CK: “You want my opinion, it’s an excavator, it digs dirt, it does things like that” Your eloquence in your review of this machine is unmatched, my friend LOL!
The fact that they want an honest opinion and are willing to post the good with the bad when they give us the sneak peeks of your videos says a lot about Hyundai Construction Equipment. The only negatives you have about that machine are options that you could easily change were you to ever buy one of your own and not a fault of Hyundai’s design. Rubber tracks may have been useful in a couple jobs you did but 95% of your work is soft or wet ground where steel tracks and grousers work best. As for us the viewers, I’m sure we all appreciate your honest opinion and the fact you’re not willing to promote something just because someone asks you too or something that you don’t feel you have a valid use for.
Awesome Mike all I can say is that these guys have a lot of respect for you, you have been honest with your thoughts and that's what counts, thanks for doing these videos I'm sure that there is a lot of operators out there that have followed these videos special thanks too Hyundai for making this possible.
I'M JUST A HERMIT WITH A INTERNET CONNECTION, I USED TO DO A LOT OF CONSTRUCTION, BOTTOM LINE I'M DISABLED NOW, I LOVE WATCHIN THIS KINDA STUFF WHETHER ITS WORKIN ON ITOR RUNNIN IT, THANX FOR TAKIN US ALONG FOR THE RIDE
There is nothing better than honest opinions and comparisons really enjoy that you use whats best in your situation and not always brand specific. Stay safe
Thank you Dirt for always posting so many awesome videos! It’s also fun to watch someone doing something that they seem to love doing, and having fun while doing it!!! Also thanks for the clean language!!!
The dealership is key to whatever piece of equipment you buy. Yes they all have their own little operator friendly features but like Kleeman said " it's an excavator it digs dirt and does things like that." No matter what brand you choose to buy the dealership is a key factor. It really comes down to parts, service, and the quality of people working there. Any salesman can tell you what you want to hear to get your business but a good salesman will go above and beyond to keep your business. The fact that you didn't buy their brand and haven't spent a dime and they still gave you a demo machine and reached out to Kleeman speaks volumes. I enjoy listening to your opinion and comparisons of the machines and apparently it means a lot to those guys too. Thanks for the videos.
That Hyundai 145 seems like a nice size unit for allot of different tasks . Easy to move and mobilize for smaller jobs and big enough to still take out trees & move some dirt . Rubber tracks make it a great machine when transitioning between pavement and dirt . What I like about the tracks is they have steel rail chain with the rubber pads bolted on . Looking Good !
I like you love the level on the display, zero clearance and the rubber tracks all add to a great machine for the smaller contractor ! I almost forgot the blade adds to it also.
June 6 and still wearing a jacket. It is like 97 degrees here in Texas now. After being wet and mud everywhere all spring we will be choking on dust in a few more weeks if not sooner. I like Cap'n s position " hey it is a machine. It works. But the support is where it is at".
I like your new Hyundai but I also like the 304 CAT. I do have a 305 CAT and I love it it works great for me being a newbie on this machine I'm getting the hang of it.
The was any dealer treats their customers is paramount to the success of that dealership. A customers perception of the daily operation of any business will be the failure or success of that business. Appreciate your critique of that Hyundai
Bloody great review. Opinions from 2 opperations with EXPERIENCE is pricless in my book. But I think you 2 & letsdig could opperate any machine and make it look like ballet. Those of us who have been in this industry or have an interest here are bleesed, there are soo many good operators on youtube now. Glad your one of them.
