WRECKED $1,000 Arctic Cat 4-Wheeler Won't START *You'll Never Guess What Was Wrong*

- This 2004 Arctic Cat 650 4 Wheeler was only $1,000 but it lived a rough life. Josh bought this bike a few weeks ago and it started right up. Once the new frame came in and everything was swapped into it the starter clicked a few times and everything went dead. Josh called me into to find the electrical problem while he finished bolting everything else back together. After about 45 minutes of tracing the entire ignition system out I found the problem and it was way simpler than either of us expected. If you want to watch the entire frame swap and what Josh is going to use it for the video will be on his channel soon. @TheFracturedRooster

Bought this same unit a few years ago for $1300.... ran when the seller showed it to me, but barely ever ran again.... smoked like a chimney until it never would run again. Sold it for $800 a few months later. Lesson learned. Don't buy old crap unless you are an "old crap" guy. Respect JR.
It just needed a top end lol
never shift the 4x4 while moving. always come to a stop before switching between high and low. that crunch it made at 13:42 . but sweet find and good work tracking that down !
I was waiting for it to lock up and send him over the bars when he did that
@@gasNmudtv 😂🤣💯
Hey JR! Just wanted to say thanks for all of the videos! You help get my mind off all the stresses right now in my life!
Thanks for watching Keith, glad I could help! 🍻
I hope things get better for you
Spoiler: It was a mostly-blown fuse that still read as if it had continuity and allowed ~1 volt through instead of 12 volts.
I remember back to the old days of the WatchJRGo Rolls Royce project when this was unofficial shop of this channel!
I see what you did there. You said "I think it's a Schwinn" so 40 people would immediately call you an idiot and then tell you what it really is,
"It's just a zip tie! " MAAAAN I totally felt that instant anxiety and the "what the fk just broke" thought 😂😂😭😭
Just like the good old days back at Josh’s shop.
Sweet, I love four wheeler content!
And we get to have fun with it 💯
I got a 2005 650V2 arctic cat at salvage and completely rebuilt it. The engine really rips, the fastest utility quad back in it's day. The V twin sounds good too. Use L range when working, towing, hauling for better belt life. The belt sensor (limp mode)and electric actuator for engine braking are more hassle than they are worth on a old machine. You can shift into 4x4 while rolling, must be stopped for H, L and R shifts plus when applying diff lock. The rear brake is a separate brake cylinder, caliper etc. most don't work well. Bedliner the racks to spruce it up.
Plainly the machine is older, but powder coating those top carriers would really help improve the look of it.
That is an original Chicago Schwinn made either in May of 1952 or April of 1957 according to the Schwinn database.
Definitely a pre-WWII bike. The rear facing dropouts are a dead giveaway. It's difficult to date the older ones because all of the records were lost in a factory fire.
@@fomocopowersgarage7103 Schwinn only made the Flying Star from 1955. According to a bicycle site, that serial number was used twice. Once in 1952 and again in 1957. The 1957 date would correspond with the build time of the Flying Star so it is likely a Schwinn. The frame shape matches that shown for other girls and ladies bikes of that year. The paint on the fenders is also classic Schwinn. Bikes that didn't have chrome or stainless steel fenders had painted fenders with a pin stripe on each side and a chevron at the end like that bike does.
@@tiredoldmechanic1791 but.... that's not a 1950s bike....I absolutely guarantee it isn't. That entire frame style was phased out after WWII. Yes,it's quite obvious it's a girl's bike. Schwinn sold thousands of bikes to smaller independent brands, that's where the Flying Star headbadge comes into play. I trust my own knowledge more than "according to a bicycle site"....I just sold a 1940 Schwinn for $11k....i think i might know a thing or 2
@@fomocopowersgarage7103 Yeah the frame looks more like something from one of the older catalogs in my brief google search.
With JR on the scooter WOT it looked and sounded like the quad was going back to the future.
Thanks for the update JR! Love watching your videos and with you and josh, all of us really know who the brains behind the operation is lol
A trick to hold the battery nuts in place is screw the battery in to the nut and pull the bolt up fold up a zip tie and put it behind there and it’ll hold, I work in the Powersports industry and I know all about how much of a PITA they are
I put a short piece of plastic tubing behind it. Most non-auto batteries come with overflow tubing included.
