I feel like the title kind of reflects a feeling of being really sensitive and empathic in a rough world, and just needing to go off and be away from that, alone. I don't see it really as it being about people being mean or awful, but for me, about just feeling that way sometimes as an empath, just feeling all the hurt in the world too much. Das Volk means people, or the people, in German.
