OMG ypu saved me so much time. Thank you, thank you, thank you. My issue was with brake handle. Busically i bypass it with simple unplug and stick piece of wire and it starts. Thank you❤❤❤❤
On the last couple of chinese quad rescues ive done, i end up clipping out most of the harness, and just start making the connections from the stator to the cdi, then to the coil, kill switch, and then seperate wires to the starter relay. Crimp everything up, heatshrink. Go ride the quad and do some tuning.
@@TheJoshBucklew I haven't yet, but i will on the next one. Pretty much like Harvey says, making the CDI happy is the goal. I always start by connecting the stator and cdi, dont worry about the yellow and white wires until later, all you need is the 3 other wires, ground, ignition timing and ac power. Then run your black and white from the cdi to your kill switch, switch to ground. Then ignition wire to ignition coil, other coil connection to ground. I try to consolidate my grounds. Grab a spare spark plug and check for spark. Arc across the starter solenoid, the machine should fire off, given an ok carb.
@@LilQSlice thank you! I got mine started a few weeks ago, but I put the throttle tube thing (you can tell I know what I’m talking about 😅) in backwards, so when it fired up, it was full throttle. Anyways, my starter wire and my spark wire melted to the exhaust and shorter. I replaced every electrical component, plus starter and stator, then wiring harness. No start. So I replaced the carb once more. Still no start. I am wondering if the compression is off, like he shows in the video here.
@@TheJoshBucklew Are you getting spark? If not, disconnect the kill switch wire from the cdi by pulling out the pin from the connector. Plug in a spare spark plug and crank the engine while touching it to the frame. If it ran before the electrical snafu, the compression will be the same. If it sparks with no kill switch, then you might have a bad safety switch somewhere that is connecting to ground.
@@LilQSlice alright, so I disconnected the safety switch from the CDI and got spark off the plug onto the frame. How should I start looking for grounds on the other wires if I don’t have a volt meter?

You had to have known about the compressing of the brake to start it ! It made for a complete starting video ! The ones I hate are the ones with the remote , they can be a hassle !
Hey Harver im having a lil trouble with my Coolster. I got spark n fuel, I've adj the valves correctly n Its like it just want turn over all the way completely. Its like it's getting hung up. New battery n all the checks

If jumping the solenoid doesn't make starter go, is it for sure solenoid or is it possibly something else electrical not allowing solonoid to work? I tested start button the kill switch and both check ok. The key switch does get power and when flipped on one of the other 3 wires works on ohms meter but the other 2 still don't. Looking at wire diagram it shows other 2 are only when key switch is off so I'm assuming the key switch is good. There is 12v to solonoid. No click from solonoid When attempting to start and When jumping solonoid there is still no sound.
I know this an old video but I have a China Baja 90 atv here and the starter will turn when hitting the start button but doesn’t engage to crank and fire. I first thought it was starter clutch so replaced it and still doing same thing. If I hook the battery directly to the starter with jumper cables it cranks and fires right up. What could be causing the starter not to engage through just pushing the button?
Thanks. I chased it down to the momentary switch. Literally the last thing I could check because I figured there's no way a simple push button could be bad. Wrong! lol
My button just went to. I'm thinking of just wiring a new switch to the relay (solinoid) just a push button that completes the circuit because it'll start right up if I touch both relay bolts together

Hey Bob!! If it is a china quad, one of 3 things, the gear is off Ur starter, Ur starter clutch died, or U broke Ur starter chain.... Good luck, Ur fly wheel cover needs to come off for inspection.... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

My nephew got a 110 coolster gave to him it's pretty nice runs good the wiring was all cut and messed up I'm gonna get him a new complete kit I just put one on my other sunl it's easy but for now we have to use a jump box on his bc if a battery was hooked up it would always be trying to start turning over so we use a jump box to start it soon as you hook the box up it automatically turns over like the starter is stuck engaged but when it starts it don't keep turning over so the solenoid bad you think? On my 125atv china made I have this one wire lose its a solid copper wire I think it's the ground,it goes no where else,and I think this is why it want start please help me out where do that wire goes,look like
So on my 250se big red there is a screw right above my spark plug. That is leaking oil.can you plz tell me what I need to do to fix that..also on my sway arm there is some play it’s not solid do I need to put a spacer on it.? there is a about 1/8 of a inch gap on the sway arm should I put a spacer or do you think I just need new sway arm bearings.?

