  • Bullied outcasts hit the textbooks alongside teen mums bouncing babies, while in the next classroom, youths facing 'juvie' learn about sex in prison. Is this Australia's most unique school?
Macleay Vocational College in Kempsey on New South Wales’ mid-north coast caters for students aged 14 upwards.
The school provides education to students previously labelled as being on their “last chance”, to give them a place to belong and make something of themselves.
Behind it all is principal Mark Morrison, who has been called “inspirational” for the way he has meshed himself in the low socio-economic community and made real change to the area and its young people.

I can't believe it took me a year and a half to finally watch this, i was a student of MVC and i graduated dux from the class of 2019. (i was the dumbass with the violet hair on the far right of the graduation photo. Watching back on this makes me truly miss the family i was a part of and the home that Mark gave me. Mark is my greatest father figure and a man i am proud to say if i turn out the quarter of the man he is, then i can hang my head high and be proud of who i am. Dion was one of my best friends, i sort of mentored him through most of year 12, i tried my best to help him succeed in school. In return he taught me that every day is a good day as long as you remember to smile. He is the greatest inspiration i will ever find in life and i will always be mourning for the happiest person i've ever met.

Good for you. Keep on the straight path and life will be yours. I've been around a lot of bad things and bad people growing up and the ones that couldn't change or went back to their old ways ended up with nothing, in jail or dead. I've buried too many close friends over poor choices. I literally just seen one of my best friends from about 10 years ago drunk and begging on the side of the road yesterday. That hit me pretty hard. I picked him up, fed him, gave him 50 bucks and a hug and said goodbye. I would've brought him home but I can't have that around my wife and 3 children. Good luck too you.

My High School Janitor saved my life. I was 17 and suicidal. He overheard me confiding in a friend, that i wished my own demise. He reported to School authorities but nothing was done. So he stepped into my life and became the light I needed to fight off the darkest hours.
I'm now 43 years old and he and his wife are God parents to my children. I am eternally grateful.

@@meera2531 there is one more problem with Indian schools other than the teachers not being very "devoted". The parents themselves are not serious about their children's studies many times. My mum is a middle school teacher in a very rural village in Jharkhand. She struggled to give something back to them and was so proud when 10 of her students could read and understand English sentences. And the villagers respect her the most of all the teachers. But then that was the limit. They moved classes, their parents would take them to fields for agriculture and businesses and all the training was lost. You have to go home and study what was taught at school, that is never the case in that village. Govt pays for books, food, gives stipends for attending school! And it is very strictly audited (at least in Jharkhand) but if students themselves are not interested, nothing will change.

Now I'm trying to reverse the struggles we now face because I didn't finish school and never got the qualifications I needed to give my children a better life. Sometimes you can't turn that around. I go to a place like this now Victoria and graduate in December, great people and I’ve found it very helpful
I started there when I dropped out of traditional schooling due to crippling anxiety and my eating disorders. I have been there since I was 13. I consider myself very lucky to have gotten a place when I needed it.

I think it is the education system designers, i.e. those who make public policy decisions, should be asked to watch this. There are so many people out there just wanting to compete without knowing the essence of education, transforming people's lives, mentally, physically and spiritually.

They’re talking about the kids early on in the video where Dion said that they beat him up to the point that he had a stroke, died and was revived before being sent to this school. They’re saying that those kids who beat him so badly that he died and had to be revived should be in prison for attempted murder.