It's always the stupidest easiest part on problems like that. I've spent days trying to troubleshoot things just to find out something was unplugged or had gotten eliminated in a upgrade and the system was looking for the missing part before it would work. Happened with my computer and I was up till 2am before I realized the next morning that I had moved a critical part to the back of the box and it was too far away for the wireless keyboard it was looking for to get picked up. Moved the usb dongle back to the front port and everything worked again. It's always the last thing you touched, moved, changed. 🤬
A guy near where I live took his quad for a short run down the road to his buddy's house and didn't bother with a helmet and today he's a vegetable. For the sake of those who love you, please put on a helmet even when doing a short run to test something out.
Fun video. Haven't seen any Fractured Rooster content for a bit. Still planning on uploading videos?
i miss the good old days of you two working in Josh's garage
Worked as a Arctic Cat Tech for 5 years. Ditch that thing. Sell it now that you’ve got it all together and running. Biggest piles of junk in the industry. Makes good power but they are junk machines. You’ll have never ending problems with Arctic Cat atvs
That thing wired to side looks like a home made bypass for the belt stretch sensor. You need to do a jump on two terminals to get it reset and out of limp mode. But whatever they hooked up I guess worked for them. Reset sequence should be online but my son already knew it so he did mine.
That bike is likely from the 50's judging by the skip tooth sprockets. Not likely a schwinn, they didn't start producing more than one step through frame until the late 60's, and the one they did make had a ton of extra decorative metal. The stamp on the bottom bracket is just the serial number, super not helpful for identifying anything that old. It might be an old fuji or nishiki. If you want to get into some seriously deep rabbit hole digging the japanese welded a different direction than the americans, but I can't remember who did what.
I worked at Copart I would see four wheelers totaled for the smallest of things 😂
Thats def why my next wheeler is coming from Copart. They are there all the time because 1000cc is way too much for Hunter Bob going around the corner.
@@joeliopro1740 It’s crazy 😂 but true i have a video on my TikTok of a motorcycle that got wrecked with 9 miles like shît that sucks
Curious why you basically always use the multimeter instead of pulling out a test light. I had heard that a test light is more data than just volts because it actually pulls some amperage, and so you'll check something that looks ok with volt meter and it might look ok but test light would be weak.
bump
Caption says Watch Jericho.
I miss Josh's garage.
Supposed to be another number on the frame down by the back wheel, looks like the Flying Star made from 55-58 then 1 year in 61, have to find the chain guard that is missing.
It's actually much older. More like 1939-1941.
That brought back some memories of my artic cat tech days, those 650 ripped, then they put a 1000cc in one called the Thundercat 😬
When are you going to finish the corvette? Wanting more of that content, for sure!
11:46 "We went too far" - Harold and Kumar
What happened with the 67 Camaro?
I'm pretty sure that's a Schwinn, because it looks just like the bike I learned to ride on. Based on when I learned to ride a bicycle it's probably from the late 1950s.
The bicycle is a Holland spec frame. Very popular in Europe, particularly in the Netherlands.
Looks like a Schwinn Hollywood. Possibly missing a bunch of parts. The frame looks like 1938-40, but the serial numbers don't match. Best guess is 1939 due to inconsistencies in serial numbers.
If you pull the crank out, the year will be stamped on it.
If you ever come back to Las Vegas I would love your help with my motorcycle it's a 1985 Yamaha been trying to figure out this electrical. ,👍👍 Awesome work guy's
JOSH💪🏻. Hell yaa
I see a Steelers logo in the background. It's nice to see a little class out there in the Midwest. ; -)
Glad to see josh
The bike is a pre-war Schwinn. They sold a lot of bikes to Independent companies, such as hardware stores, that put their own badges on the bikes. So you will come across a ton pre-war Schwinn bicycles with a variety of different head badges on them.
For sale, used ATV, used lightly by grandma going to and from church, at least that is what she said.
Condition of the on off switch on handle bars...
Nice find Josh!
Classic WatchJR Go.
Special guest star Joshua. Looks like a go cart for older boys
That looks like a fun rig. Enjoying all your videos. Peace
What store was that where you went to get the bolts??
A real one for sure, wish I had one like that down here.....closest is HD. My guess Ace or True Value....
16:48 If you really want to know the answer, you should've said, "This is a Bugatti 63AMG."
Sometimes, it's just a goof around with your buddy in his garage kind of day.
