I met Jack Carr in Texas for a book signing and he is legit. He’s welcoming, charming, and was a pleasure to be around. He gave everyone his 100% attention and gratitude. He has a fan for life.
The longer handled model of this tomahawk was actually used in a "real life" confrontation by a Mexican Marine that was in Mexico busting a drug cartel with other marines on a task force. A sicario, was attempting to draw his pistol. The marine swung his syoc tomahawk and struck the sicario near the lower shoulder. The impact caused the sicario to drop his pistol. Even though the sicario was wearing a level 3a vest. The front spike managed to penetrate the vest and made contact with shoulder resulting in a bloody puncture wound. Go to blaseforums. The marine use to post there under , "Ed Wood". He provided some pictures of the punctured vest that was worn by the sicario.
For that insane price that hook geometry should be flawless and the edge should be laser sharp since it's designed to be a fighing weapon and not a camp tool
agree. also the under edge of the blade is NOT sharpened although in the book he talks of using the "under blade" surface to "skin the snake". several other tomahawks have some degree of sharpening of the "under blade" CRKT for one at ~ $191.00 which is kinda pricey but nothing compared to the W-S tomahawk $$ range
Im wondering if the point is off to help strengthen the spot where the 2 edges meet...i would think a concave edge would chip pretty easily....just a thought

I’ve read two of the JC books and saw the Amazon series. I had to see the tomahawk. I googled it and found your video. Thanks for making it. I’m going to checkout some of the other blades you have in the video. The books are great BTW.
I received a Winkler Knife, as a gift today. I was gathering info on the company and saw the RUclips video on the tomahawk, from Jack Carr. I watch RUclips videos, and decided to watch it. Thanks for your review. I really enjoyed it.
Was looking for a good camp axe/tomahawk and The Terminal List swayed me towards Winkler and also led me to this video because I wanted to find more reviews on their products before making a decent investment. All of the recent reviews happen to be about this model because of the series. Was considering an RMJ at first because they were a brand I knew and I want to get one of the best and just be done with it. Couldn't find a Jenny Wren Hammer Poll anywhere (what I wanted) and I think I've settled on the Winkler Combat Axe Hammer. I like the more traditional look of the Winklers and it checks all the boxes

I watched your video because of the Terminal List show. You have some awesome blades! I have read all of the Jack Carr books so far. I would like to buy a Microtech Stich. It’s a very cool knife. It’s very expensive. I would love to own a Winkler Tomahawk as well. I have been a Daniel Winkler fan for a really long time. I think he will sell a lot of hawks because of the Terminal List. Excellent video. Thank you

Weird - I've owned half a dozen different Winkler knives and they've all arrived very sharp. Though they do tend to have a thicker edge than many others, which may not make them feel as "slicey" but lends greater edge durability for hard use.
So my experience was watching The Terminal list day 1 of release & then finding out exactly what tomahawk Chris used later. I finally did some research on it. Read some reviews / experiences (basically the same thing you say, this Winkler guy doesn't sell you very sharp tools. It is what it is. Take it or leave it basically.) Anyway the prices are not what bothers me. That uneven edge is what almost becomes a deal breaker for me! The basic spike base version is 900+ !! I'm super grateful for an honest review from you though. This spike edge issue is super annoying at that price point. My theories on why this happened / happens is because they make several "normal" base versions, ready to ship and if someone orders a "spiked" version.. they take a finished one off the shelf & add the aggressive edge and spike.. so it's made to order from multiple different people. This is the only thing I can think of. I wouldn't think a hawk with an uneven edge like that would be allowed to leave the factory (unless it was being sold as a blemished hawk). I want one. No doubt. But if I'm risking that much of a edge difference.. I probably will just pass. That's unacceptable for a 8-12 week waiting period & nearly $1k. Probably a reason there are not many reviews on it his stuff. On another note, of he is producing this stuff solely for the combat savvy personnel. That edge will do just fine in a CQB situation. So maybe I'm just being to critical from a collector standpoint & not thinking about its practical use standpoint. That edge has no negative bearing in it's intended purpose of combat use. In short. I'm conflicted about this purchase. Bleh.
Yeah I agree. It bothered me a little at first but I have no doubt it will be reliable for it's intended use. There are a few vendors that sell these hawks and do offer a 15 or 30 day return policy so maybe give them a try and see if the spike is like mine. There was someone else who commented. He had the opportunity to go to winkler's site, spoke to him for an hour and said Daniel's excuse just come down to how busy he is. Check out half face blades. He makes some really good stuff! Managed to get on his custom order list. Will be having him make me his version of a spike tomahawk which in my personal opinion looks way better.