It looks like this was a win, win, win for everyone and I hope it can happen again. It seems to me is the biggest factor to consider might be the rubber tracks vs. the steel. There will always be times when you might have to settle for second best for a machine. There probably isn’t a machine out there that can do everything the best. Nice video.
my thought is, dealers are the key, i havent purchased an excavator but i did by a mid/small tractor(38 hp) the kubota dealer wanted me to buy a bx 23 or 25 and discouraged everything else, the JD dealer said they didnt have time to talk to me to go over machines. the kioti dealer was good and the machines were nice, the new hollland/massey dealer delivered the tractor i was interested in to my house for a week to use. the dealership has since sold but its still the same people at the shop. being able to use a machine in real use was the deciding factor. one of the techs lives the next town over and he found out i blew a steering hose he swung by and helped me change it no charge(he was off the clock) i wanted a yanmar but the only dealer was 2+ hour drive and i didnt want that. now they have a sop within eye sight of my house :( great video if i were to buy one those (volvo and hyundai) would be 2 i would look seriously at. maybe after i purchase my new property i want to do as much of the work as possible myself. i only have 40 or 50 hours on a mini but once i learned excavators are just real life video games it was easy peasy, cleared the cover of my septic tank in the middle of winter with 0 dirt in the tank channels like yours and lets dig serve a good purpose besides just entertainment
it has been good to get opinions from regular users, for the first time i am renting a Hyundai mini ex because of these videos, being i rent a lot, i looked for one, but i have to say i am not renting from a dealer or a big rental company Hyundai just not available here for rent, i am renting from an owner, i have it for little over a week, and i have to say, i am very disappointed in this Hyundai, it only has 1155 hours on it, and i find it a struggle to operate, i stripped sod off to get top soil, i have a 3 foot high mixed wind row of chunks of sod and dirt, i place the bucket half the depth of the bucket and pull in on the stick boom, soon as it hits the soft pile it stop it just dont have any power, so digging in red clay is a real work out to get it to dig, i normally rent a cat 301 and doing the same thinf will lift it up on to one track ad not slow down, when i am paying $1250 fr 5 days plus float cost i want it to dig with power to spare, and move fast, this thing moves so slow ,,,, as this Hyundai 35z-9 is a 8200 Lb machine with 1155 hours on it, to heavy for my 7000 Lb trailer, the cat 301 is a 6700Lb machine and i can move that with my trailer, both units have a 24" wide bucket, i am doing videos on this unit to show the lack of power big time, i hope this makes seance, every time i type this out other text gets removed, i dont know why, i have had to re do it, fix it many times, only nice thing about this Hyundai is a simple turn of a valve and you have JD or excavator controls
Mike I have said before , a machine purchase is based on parts availability and dealer support. Today I think most machines are pretty equal. It comes down to which machine fits into what you need to do with it and budget As always good luck.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinions. Always nice to hear a truly impartial review on something. I’m not qualified to have anything more than a distant opinion but both look to be excellent machines and it seems to come down to dealer service which is a wild card everyone’s mileage may vary, and taste. In a perfect world it would likely be great to have one of each, but that’s not reality for most of us. You definitely showed that it is a quality and sound machine and anyone shopping for one should be able to use your reviews as a guide to determine which would be a better fit for their individual situation. You are a well balanced reviewer and I would expect more people would like to put their equipment in your hands to receive a fair and balanced review and help get their products into the hands of people looking for them. Great job on the series of videos, stay safe, wishing you and your family the best.
I can't believe you haven't bought that Hyundai yet. That is one sweet machine. If there was a way to make quick change tracks on a excavator like changing a tire then the 120 would be perfect. Jerry is the man on the 850 and you make track ho work look like it's an extension of your hands. Great videos sir.
Great comparison video. I don't have any seat time in a Hyundai, but did have in a Volvo many years ago, and back then they were clunky and slow. Always hated running that machine for some reason. But like you stated, a relationship with a dealer is hands down the best selling point of a piece of equipment. Around here it is either JD or Cat. And neither of the dealers are any fun to work with, always seems like you are bothering them when you enter their building.
Thanks for all of the reviews Mike, and what Kleeman said about the way the dealers treat you is so true! I've always been a Cat man because of their reliability but mostly for their dealer parts networking of same or next day parts. I'm definitely thumbing over looking at Hyundai just from your review videos and you and I have a lot of the same says of thinking. I'm not sure how the dealers here in Southeast Idaho are going to be but I'm definitely willing to hear them out. Ya I'd definitely have to have a different thumb, that one almost looks like a mechanical thumb converted to a hydraulic thumb. The only way to go on a thumb in my own opinion is a progressive link thumb. Thanks for the videos Mike!
