I told him that when I met him about 3 years ago and he said he's just a normal guy. It was after his show and it was backstage. He met with everyone and was about to dip out and I was sitting down because I have Transverse Myelitis. I said hey, you haven't met me yet F'er. He loved that. After about 30 minutes I told him we probably needed to go to let him relax and said no, he enjoys meeting people and wasn't in a big hurry. So we sat and talked for about another 20 minutes or so. Everybody else talked to him for 1 to maybe 2 minutes and left. Myself my wife and a friend we'd just met, who is a young kid, 21. My wife mentioned that she had my 2 Ibanez's in the car and he said go get em. My Electric I got in 91 and he played it, without an amp and said he liked the feel of it and asked whi set it up. I said I did and he said I'd actually nailed it. I'm not trained or anything just tinker and set em up like I like. But, yeah totally cool dude. Oh and i knew about him being into bee keeping and asked how that was with the fires and he lit up like he couldn't believe that someone cared.
Steve Vai has been one of my favorites and a huge influence for me. A true genius and yet so humble. What a great person. Pray to the almighty that I get to meet him someday.
a true magician on his guitar and what a wonderful way he really gave you a good time in his studio , a humble kind and down to earth guy Steve Vai is :) enjoyed seeing this a lot :)
I'm fortunate to have one of Steve's old Fractal Axe-FX II's and settings used on the last tour it was on... Crazy to have acquired it after joking w/ him about it a couple months prior! The man is a true legend and will always be one of my faves!
@@KylieOlsson yes, very fortunate, indeed! Fractal had done a giveaway on Facebook many years ago, and Steve had donated it for that cause and signed it- however, they removed his settings from the device. I did not win the giveaway, but the winner ended up selling it on eBay and I was lucky enough to be the winning bidder in the last 10 seconds of the auction. After a few months of owning it, I wanted to go back and organize some of my settings created and also restore some of the factory presets that I accidentally had overwritten. When doing so I accidentally selected “restore user settings” instead of “restore factory settings”. I start scrolling through, I start seeing his track names and about shit myself. Haha - (edit* - Steve! If you are reading this, don’t worry I have kept those settings private! If you recall visiting Maine a few years ago, I’m the fella that had drawn a picture of you in high school, which you signed out in the freezing cold! I joked about trading you the picture for your fractal, and somehow manifested it two months later!) 🙏🏼
Such a great guitarist, performer and person. So genuine on video and on stage. I was lucky to see him play with Tampere philharmonic last year and I was in tears with him.
I could listen to Steve all day he is such a humble and interesting original human being and genius as we know. Thanks for doing this interview and I don't think any of us would complain if you did more with him Cheers ! 😉👍
I had to chance to play Evo in 2017 , was backstage in Miami hanging out with Thomas his then (amazing) guitar tech … and they’re bringing out all of Steve’s guitars for the show. And Evo comes out and I’m like wow … that’s Evo! … he just grabs it and hands it to me , “you wanna play it ?” And right out of that scene from Wayne’s World back in the day …. I hand it back saying “I’m not worthy ! I’m not worthy !” lol. Still kicking myself haha
I identify, just recently moved and insisted on holding my '79 Dean ZX while we drove. She is my one and only, call her Scarlett for well you should know.
I have the utmost respect for Steve Vai besides his musical talent he is a great human being. Had the good fortune to see him about a year ago. After the show, he came out to the edge of the stage and talked to the fans he didn't have to do that. What a nice guy
So happy Steve gave a shout out to Mathews Music in Long Island (Roosevelt Field Mall). I grew up in that store, went there practically every weekend. Vai’s an incredible inspiration.