@@CivilianWarrior Wow. That's actually a pretty lame excuse. I get the being busy part, but sending out a "half ass ground tomahawk" is not okay.. that was a decision of profit over quality. I'm curious, have you tried to make the edge symmetrical? I bought one last weekend at Daniel Winklers grand opening of his shop next to his house and spent about an hour talking with him. My RND compact Spike is also unsymmetrical, but only about 5% unfinished. He told me they couldn't keep up with demand and the waits are 12+ months. This probably contributed to both of our Axes being partly unfinished. If you attempt to sharpen and bring it to perfect symmetry please let me know. I'm with you for a thousand dollars, it should be perfection and is driving me crazy.
Oh that's cool you got to talk to him for that long. I haven't tried and honestly probably won't for a long time. Yeah the books are what brought me here. The Winkler makes an appearance in every single one so its getting to a point where I'm thinking "am I REALLY a fan if I don't have one?" Lol
The guy Chris Pratt AKA "James Reese" in The Terminal List killed with this ax wasn't a "terrorist" he was a Sicario sent to kill James Reese's family. I just finished watching The Terminal List Episode 4 as this was the episode James got his revenge face to face.
Yes, in the book the Sayoc was used in a scene totally deleted from the show. And the scene where he makes a man walk around a tree, wrapping his own entrails around it, took place in Florida, and it was a totally different character that met that gruesome fate.
@@CivilianWarrior The Shrike 13 and Jenny Wren. The JW is more similar to the RnD compact…stocks a lot thinner, it’s a lot lighter and faster. If the RnD was 1/2 as thick I would have loved it.
@@1stSgtFritz yeah they are! I wish he could release two new books per year but then they might not be as good. Listening to the latest one now while at work.
I personally don’t care if 200 seals and 200 Green Berets liked Winkler, it’s too expensive for what it is and used for, and many tomahawks less than half the price that will cave in a skull or take off an arm.
How is the worth paying 1000 dollars for? You can't cut wood with it and at that cost you can get a decent firearm. I can tell it's quality and a good design but why would you need this?
read all those books loved them. TV show pretty good did not stick closely to book and definitely did not show the killing and BEHEADING MOSQUE the critics pretty much hated the tv show but if they'd put in the beh
Yeah I really wish they would have stuck a little more to the original story plot. Also would have liked seeing Reece killing the sicario is working his way down the building but that's just me lol
That edge is not acceptable, I’d have to fix it. The only blades I haven’t had to re-sharpen/reprofile are my Origin axe, microtechs and my Chris reeves blades. Busse/swamp rat, spartan and oh god benchmade all needed to be “fixed”.
you obviously have little experience working with steel, no big deal, i wouldn't criticize the symmetry as the intention has been lost on you. Also, if the blade isn't sharp enough, then improve it yourself, you'd have to eventually anyway if you used it. or is it going to be a display toy?
For close to $1000 and him being considered a Master bladesmith, I and a lot of people would expect it to be symmetrical. At that price point there really isn't any excuse. You're right I should learn and I am but I'm putting more effort into learning other things and training for an ironman
I read all five books then I watched part of the first episode. The story was different enough for me to stop. Not impressed. I'm currently on my 3rd or 4th re-read of the whole series again. Give me a reason to watch it, I cant find one. Reminds me of the story of battlefield earth. DO NOT WATCH THAT MOVIE. The book was epic. I've read it at least 7 times.
Yeah I was looking forward to the decapitation scene, didn't happen in the show nor did the part where he shot two cartel guys double teaming a woman and that whole scene. I think they should have made the show closer to the book.

Yeah the books are what brought me here. The Winkler makes an appearance in every single one so its getting to a point where I'm thinking "am I REALLY a fan if I don't have one?" Lol
Lol I wanted this before the books but they are maybe 90% of the reason why I finally got one so I know how you feel
Yep, watched The Terminal List and just had the see famous tomahawk.
Nice! Hope you enjoyed the video
Yes stumbled across this vid during a jack carr rabbit hole
Question, whats a sayoc? What language does sayoc come from?
Tagalog. Filipino language.
@@SoldierDrew thanks, did some search in pilipino. Sayoc likewise is a family name in the philippines.
I’m def gonna make a run of forging a pair of those
Reading terminal list now
The guy Chris Pratt AKA "James Reese" in The Terminal List killed with this ax wasn't a "terrorist" he was a Sicario sent to kill James Reese's family. I just finished watching The Terminal List Episode 4 as this was the episode James got his revenge face to face.