I hadn't paid attention before but the tracks on the Hyundai are much narrower than the Volvo. I'm sure thats a function of the rubber tracks but did you feel that it would change the stability ("float") of the machine to have wider tracks like the Volvo? Thanks for taking the time to make these videos, thanks to Hyundai and thanks to Reco!
Some folks talk about how hard it is comparing apples to oranges...but, I think the harder task is to compare apples to apples. I like Granny Smiths for pies... however there is no way I’m gonna buy a bag of them for my lunch bag. For eating, my all time favorite is Winesaps... but, in pies they turn to mush. Now, that’s just me. I’m pretty sure there are Granny Smith eaters out there and Winesap bakers too. What is the same for all of us is... serving our needs or preferences. The availability locally makes the difference between having the apple you want when you want it or settling for something a bit less. As a 35 year quality manager I always thought about it like this: “QUALITY IS LIKE BUYING OATS. IF YOU WANT NICE FRESH OATS YOU MUST PAY A FAIR PRICE. HOWEVER, IF YOU CAN BE SATISFIED WITH OATS THAT HAVE BEEN THROUGH THE HORSE ALREADY, THEY CAN BE HAD FOR A LITTLE LESS.” I hate to settle for Service Quality that’s been through the horse!!!
Hyundai and their sister company Kia for cars appear to have a very good customer appreciation here in Australia compared to many others so I'm not surprised they also tick that box with their construction equipment. They know how to foster satisfied repeat customers which is worth significant value when choosing what to buy.
I think some of the companies are learning that letting people like you demo a machine out in real world conditions is better for sales than making their own advertising. If Hyundai sells only one more machine because someone saw your video and heard what you really thought about it, that's just good marketing. Same for the dealer, if it brings in one sale or maybe gets a few people to rent a machine to try it out for themselves then letting you demo this machine was worth it. If you treat someone good they will tell 10 people, treat them poorly and they will tell 100 people. And it might work the other way for you as well, the people at the dealer will see how well you took care of the machine, your honest thoughts on the machine and might suggest your business to someone who needs some work done. Even if its only one job, its one more than you might have gotten.
Nice recap of all the Hyundai jobs and overview of the performance differences Mike. I appreciate the time and effort you put into making these. I was personally hoping you would choose the Hyundai when you were shopping around, but I understand why you went with Volvo. The Hyundai looks like a nice tool to have in the fleet. I hope you have more opportunity to work with them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Keep up the good work. Love the camera angles and commentary. Cheers DP!
Good videos Mike, Having a good dealer relationships is the key to business for customers and dealers. Unfortunately the way big businesses have went in the last 25 years it makes it extremely hard to have that one on one relationship most of the time. (My opinion) Usually the bigger dealers push sales, parts, service personnel to the breaking point then the employee leave the dealership and also its really hard to find employees that honestly want to put effort into building that relationship with customers. My hats off to Hyundai and RECO equipment Tyler & Adam for trying to change that , there are still a few people out there take an interest and pride in there work. Not just there to collect a check
I remember when thumb attachments first came out. They were stationary and flimsy. We had a cat. You could twist and break the thumb so easy it was a pain. Now they are so useful in every day use
Hyundai is pronounced Hi un dee ! Back in the early 1980's I worked for a company that built Ion Implanters for Hyundai. I was the Quality Assurance Inspector for the job and was always corrected by their engineers on way to pronounce it. I was also the 1st American to drive one of their cars on American roads! It was a piece of junk but I didn't tell them that! Best Regards, Jay
Great size machine! I wouldn’t be afraid of any machine if you have good dealer support. Surprisingly for me my Cat dealer Foley inc and my salesman Marty are the best. I’m smalltime and they treat me the same as the big guys. It’s all in the people and it sounds like you have found some good people at Hyundai. You are helping them by your videos I would never have looked twice at them if it weren’t for you. Thanks Mike 👍🏻
I like operating any excavator or equipment. When new tight an right sweet! Which machine will wear the best and longest before major component failure. Owner/operators like yourself usually do maintenance timely which helps. Larger outfits will sometimes extend schedules. Some are strict about it, seen both. Hired operators of different skill levels affect condition of machines. A floppy bucket is usually where costly repairs start. Day in day out with hired operators imho the Hyundai is vulnerable to fail sooner.
