      I was looking for European cabovers in the video. Where are? Freightliner Argosy it's not European. In the 80's Scania sold some trucks in Usa, cabovers and conventionals, there is still a dealer in NJ; Areu Truck Service, in Canada there are a bunch of Scania V8 both 143 series and 144 series, all 6x4 tractors that were used in Europe for oversize loads and I think there are still some Volvo FH 16-520, straight 6, 16 liter 520hp that were tested by a canadian firm. Import of new trucks from Europe is forbidden by the American law. You can roll with only if is an used truck and it's more than 20 years age. If you want some other info about Euro Trucks, feel free to contact me

      Freightliner, was building those. Years ago, at one of there manufacturing plants in South Carolina and shipping them off over seas. I remember, because, I used to deliver parts to them back in 2012. They used to test drive a complete build across there yard , as I was on the premises. There steering wheel was on the right, which was interesting. The gaurd at the gaurd shack revealed, they were being specially build for over seas. They originally came from here.

    While the normal US trucks look nice I've never really understood the dislike of cabovers; the visibility out of a European truck is 10 times better than a bull nose; and before anyone says otherwise I've driven both.

      @sterlingodeaghaidh5086 2 года назад +10

      I'm guessing since you driven both you know that the U.S has Cab Over trucks. Well most of the stigma was from when cab overs were introduced to the U.S market in the 70's-80's, these were not the modern trucks Europe has, but rather just flat front versions of the stock truck design. They were nice to look at but the ride quality was dismal at best, truckers hated them.
      Now a days, most truckers buy engine forward trucks for tradition, styling, and other stuff, plus their more prolific and allow for more living space, but that doesn't mean we don't see the occasional European truck here as well, I see them from time to time, while their nice, just don't have the same appeal honestly.

      @@sterlingodeaghaidh5086 BUT THEY ARE TECHNICALLY WAY MORE ADVANCED. ESPECIALLY IN THE SUSPENSION UR PROBLEM HERE IN THE US AND CANADA IS THE SECOND DRIVE AXLE WHICH LETS THE WHOLE TRUCK BOUNCE TOO MUCH AND THAT'S EXACTLY THE PROBLEM WHY THE ROADS HERE IN NORTHAMERICA ARE SO WRECKED ALL OVER. I'll NEVER UNDERSTAND THE THREE AXLE TRUCK - TWO AXLE TRAILER SYSTEM. MAKES NO SENSE. THE EUROPEAN CABS THESE DAYS ARE, TOO, AVAILABLE WITH A BUILD IN SHOWER IF U WANT IT. WHY THE HECK DO U WANT A THREE FEET SPACE BETWEEN THE SEATS AND THE BUNK? HONESTLY THERE IS NO NEED FOR THIS AS IT IS JUST A STATUS AND EGO THING I THINK. UNNECESSARY WEIGHT WHICH CAUSES UNNECESSARY MORE FUEL CONSUMPTION. I PORTANT THESE DAYS. FROM A DESIGN POINT THE EXTENDED HOOD ONCE IN A WHILE CAUSES UNNECESSARY PROBLEMS AT SOME SHIPPERS . I BET THAT IF U EVER DRIVE A REAL EUROPEAN TRUCK ESPECIALLY A SWEDISH SCANIA WITH 800 HP AND MORE, U WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO A US TRUCK. IF A EUROPEAN TRUCK WOULD NOT BEEN GOVERNED, I BET I'D OUTRUN EVERY US TRUCK NOT ONLY IN THE PENNSYLVANIA MOUNTAINS BUT AT THE DONNER, TOO. THEY HAVE A BETTER ROAD CONNECTIVITY JUST DUE TO THE BETTER FULL ALL AXLES AIRSUSPENSION AND THE FINE WORKING SPECS AND TORQUE. ANOTHER THING IS ONE HAS A WAY BETTER CONTROL OVER THE STEERING CAUSE U ACTUALLY SIT ON THE AXLE, NOT IN FRONT OF IT. AND THE CABOVERS AREN' T SO WIND SENSITIVE LIKE CONVENTIONALS. JUST SAYING FROM 1.5 000 000 KM OVERSEAS AND ALMOST 2 000 000 MILES US/CANADA EXPERIENCE HAVING DRIVEN ALL EUROPEAN MODELS AND ALL BUT MACK AND WESTERN STAR MODELS HERE IN NORTH AMERICA AND CANADA. Argosy’s are everywhere here in Australia. The plus for them is the room inside the cab and turning circle, and you can fit a 34 pallet B Double behind them and not get harassed by transport department. Down side is inside the cabin falls apart on our roads, the fold out stairs shit themselves after a few years and the cables for the gear stick need replacing regularly. Personally I hated them, the drivers seat is uncomfortable and pissed me off, all the rattling inside the cab and especially the dash.

