Seeing as the point of those episodes was that these are things NOT to do, I think the censors actually just need to watch and absorb the episodes themselves, maybe talk with their mommies and daddies about them, because evidently they're failing to grasp what's intended for 5 year olds.

There’s actually a very wholesome story around the Sesame Street Wicked Witch episode.
After the episode got pulled, Mr. Rogers invited Margaret Hamilton onto his show and dedicated a whole episode to him showing young children that she only played a witch and was in reality a very nice woman.

Banning an episode of a cartoon for "mocking representations of the founding fathers" is one of the most ironic things ever, considering the founding fathers instilled the right to freedom of speech and expression the USA is so well known for. Two notable ones being The World Trade Center Bombing in February 1993, and The Oklahoma City Bombing in April 1995, both occured after "Flying Dupes" first aired in 1991. The sky needs to include Michael Jackson's Thriller, since it was what I call the 'father of disturbing music videos', as the King of Pop called John Landis and Rick Baker after watching An American Werewolf in London, and told them "Turn me into a monster!". James Rolfe, known for the character The Angry Video Game Nerd admitted MJ was absolutely terrifying in the music video during his tribute to the artist shortly after his passing(it's no longer on RUclips, and I only saw a reupload of the video once, and had completely vanished two years later). Skinny Puppy's music videos such as Worlock, Spasmolytic, and Testure were fucked up, as the former and latter include graphic imagery and gore(Testure having actual footage of animal experimentation). So they need to be on there, especially Evanescence's Going Under, Marilyn Manson's The Beautiful People, Nine Inch Nails' Closer and The Perfect Drug, TOOL's Prison Sex, and KoRn's A.D.I.D.A.S' music videos.

There were two episodes of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody that were banned after their original airing, and aren't on Disney+. The first one was the Season 1 episode that introduced the recurring character of Bob. That one was banned because it was seen as a harmful depiction of dyslexia. The other one was a Season 3 episode that guest starred Chris Brown. That episode was banned after it was revealed that he beat his then-girlfriend pop star Rhianna up.
Other Disney Channel examples include one episode from both So Random and Shake It Up being censored for making jokes about eating disorders, the Hannah Montana episode where Oliver was revealed to have diabetes getting banned because its handling of the topic was seen as problematic, and the Jessie episode that was censored because the main characters basically bully a lactose intolerant kid.

The Caillou and Arthur ones, and a few of the others, really are "this one was banned because it was trying to teach a positive message and to do so they necessarily had to show the negative behaviour as an example of what not to do" which suggests the censors may need to watch the episodes themselves, because evidently their ability to understand them is less than the target audiences of the respective shows. And seeing as the audience of Caillou is, like, 4, that's rather pathetic.

  • @JRhodes16

I work with kids and 90% of the caillou episodes are how kids that age really act. When calliou yells at his friend, my kids do that to each other every day! They are learning to regulate their emotions and sometimes they will hurt their friends feelings but they learn from the emotions they see ‼️ There are kids that pinch, hit and push their friends or siblings, I think seeing that on tv with an easy to understand resolution could be a good thing!

Sometimes I wonder how are kids gonna potentially know how to deal with death, bullying or traumatic events if they're never allowed to be exposed to it in a safe manner like cartoons. Sadly a lot of kids experience that way too early in their life and are left with big emotions even adults don't know how to handle most of the time.

so basically it all boils down to: 9/11 adjacent events/tragedies, racism, guns, some about sickness, some about gay people, some that were because of sexual themes, lance armstrong for some reason?? and obviously some relating to ww2 and hitler... and some that arent even really that bad but were just uncomfortable/scary/bad examples for kids (also some that were actually physically harmful in the case of the epileptic ones)
gotta be honest i genuinely dont even know why some of these were even made. also why they didnt just replace the flashing in the porygon episode with something else instead of banning it altogether, ive always wondered that

I'll never understand banning episodes that tackle serious matters such as death or addiction in a tactful and respectful manner. Personally, I think kids need to see this stuff, and having it explained to them by a show they like is miles better than having them stumble upon it later on, unprepared. I don't really know what censors think they're protecting kids from, here. If anything, they're probably doing more harm than good.

You know that Witch on Sesame Street episode, the witch is played by Margaret Hamilton who played the wicked witch in the "The Wizard of Oz". She must have made a deal with PBS in the 70's because she is also on an episode of Mister Rogers where she appears in and out of costume and explains that the costume is pretend and that she is actually a really nice person.