Great video! Watching it while I drink my coffee this morning. You as a owner/ operator should know what works or doesn't work for you. Love every video you put out for viewing.👍😀
We have a Hyundai dealer 70 miles west and a Volvo dealer 13 miles east. The interesting thing about the Hyundai dealer is, that is where Cole The Corn Star got his from. We do plan on stopping by the Hyundai dealer this summer and look at a R35Z
Good video again you got that right you always comment me back that is because you care about people you know what i thank about your videos keep them coming be safe my friend
If the hitches were changed, would your loaded dump truck tow your loaded dump trailer? If so, would it ever be practical to do so instead of using your Mack & dump trailer combo?
Awesome video I enjoy Most all of your content always keep the audience engaged your A very likeable dude awesome business man Glad to see Somebody do good.Always praying for you and your family For continue success.
I would love to see a shoot out of all the big company's. I CV currently run a a cat 316 and it is so tippy it can get your nerves up really quick. We also have a cat 313 and it is so much better. It makes me wonder if someone was asleep at the drawing board.
Extremely interesting opinions there. That bench out where the Captain was working; what was its position in the last ice age? Would that mix perhaps be glacial till? Thanks as always for an interesting and impeccably produced vijayo.
I would be great if you could use some other new machines as well, from other producers. Might be great to compare the new generations. Of course, the question would be if you level the comparison on price or specs.
What about a 60 to 80 hp mini excavator I have a case looking to buy a newer one this year it’s a ok Machine what would think to buy in this size . The yanmar dealer here has quoted me the best deal but I have experienced with yanmar
Leave it to the good Captain to keep it real.......at a suggested retail price of $127k for a new machine it BETTER move dirt and glide like on a velvet pillow, in time it will need servicing and the dealer makes all the difference...along with the warranty and payments.........😁😁😎😎
Lol, 1st comments are brilliant..... It may be dangerous, it may not be the best idea I've ever had to let Kleeman loose on this 😂😂😂...... You're getting a reputation Captain 😂😂😂
@@DirtPerfect it's a used off lease machine, 1000 hrs, but the dealer was great to work with. Honestly I wasnt really thinking Hyundai until you started talking about them.
comming from a volvo guy, i have to admit if i would have to change to anything else it would be hyundai. Although i don't think theyre big machines 30ton and + can compete with volvo.
Same class machinery yet the Volvo looks so much bigger when you have them working together. How would you compare the size of the cab? Looks like a lot more leg room in the Volvo. Are you considering buying the Hyundai?
Good video, very informative. Do you see any production difference in the 2 machines? How close are the purchase prices on the two? Having a dealer relationship is a wonderful thing, even though you do 99% of your repairs it's still very important. Stay safe Mike and keep share the experiences.
Given the similarities and differences between the two hoes, and disregarding dealer support and the fact that you already own one, but not the other, which machine is the best fit for ALL the work you do, and what portion of ALL that work would be made harder by owning one vs the other. And, what do you base that decision on: digging depth, transportation size, tail swing, rubber vs steel tracks, feel of the seat, or something else? (I think I know what you'll say, but I could be wrong.........)
Hyundaii like sunday. I had a new car sales man tell me that one time when j asked him how to pronounce hyundaii. He said hyundaii like sunday. And of course the fella was korean .