Hey mine is doing the same thing. Just put a new battery in, it cranked over good but the carb was dirty so I took it off to clean it. Put in back in then the button wouldn't work, but I could jump the solenoid and it will run.
Well im having an issue relating to the spark plug, i couldn't get spark and realized i had a bad stator so i replaced it and finally got spark, but when i inserted the spark plug into the atv, the engine wouldn't start or move, but when i took the spark plug out, the engine would start moving..? Any tips?
I just got a china 250 quad, when I hook up a battery it immediately engages the starter then blows the starter solenoid fuse.? There wasn't a fuse in the red wire that goes to the battery, I added one but that one keeps blowing too? Any advice?

Hi, I have a kids Chinese ATV, I'm over looking or missing something. It will only start when I jump the battery and it starts first try, battery is new, spark plug fires, fuse is good, solenoid is new, and I'm sure it's not due to me being a female I hope lol. Can you point me in the direction that I should be going. I want to pull my hair out I need someone who knows what they are doing to possibly help me. I am just learning I am just a mom who has a child that wants to ride her 4-wheeler lol. So if at all possible can you tell me why the 4 wheeler will only start when I jump the piece of.... I know this video is a bit older but I just got one of these quads for free and I finally got it to start but it'll only do it when I give it gas through the carb, due to me not having an air filter or starting fluid, I soaked a wash cloth in gas and held it over the intake and it fired up and ran but it died after a few seconds, it has a fresh cdi and the carb was just cleaned today, what would cause this behavior?
You may have cleaned the carb, but you still have a blockage preventing the fuel from either getting into the carb ( peacock, fuel line, fuel filter, or the float needle/seat ) or from being drawn up into the metering circuits from which it is metered into the venturi. These metering circuits are the jets, passage ways in the carb body, emulsion tube, main jet air bleed, pilot jet air bleed, and the air/fuel mixture screws. The passage ways, ad the holes in the jets are tiny, like .025 to .065 inches in diameter. This means the smaller ones are a little smaller than a small sewing needle. To be cleaned properly the carburetor has to be completely disassembled, including removing the pressed in Welsh plug that blocks access to the Air/Fuel mixture screws which must be removed so the Idle circuit can be cleaned out and confirmed clear by spraying carb cleaner through the idle circuit and verifying that it comes out of the small hole/holes in the venturi near the throttle butterfly. The same test must be performed with each circuit. The jets should be clear enough that when you hold them up to the light and look through the hole running thru the center of them you can see light. After all is confirmed clear and you put the carb back together you will need to adjust the Air/Fuel mixture screws and Idle speed screw. I'd suggest if you really want to do this carb clean and adjustment service yourself that you either watch 1 or more videos about cleaning and adjusting ATV/Motorcycle carbs, purchase a book that covers "General Repairs for ATVs" that includes an in depth section on carb function, cleaning, repair, and troubleshooting, or you find somebody to make friends with locally who knows this stuff and doesn't mind coaching you through it. The other option is simply purchase a new carburetor. New carburetors for most single carburetor ATV/Motorcycle engines are available from a wide number of companies on the internet as well as actual powers ports shops that deal with Chinese quads, scooters, motorcycles, etc... The carburetors for most of the Chinese quads are usually less than $25, and if you end up buying a float needle, a float bowl gasket, and a pilot jet, all parts that often must be replaced, you will have to spend at least $25 on just those 3 items and now you've got an old carburetor with 3 new parts in it. I've been doing this work for about 35 years and can clean and repair these carbs in my sleep but I'm finding that after I buy the cans of carb cleaner, buy any parts that are needed, and spend the time doing the work that for $25 and 15 minutes ordering a carburetor that's brand new and take that option. Good luck.