A crazy thing about all of these banned episodes is that despite some of them being clearly not ok, I remember watching pretty much all of these in the average TV syndication runs in Latin America. I even remember seeing The Isle of Pingo Pongo and All that and Rabbit Stew in TV, though only once, many others remember this.
Despite this we had some weirder censorship like removing the part where Finn takes off his shirt while bathing in a fountain in "No One Can Hear You" Not the subsequent parts where he's shirtless, just him removing it.

The guns episode of Pokemon would also be inconsistent with the lore of the Pokemon multiverse in general, because artificial weapons generally don't exist because of Pokemon. When you can make friends with a living flamethrower, why do you need a gun?

Funnily enough I think the infamous Tom & Jerry episode was never banned here in Poland, maybe in other places of Europe too. I've seen it several times as a kid (growing up in the early 2000s)
The pingu peeing episode supposedly was banned too but I saw it on TV 100%. Definitely didn't imagine it, it's one of two Pingu episodes I actually saw as a kid since I didn't tend to watch the channel it aired on often (later I became a huge Pingu fan lol). While peeing is probably partly the reason why it got banned, a lot of people thought him drinking a ton of juice/soda before needing to use the toilet was an allegory for drinking alcohol, which is a stretch. Likewise I 100% saw the one at the doctors.
The first kiss Pingu episode being banned is hilarious considering that he "kisses" Robby at some point in the cartoon, who is his friend seal and who is a boy lol

Once again, I'm baffled by the fact that the TMNT 2003 series did not even SLIGHTLY appear on an iceberg of such context.
It was such a dark series at one point that not only it had a banned episode due to gore ("Insane in the Membrane") but also had an ENTIRE SEASON removed from broadcast for being too dark.
Oh, and don't get me started on "Nightmares Recycled", that shit has a lost episode creepypasta type beat but it's 100% real (or at least, conceptually).

Why is this an iceberg? The tiers don't seem to have any effect on the severity of the content or rarity of the episodes discussed. Some earlier tier episodes are way more mature or hard to find than some episodes in later tiers.
Also, just a personal thing, but I think it would've made the video more succinct to mention all the episodes of a single show together rather than spread apart, was honestly getting annoying hearing about Pingu or Caillou every second clip between the more interesting banned episodes.

I vividly remember being shown all of the ww2 era disney cartoons in class by my 5th grade teacher (2010ish). 10 year old me was fascinated by them. The one I remember the most is Education for Death. But I remember the Donald duck ones just as well. I understand why they were banned - my teacher didn't just show them for fun; she wanted to teach us about how propaganda worked and how racism (especially against the japanese) was used to get people to support the war effort. That was one of my favorite days in class.
I've seen other ones that she didn't show us - mostly looney tunes ones that would probably have been a bit more controversial to be shown to 5th graders.

during the Mister Skinnylegs (Peppa Pig spider episode) segment you got a word wrong: "(Australian spiders) can be poisonous". they're venomous, not (necessarily) poisonous, and getting bit by them is the real danger. to be fair, both venomous spiders and poisonous spiders would be dangerous to small children because small children eat everything.

I have two examples of banned episodes.
The original 90’s dub of Sailor Moon was censored to hell and back, with multiple episodes not getting a proper English release until VIZ got the English rights for Sailor Moon.
And the Italian series Winx Club had a banned episode called “Miss Magix, where the character of Stella enters a beauty pageant with one of the other contestants being a Black girl who later in the episode is seen crying because of her hair being turned into an Afro, with the other main characters coming to see why the girl was crying with Bloom, the main character, touching the Afro and having it bounce with it having a sound effect while doing so, as well as Stella coming out of her dressing room and commenting on it with her saying, "What's that?" In a stock and disguised tone, with this whole scene implying that natural POC hair textures aren’t beautiful, but this episode hasn’t really been released after 2020, with some fans believing it was because of the BLM movement that was happening around that time and because of how beauty pageant culture is being more frowned upon today than it was back in the 2000s, with the original 4Kids dub of the episode from the mid-2000s changing it so her voice was high-pitched and the Nickelodeon dub just removing this episode as well as other non-offensive season one episodes in their re-animated recap specials at the start of their own English dub.