Funny his first strat was bought at Matthew's music in Roosevelt Field mall since being from Long Island I purchased my 2nd guitar I ever owned there. It was a new Takamine GZ300 electric tobacco burst with original case in 1984 and I still own it in mint condition. Steve is a master and deserves the accolades he's accomplished.
Being 60 now, when we were kids, we would spend every Saturday at Roosevelt Field, and always go to Matthews to start the day. Now its a Sketcher store. Ironically enough I seem to still start in that store when I go to the mall! Lol!
Steve is an awesome musician and songwriter, reason I got obsessed with guitar and practiced 20hours a day all thru high school, and now have about 10 Ibanez guitars including a white Jem.
ah thank you! Pleased you are enjoying the channel as there is more coming ... Wish I could post the full shows as these are just the rough cuts but thought i'd give you guys some more content to enjoy with these incredible players
Wow.. It was a wonderful collection of 6-strings.. Well, 4 and 7-strings too..🎸..and HYDRA..❤️.. Once again a wonderful LISS.. Thank you Kylie!!❤️.. I just missed collecting honey.. 🐝🐝😁
Good that others also noticed the error in mathematics!! :-) We have to be precise here! Music is serious business! Nice video. It is only missing the A - B comparison of all the guitars in that room.......!!
hopefully you got to spend hours with Steve his always come across as open and warm to anyone with an interest in music to say I'm jealous is an under statement
Steve is such a great guy. I don't remember which video it was, but he pointed out "Don't focus on your weak points ... focus on your strong points" ... which to me, made a whole lot of sense to me. As I remember this one guitar teacher showing me Barre chords, but I was unable to properly Barre a chord, due to a crease in my finger, and he said "You need to press harder" ... that was not the issue . Holy moley, that Passion and Warfare album is just outrageously so top-notch
What a unique interview for this man, and artist! Great job ! How lucky are all of us to live in this world at the same time as Steve Vai! Time to buy a little guitar with four strings, to tune like a violin😂😂😂 Incredible!!
Thank you, that makes me very happy you say that as I've only just started playing so am genuinely exploring the guitar through these fantastic players...
Wow! I am in good company! My first guitar was also a Teisco Del Ray! I think it was like 2 bucks at a yard sale. The pickups did not work and my step cousin had to resolder some connections to get it playing. I wish I still had it for sentimental reasons. BTW- I am in nowhere near Steve Vai in skill, I consider myself a beginner at best. I did see Mr, Vai kick off the Inviolate tour here in El Cajon though- FREAKING AWESOME!!!!
He is such an inspiration and I think very few get close to his level of playing... ah we can only but dream.... Jealous you started all those years ago as im only 2 years in so still very much a beginner!
Need to start a show -- live at Vais palace! or steves house and play ! 24 episodes seasons- 3 songs and story time and then one free jam. ( i get producers credit and pay!! plus one guitar a season!!) 5 years !!! lets go
Steve Vai is the man, I drove around in my Nissan 200sx playing Zappa and Passion and Warfare back in the day. Hey, I thought I would have the first guitar and the first good guitar as well as good deals you come across 30+ years but then Katrina happened in 2005 and I lost everything I owned. I still cry myself to sleep over guitars I lost. I have bought a few since but prices now vs. me not really playing live like I used to makes it hard to justify me getting a vintage Les Paul again for instance.
agh Im so sorry to hear about you loosing your guitars, thats awful! In the full episode Steve shows me how to play 'for the love of god' and i was terrified.
Mito e leggenda vivente...mente eccelsa ed illuminata... Grande maestro...grande ispiratore... GRANDE ARTISTA... Grande personalità... Iconico esponente della Musica di valore🤟❤️
What a smart, generous and humble guy. Steve Vai is a class act. A true gentleman.
Yes, but with zero taste for guitars. The ugliest collection I've ever seen. Monster's parade. That swiss cheese 😭