I have a TaoTao ATA-250cc. I got it running for two days, and this morning I turned the key and got nothing. Absolutely nothing. Took a multimeter and the battery (12v-10ah) was at 12.4... The Solenoid was at 12.4. And the fuse is good. So why is it not turning over?

My atv was acting as if the the solenoid was acting up, it was just a bit of sloppiness in the chain that caused it to bind.
What color wires went to the micro switch? if you can remember

This is good knowledge that works for mowers and older vehicles too. I like that machine, it really looks like it has no heavy ride time on it. 👍👍

Can you point me in the direction that I should be going. I want to pull my hair out I need someone who knows what they are doing to possibly help me. I am just learning I am just a mom who has a child that wants to ride her 4-wheeler lol. So if at all possible can you tell me why the 4 wheeler will only start when I jump the piece of.... I know this video is a bit older but I just got one of these quads for free and I finally got it to start but it'll only do it when I give it gas through the carb, due to me not having an air filter or starting fluid, I soaked a wash cloth in gas and held it over the intake and it fired up and ran but it died after a few seconds, it has a fresh cdi and the carb was just cleaned today, what would cause this behavior?
You may have cleaned the carb, but you still have a blockage preventing the fuel from either getting into the carb ( peacock, fuel line, fuel filter, or the float needle/seat ) or from being drawn up into the metering circuits from which it is metered into the venturi. These metering circuits are the jets, passage ways in the carb body, emulsion tube, main jet air bleed, pilot jet air bleed, and the air/fuel mixture screws. The passage ways, ad the holes in the jets are tiny, like .025 to .065 inches in diameter. This means the smaller ones are a little smaller than a small sewing needle. To be cleaned properly the carburetor has to be completely disassembled, including removing the pressed in Welsh plug that blocks access to the Air/Fuel mixture screws which must be removed so the Idle circuit can be cleaned out and confirmed clear by spraying carb cleaner through the idle circuit and verifying that it comes out of the small hole/holes in the venturi near the throttle butterfly. The same test must be performed with each circuit. The jets should be clear enough that when you hold them up to the light and look through the hole running thru the center of them you can see light. After all is confirmed clear and you put the carb back together you will need to adjust the Air/Fuel mixture screws and Idle speed screw. I'd suggest if you really want to do this carb clean and adjustment service yourself that you either watch 1 or more videos about cleaning and adjusting ATV/Motorcycle carbs, purchase a book that covers "General Repairs for ATVs" that includes an in depth section on carb function, cleaning, repair, and troubleshooting, or you find somebody to make friends with locally who knows this stuff and doesn't mind coaching you through it. The other option is simply purchase a new carburetor. New carburetors for most single carburetor ATV/Motorcycle engines are available from a wide number of companies on the internet as well as actual powers ports shops that deal with Chinese quads, scooters, motorcycles, etc... The carburetors for most of the Chinese quads are usually less than $25, and if you end up buying a float needle, a float bowl gasket, and a pilot jet, all parts that often must be replaced, you will have to spend at least $25 on just those 3 items and now you've got an old carburetor with 3 new parts in it. I've been doing this work for about 35 years and can clean and repair these carbs in my sleep but I'm finding that after I buy the cans of carb cleaner, buy any parts that are needed, and spend the time doing the work that for $25 and 15 minutes ordering a carburetor that's brand new and take that option. Hi Harvey, great vids man! So I have spark and starter turns but I can't figure why my motor doesn't turn. It's not seized! only way to turn it on is to push start unfortunately. What am I missing?

I have a TaoTao ATA-250cc. I got it running for two days, and this morning I turned the key and got nothing. Absolutely nothing. Took a multimeter and the battery (12v-10ah) was at 12.4... The Solenoid was at 12.4. And the fuse is good. So why is it not turning over?
