog for catching rabbits. Your dogs in the vid look beautiful, do Bedlingtons come any other colour from the grey blue type colour I've always seen?

      @@nigelbase1196 I've been back and watched this video countless times and have always thought those two beddies were the nicest type I've ever seen. Judging from the vid I always assumed they'd be long dead. I'd love to own a type like that one day although they're becoming a bit of a ghost these days..
