      Three possibilities spring to mind: a rose with rosehips after flowering has finished; an espaliered pomegranate with immature fruit; a pyrocantha or cotoneaster japonica: any of these might be grown up a trellis in New Zealand.

      Mitre 10 New Zealand , thanks , we cut a passion fruit off our tree that was slightly purple and it had nothing inside it, do we have to wait until they fall or should they have fruit inside? Thanks

    • @mitre10nz
      @mitre10nz  4 года назад +3

      Yep, you'll want to give attached purple fruit (make sure they're fully purple before picking) a gentle twist when picking them from the vine - they're edible, but won't be as sweet. The ripest fruits will simply drop off the vine, so keep the area under your plant clear to facilitate finding the fruit. ^Charlie

    • @mitre10nz
      @mitre10nz  2 года назад

      Hey Austin, passionfruit does have a deep taproot, which needs to be part of any transplant for the best outcome. Are you planting out from the container you purchased it in, or transplanting from elsewhere? ^Meg

    How many months does it take to fruit?

    • @mitre10nz
      @mitre10nz  3 года назад

      Hi Amarquaye, your first fruit should appear around six to eight months after planting. The fruit ripen from mid-summer onwards. Passionfruit are ripe when the skin turns purple and fruit fall to the ground. ^Cam