The only thing I hated about that truck, was having to jack up the cab to put oil or anything else in it. Ohh yeah it would eat up Goodyear steering tires, like they were second hand recaps! However that was My own fault, for towing such heavy equipment with it. Good video Bruce thanks for sharing. Ohh yeah had a Mack with the twin shifter in it, I couldn't stand that freaking truck around town, but it was nice on the interstate. They have tried mandating front under ride guards that haven't been designed. But have not gotten far on side under ride, mostly because of the trailer length issues. The standard 53 foot North American trailer is longer than most common Euro trailers, and under ride guards are too likely to high ball it on RR crossings, backing into trunk docks, etc. If it is high enough to not catch in those kind of situations, then it was determined that it would be unlikely for cycles and pedestrians to be properly protected.
      Finally, if all of that is somehow figured out to work, all current trailers would have to be replaced or completely rebuilt because they are not structured in a way to have under ride guards securely mounted in a meaningful way, ie. actually work, without changing the frame of the trailer.

    It's actually not European. What most people don't realize is that freightliner produced cabovers all the way until 2019 with the Argosy ( witch is that truck a first gen model 110) . The argosy was produced from 1999-2019. The newer gen ( witch came out in 2010) look a little different with a larger grill. You don't see to many argosy unfortunately. If I recall, before the blockade, you could take, as it’s originally intended, a 57’ trailer, hook it to the Argosy Cabover and come out as equal length to their Century class conventional stock dimensions with a 53’ trailer bumper to bumper. It was mainly for loads that would mostly cube out before they gross out. Say empty beverage cans cubing out the full interior volume but not over 45,000 pounds. No benefit with wasted space with a load of paper rolls as you could waste from the 40 foot line with 17 feet of empty space. So as it was the only manufactured truck that could pull a 57’ trailer a fleet would have issues if in a mixed fleet, no Argosy was available as other trucks made combo too long.
    So I think the blockade was all the states on I-35 from Canada to Mexico that outlawed it on all their roads statewide. This prevented coast to coast hauling and forced the 57’ units to be blocked in as east coast or west coast short haulers. So with those restrictions and lack of high volume of light high cube loads, that killed the 57’ trailer and the Argosy was relegated to pole hauling where they do real well from what I heard. I see it as a truck ahead of its time that came too late. As for cab overs in America, very advanced. Had it came in the deregulation days, doubt we would have many conventional today. Entering the market the way it did, made it too late to change fleets minds after the 57’ debacle.

There were 4 generations of the Argosy, though North America only got 3(1st, 2nd, and 4th), the last glider(which was the only way to get one after 2008) rolled off the line in October 2017, the last cab for North America came off the line December of that year. I know the owner of the last cab, he has basically built a new truck under the cab, and just transplanted the powertrain onto new frame rails, cross members, and the new cab and bumper.

I drove one on their Budweiser Dedicated acct. 5'9 240lbs ya had to lift ya butt of the bunk to flip over.. if ya had a passenger with ya ..ya spent the whole sleep or lack of in Spoon position.. but ya could haul 45-48k depending the trailer so it made up for the cab being so light.

    I had a hard time finding the stick for that Argosy. I saw a clutch, but no stick! Oops! It's on the dash! Very nice. The last Freightliner cabover I drove had the stick up on the Dog House. A little short sports car shifter stirring a 15 speed transmission. Loved that truck! Most people don't know how to drive a 15 speed properly, so most of them got destroyed and they quit making them.

    Cabovers are more common in Europe because of the many small towns with narrow roads.

    There is a 2000 Freightliner Argosy class for sale in the truck paper. I would call it a mint barn find if you're still interested in buying one like E.T.I's

    I started driving back in the day on Freightliner FLBs and International 9670/9700/9800s. None of them were close to the Argosy, and none as comfortable as a conventional. Great turn radius in cities, terrible ride for long haul. Once the Century came out, trucking companies bought 'em in droves to try to keep the drivers happy. Schneider and JB Hunt alone had thousands of International/Navistar cabovers and sent them south to Mexico - used to see them in Laredo when I first got my brand new Century with MS Carriers.