But I lose break out force have more weight on the end of the boom several more moving parts and cost is as much as my mini excavator move the machine and using the blade is cheep and affective and I would have to buy all new buckets if all I did was grading work would have one for sure but for most jobs I do don’t see a huge advantage to if for the cost and losses
Dirt Perfect I don’t mean a rotating one, just a tilting one, In my opinion the breakout force isn’t enough to be missed nor is the weight noticeable, they’re like $11,900 USD and all your buckets will still fit
CK: “You want my opinion, it’s an excavator, it digs dirt, it does things like that”

Thanks
That Hyundai looks like it's a lovely machine, Mike. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it, and a big shout out to Hyundai and Reco.
Thanks for watching
Good videos Mike, Having a good dealer relationships is the key to business for customers and dealers. Unfortunately the way big businesses have went in the last 25 years it makes it extremely hard to have that one on one relationship most of the time. (My opinion) Usually the bigger dealers push sales, parts, service personnel to the breaking point then the employee leave the dealership and also its really hard to find employees that honestly want to put effort into building that relationship with customers.
The Capt. hit on the head about dealer support! Great video Mike always interesting to see you compare
Yup tony
Great size machine! I wouldn’t be afraid of any machine if you have good dealer support. Surprisingly for me my Cat dealer Foley inc and my salesman Marty are the best. I’m smalltime and they treat me the same as the big guys. It’s all in the people and it sounds like you have found some good people at Hyundai. You are helping them by your videos I would never have looked twice at them if it weren’t for you. Thanks Mike 👍🏻
Thanks and I agree
I like operating any excavator or equipment. When new tight an right sweet!
Which machine will wear the best and longest before major component failure. Owner/operators like yourself usually do maintenance timely which helps. Larger outfits will sometimes extend schedules. Some are strict about it, seen both.
Hired operators of different skill levels affect condition of machines.
A floppy bucket is usually where costly repairs start. Day in day out with hired operators imho the Hyundai is vulnerable to fail sooner.
Stay tuned talk about that
Great video! Watching it while I drink my coffee this morning. You as a owner/ operator should know what works or doesn't work for you. Love every video you put out for viewing.👍😀
Thanks
We have a Hyundai dealer 70 miles west and a Volvo dealer 13 miles east.
The interesting thing about the Hyundai dealer is, that is where Cole The Corn Star got his from.
We do plan on stopping by the Hyundai dealer this summer and look at a R35Z
Interesting
Good video again you got that right you always comment me back that is because you care about people you know what i thank about your videos keep them coming be safe my friend
Thanks buddy
Dirt Perfect You are very welcome you deserve it my friend good video be safe out in this crazy world
If the hitches were changed, would your loaded dump truck tow your loaded dump trailer?
If so, would it ever be practical to do so instead of using your Mack & dump trailer combo?
Awesome video I enjoy Most all of your content always keep the audience engaged your A very likeable dude awesome business man Glad to see Somebody do good.Always praying for you and your family For continue success.
Thanks James appreciate that
A great dealer makes all the difference
Yup
The only thing I see wrong with the Hyundai is I don't have one. Good video
lol
That blade makes it nice To stable up quickly
DUELING DIGGERS the best video yet !!!!.....
Thanks
What about a 60 to 80 hp mini excavator I have a case looking to buy a newer one this year it’s a ok Machine what would think to buy in this size . The yanmar dealer here has quoted me the best deal but I have experienced with yanmar
Good 👍 job 👏 thanks for the video 📹.
Thanks
i like the rubber tracks.
Like to see Cat let you use one of there,s.
Everything in one piece at the end of the day = a good day lol, great video!
Thanks
Leave it to the good Captain to keep it real.......at a suggested retail price of $127k for a new machine it BETTER move dirt and glide like on a velvet pillow, in time it will need servicing and the dealer makes all the difference...along with the warranty and payments.........😁😁😎😎
Loved the video series enjoyed your Intel on the machines but I believe the Hyundai is slightly better for ur situation. Excellent job on the videos.
Thanks
Just watched your interview with ForConstructionPros.com. You social media presents is growing quick.