"We like to allow our personalities to exfoliate out into the environment" may be the most Steve Vai thing Steve Vai has ever said.
I have a load of those short of quotes from spending the day with him... he is on another planet great!
@8:00 Funny I just happen to read this comment at the very moment he made this comment it in the video...
I love Vai's direct and humble style of communicating. Shows a loving, well-balanced personality.
One of the wildest guitarist I’ve ever seen in concert!
I saw Steve twice on the first DLR tour with Billy Shehan… OMG!
Steve Vai has been one of my favorites and a huge influence for me. A true genius and yet so humble. What a great person. Pray to the almighty that I get to meet him someday.
same
Steve Vai is fantastic. I’ve seen him live a couple of times… great to watch, great to hear 👍
Steve Vai is kindest and most talented man/musician in the world. I so appreciate him and love his music and style.
I agree
This room is a museum… love it
hahaha... it totally is! Blew my mind.
The more I know about Steve Vai, the more I love him. What a kind person !
Really enjoyed this video. Steve always comes across as so laid back and grounded. He's a true gem.
What a dream job., walking thru Mr Vai’s guitar collection. Us mortals could never, thanks for taking us a long! Very cool!!

Such a great guitarist, performer and person. So genuine on video and on stage. I was lucky to see him play with Tampere philharmonic last year and I was in tears with him.
Steve is like the mad scientist of guitarist. Such an amazing guitarist and a true gentleman

He seemed hesitant to hand EVO over to her. LOL true love for that guitar.
I was laughing, don’t thinks she knows what she was asking! 😂

She didn't exactly give him a choice.
I felt she imposed that on him pretty quickly. I didn't like this interview because she seems in the clouds and has no idea whos shes standing with.
"The Ham is cookin' ya know?" Steve Vai:2024
Haha, I caught that too.
The irony is he’s a vegetarian 😂

what a great time you spent interviewing Steve about all his incredibly guitars !
Thank you kylie for this journey through Steve's guitar collection ❤❤

Him and paul gilbert are like the coolest ever

That was a nice visit with Steve. I could spend weeks playing with all the gear there!
Steve is one of the coolest guys
Steve is an absolute gem, I play guitar thanks to the massive inspiration Passion and Warfare had on me, thank you Steve.
People can learn a lot from Steve Vai he is an awesome person as well as an awesome musician. Thanks for sharing
Thank you Darren... I totally agree, Kylie
🇬🇧😎How many times have we seen Steve Vai ?? Always magical a true legend 😎🇬🇧.
Great Steve, so communicative and affordable in every moment.
This was awesome. Thank you for this interview. i LOVED it.

Awesome thanks! I met him in '93 outside his gig here in the UK. He spoke to every single person and signed everything.
You know your stuff ma’am. Love it. Vai is just such a treasure.
Thank you!!! Thats very lovely to hear and yes, he is a true treasure and a lovely man.
Steve is a total trip man. I would love to hang out with him even for just a couple hours.😂❤
Great vids, and man, they say don’t meet your idols… but Steve is one guy always hear is just so down to earth. Love that man.

Steve probably gave him an autographed JEM as a thank you & some free tix to a show.

crazily humble for such a guitar god. respect him so much
what genius used a noise gate in the video in the part where they play the Hydra?! most interesting part of the video and I can't hear it >.
This is brilliant. I could watch him all day talking about his guitars. We should get him to play each one to get a comparison lol
Steve Vai is a real gentleman and a brilliant guitarist 🎸 👏 😁
Great interview!!!! Very fun!!
thank you! kylie x
Great video, Well done Kylie.
Steve is the kindest man.
Steve seems so down to earth and cool.
I’m sure that enter to that guitar museum fills you with as much energy as hugging a huge tree would. Great interview!
Thank you Jon...
Holy crap... Teisco Del Rao was my first electric, too. Even had the pivot string mute pad that I removed. Weighed a ton.
Great interview Kylie!

Yup...I need a violin guitar as well
I don't care for your other guitar interviews. This one however, you came prepared for and had done your homework. Great job.
The heart shaped guitar❤, still remember Whitesnake live in Bologna, 1990.
he seems like a real down to earth kinda guy:)
he totally is

Yeahh"Seducer & Climaxs" I likes that
L E G E N D !! I didn't know Steve loved riding a harley too? i ride a sporty Evo myself . even more respect
What a class act!!
Genius and original.
Because of his endorsement with Ibanez, the video doesn’t permit the camera to show the headstocks of his Fenders or Gibsons.
😵💫
You know you're the best when your axe has a seducer/climax regulator combo.
I never had a real guitar and Steve Vai have like 300 gorgeous guitars, OMG.
She plays on the Heart Strings very well