Yes, this is what happens in the show. In the book, it is a little bit different however.
Yes, in the book the Sayoc was used in a scene totally deleted from the show. And the scene where he makes a man walk around a tree, wrapping his own entrails around it, took place in Florida, and it was a totally different character that met that gruesome fate.
I need one!
I love the design of the RnD and Compact but the weight didn’t do it for me. Like RMJs for use more.
There's been a number of comments on RMJs, starting to consider them for a more general use hawk/axe. Which model did you get?
@@CivilianWarrior The Shrike 13 and Jenny Wren. The JW is more similar to the RnD compact…stocks a lot thinner, it’s a lot lighter and faster. If the RnD was 1/2 as thick I would have loved it.
beautiful hawk
The Narrows brought me here from a Bosch series book.
Yes that’s why
I liked the show, def a lil different from the book but still good. Loved that Jack Carr got to be in the show too.
Yeah same. Hope Amazon makes true believer as for season 2 etc
I think RMJ Tactical makes a better tomahawk, and they’re cheaper 1:39
I read all the books in a month. Loved them!
Damn brother that's commitment!
@@CivilianWarrior what can I say? They were good! 😎
@@CivilianWarrior I like to read. BTW, the hawk is beautiful, but I can’t afford 700 bucks for one.
@@1stSgtFritz yeah they are! I wish he could release two new books per year but then they might not be as good. Listening to the latest one now while at work.
What about the t-shirt???
From Jack carrs site and they do shrink after washing so you might want to air dry it
I personally don’t care if 200 seals and 200 Green Berets liked Winkler, it’s too expensive for what it is and used for, and many tomahawks less than half the price that will cave in a skull or take off an arm.
True, heck even a machete will do the trick
Terminal List brought me here.
Heck yeah, what do you think about the show?
Read all of Jack Carr's books.
I'm watching this because of Critical Role's Travis Willingham source of inspiration, to his character in Exandria Unlimited: Calamity...
I don’t have a Winkler, but from everything I’ve researched, RMJ Tactical makes a much better tomahawk Much cheaper as well I have the shrrike.
Jack Carr, all the books
Hey you found my knife!
Haha
This axe is cool as hell but not 1000 dollars cool. Especially the steel they use. There is nothing special about the steel….
How is the worth paying 1000 dollars for? You can't cut wood with it and at that cost you can get a decent firearm. I can tell it's quality and a good design but why would you need this?
read all those books loved them. TV show pretty good did not stick closely to book and definitely did not show the killing and BEHEADING MOSQUE the critics pretty much hated the tv show but if they'd put in the beh
lots got cut out of that one ?? why. more censorship. ?????
Yeah I really wish they would have stuck a little more to the original story plot. Also would have liked seeing Reece killing the sicario is working his way down the building but that's just me lol
SHARPEN IT
That edge is not acceptable, I’d have to fix it. The only blades I haven’t had to re-sharpen/reprofile are my Origin axe, microtechs and my Chris reeves blades. Busse/swamp rat, spartan and oh god benchmade all needed to be “fixed”.
Jack Carr
Movie had the full size RND, not compact.
Lol yes you are absolutely right. Love how you call me out on that small technicality but you called it a movie when it's a TV show 🤣.
@@CivilianWarrior it’s basically a long AF 10 hour movie really. 💥
Cerrit Agrupnin brought me hear
Herp derp at paying 1000 for this
Jack carr
idk man..the winkler belt knife i have is the sharpest thing i have
you obviously have little experience working with steel, no big deal, i wouldn't criticize the symmetry as the intention has been lost on you.
Terminal list books led me here
Yes!!
$1,000 yeah I'm good on that. It is a nice look tomahawk though.
JC!
Yep, Jack Carr
Nice, hope you enjoyed the video
Just weird. Not a hawk. It's a hatchet.
It's not worth a grand though hell no,it's nice but I'd buy 3 super nice true tried hawks for less
JC
Jc
The answer is..."Walk!"
I must be getting old bc I don't understand the meaning lol
JC
Nice!
@Civilian Warrior i wanted to see the detective say "god help who did this to him."
@@TheBoatPirate Yes! So many good scenes from the book that were cut out.
Yeah terminal list lol too bad the axe seems not great i was going to get one not now though
pronounced SIGH-yoc
That looks like an overpriced toy.
It is!
awesome review dude!
Thank you