That was kinda a mess of a live feed hope you found it to be ok
Great video Mike
Thanks
Love the videos 👍 and general everyday mucking about ☺️
Thanks
I'd say the Captain could be the front man for a boy band ! Hell that boy's purrdy !
David Worsley ahhh, you’re making me blush.
Does the Hyundai do the same job as Volvo or is the Hyundai a replacement for a mini?
Better then the Volvo
Lol, 1st comments are brilliant..... It may be dangerous, it may not be the best idea I've ever had to let Kleeman loose on this 😂😂😂...... You're getting a reputation Captain 😂😂😂
👍
Another good one. 👍
Just bought a R60CR-9A myself.
Awesome
@@DirtPerfect it's a used off lease machine, 1000 hrs, but the dealer was great to work with. Honestly I wasnt really thinking Hyundai until you started talking about them.
Looking back at the time of purchase after this demo would you of spent the extra money on it Vs the volvo?
If it was set up correctly
comming from a volvo guy, i have to admit if i would have to change to anything else it would be hyundai. Although i don't think theyre big machines 30ton and + can compete with volvo.
Awesome video!
Thanks
Never know Mike, the 304 may need replacing, a Hyundai mini would be a good fit in your company
😁
Same class machinery yet the Volvo looks so much bigger when you have them working together. How would you compare the size of the cab? Looks like a lot more leg room in the Volvo. Are you considering buying the Hyundai?
Volvo is a bit bigger but both or nice
Good video, very informative. Do you see any production difference in the 2 machines? How close are the purchase prices on the two? Having a dealer relationship is a wonderful thing, even though you do 99% of your repairs it's still very important. Stay safe Mike and keep share the experiences.
No not really and all depends on options
Great video mic
Thanks
loved the review
Thanks
When is the next live feed?
Maybe tomorrow
I need a Test run with one in my back yard in florida
good video
Thanks
Sunday Monday Hyundai... not Hawnday. Lol. Love the videos.
Thanks
Given the similarities and differences between the two hoes, and disregarding dealer support and the fact that you already own one, but not the other, which machine is the best fit for ALL the work you do, and what portion of ALL that work would be made harder by owning one vs the other. And, what do you base that decision on: digging depth, transportation size, tail swing, rubber vs steel tracks, feel of the seat, or something else? (I think I know what you'll say, but I could be wrong.........)
Stay tuned answer lot of them ? In a upcoming video
Mr. Dirt do you still have the Volvo ? I live close to where you purchased it.
Yes
where do you get your new slip on boots?
Arait
Would you swap your Volvo with a Hyundai, based on what you have experienced so far?
If it was set up correctly
Hyundaii like sunday. I had a new car sales man tell me that one time when j asked him how to pronounce hyundaii. He said hyundaii like sunday. And of course the fella was korean .
The last video clip is that a video thats up coming
Yup
To me dealer support is very big to me. Dealer support will sell the machine wicker than the machine it's self for me.
Yup
Kleeman don’t destroy the mirrors on the truck or excavator lol
😜
I was about to ask if it still has all its mirrors. Just kidding kleenan. Go gettem tiger.
Are you sure that the opening music is dramatic enough ?
No
That is the A-Team preparing for battle music lol. Does anyone remember the show the A-Team!
@@fulltiltgrading8366
Happy days.....😉
It is repeated over on this side of the pond too 💪🇬🇧
Alex Osborne 👍🏻
you go dad mom want a new car
A picture is worth a 1000 words in the capt case 10,000 words
Lol
You really ought to get yourself a tilt hitch
Why
Dirt Perfect then you don’t have to reposition yourself or prop yourself up with your blade to cut level/slopes
Does that mean you are going to put a blade on the Volvo?
Watch videos closely!
There already is a blade on the Volvo.
@@digndurt6936 lol
No just use the one on it
@@DirtPerfect lol
a machine is only as good as its maintenance by the user/owner, i've seen dozens of machines neglected and scrapped after a years use...
That’s all of them 🤷♂️