Great video from JR.
Love the Atv content 👍 and good diagnosing guys
First time I saw that kick stand was on my Reliegh Record in 74!
I love projects like this. Is $1,000 a fair, good, or great price in today's crazy world?
That's a heck of a deal for 1000 bucks
I would love to see an off road video with the Artic Cat and the Can Am
I know you said never. But I'm persistent lol RALLY FIGHTER PLEASE!!!! You can't deny it would be BADASS!!! Go cross country in it and find obstacles to drive through or over lol
great video. This is content I like to watch
Check the tires see if there Carlyle tires if they are and an unusual tire bead it’s a swinnn
Try this again.
Flying Star is Schwinn.
Google up Schwinn Flying Star Ladies.
26" bike.
Made between 1955 and '61
Someone else suspected it to be a 57.
Dunno.
13:50 B double E double R U N, BEER RUN
I like the idea of an electric board for recording
An old Schwinn Flying Star from the 50’s?
9:53 That's the 7th fetzer valve.
How about all grounds
The bicycle is from the early 50's and is a Schwinn.
Looks to be a shwinn frame. Looks very close to the one i have. Mine is a shwinn
I'm not a 4 wheeler guy... How much is this thing worth after the frame has been swapped? I imagine they don't give away new frames and this seems like a bit of work?
Repo'd a quad once & rode it back to the shop on surface streets (about 3 miles). They are not built for the crown on the road! lol Had to keep pushing it left to to keep it on the tarmac. On the grips, no need for glue just use hair spray. Been doing it forever & it holds them just fine lol (there more you know)
I wire tie mine on my motocross bikes.
@@derekgardin1512 On the race bikes at the track we'd always use safety wire on 2 ends to keep them on there.
Show the badge onnthe fork stem of the bike.
Is there a kill switch..like when you fall off..it turns off the bike..maybe it failed
Dude if y’all lived closer to me in Alabama we could ride the hunting club for a day just got my Honda perfect put the factory stickers back on it and it looks like brand new
Totally a schwinn frame, there’s more serial numbers on the frame but i’m guessing it’s from the 50’s
When are you going to finish the vette?
Did I spy a Rural King bolt sizer during that hardware run.
Cheers mate
Let’s get back on the vette
14.6 charging voltage is too high. Should be about 13.2.. Regular putting out too much voltage.
Hey JR do you still have the 300cc grom that justa6 built
How many other RUclips channels do you follow? Seems like we follow the same ones.
The almighty Google says...
Your bike is an original Chicago Schwinn.
Unfortunately the serial number you entered was used twice by Schwinn meaning there are two possible dates for your bike...
Serial number stamped on: 05/22 to 05/29 of 1952 or...
Serial number stamped on: 04/22 of 1957.
My guess is the 1952 because of the chain.
Why does it think the oil temperature is high
"Josh wants to know what this bicycle frame is..." So, you should have said it's a Walmart Huffy and then 300+ people would chime in to tell you what it is.
Get in contact with Mike Wolf from American Pickers , he will know if it's a Schwinn bike or not.
"You won't believe what's wrong with it"
Ain't got no gas in it
Some folks call it a kaiser blade
Good times.
maybe get away with shifting at 1 or 2 mph but not recommended
Those are not shift on the Fly
Ain't no gas'nit
(More context) ...French fried taters mmhm!
Are you telling me I can get a fuel pump instead of having a carb?
The old bike is a Schwinn flying star ladies/hipster bike, early to 50's (head badge is a giveaway). not as valuable as a mens bike tho
Hi
"Ain't got no gas in it MmHmm"
Josh is out of uniform. 👨🔧
It's so Josh's squadron safety "officer" has less fuel for when Josh gets flamed for not wearing a helmet.
Hey
🥇 boom!
I called it!!!👍🍻
The bicycle is a Ladies Schwinn Flying Star. Dating from 1955-1961.
Normalize selling junk ATVs and Jetskis for less than $1000, they ain’t worth it but people swear by it.
That thing is Huge, or your buddy is smaller than he looks! XD
I believe the bike is a Columbia.
grip glue? rooooooooookie! use hair spray and jam a screw driver in the end top to let air in. That way you can remove them with an air gun later.
Is that a bitcoin miner in the background there?
Yeah, Josh and I both mine 🍻
Fixing things is good. :-)
