@@GreenyTravels if you do near the receptionist there is a dome in the ceiling. If you talk into it you will here a echo. It is so cool! A business acquaintance told me about it. The rooms there are more like colonel 1800s. Bro go their website and look at the photos. One of the best hotels I have stayed in terms of style. I sleep hot so the AC was a bit weak for me.

Make sure you eat char koy tao and laksa while you are there. There is also a snake temple right near the airport. I think I have seen everything on the that island

If you’ve got grandkids… go to the upside down house… the pictures are good fun.
I bit the bullit and went in alone !
I like the odd temple but I did this for the crack and the pictures for my granddaughter.
But because I was alone the guide jumped the queue.
Just go to the heads before you get to the house.
If you ever get up the Penang hill …. get a buggie at the restaurant level or maybe just below. I walked the trail up but it gets dark quick!
    I’ll be watching …. Enjoy

I stayed in georgetown for 3 nights just before the end of dec. I had a hard time finding decent pork and beef in that area. and what little beef I found were australian beef. been used to the US beef, australian beef is just too tough for me. the traffic in that area is bad and I didn't see any readily available public transit system like the bts and mrt in bangkok. aside from these things, I think it would be a pleasant area to live in. I want to go back in the future and check out the other 3 sides of the island to see if those areas are any better.

i hope that you had a couple samosas from the vendor near kapitan in little india. they are not good for you but they taste incredible. love indian food but not the sweets. kapitan is a nice place to people and have some naan. right now for some strange reason penang has a shortage of shrimp and corn. same holds for pork. Lived there for 5 great years. It is a great place to live but butter means margarine and milk means condensed milk. Funny, I go to thailand to fix up my unit and you go to my neck of the woods. Too much construction planned in penang. bang bang bang. I live in tanjong bungah. only good beaches are in langkawi. Grab prices can fluctuate by 200 based on lunchtime and rush hour.. Enjoy your trip.

Grab is not cheap in Malaysia. It's priced normally. It's just that you're used to Grab prices in Thailand. Very few people realize this but Grab is 100% controlled by the Thai taxi mafia which is why prices are (and have been for several years) higher than taxis in many cases. Grab pricing was good when Uber was competing in Thailand close to 10 years ago, but Uber was "bought out" by Grab in order to preserve Thailand's long tradition of noncompetitive business practices. Thailand's various mafias run much of the country. Malaysia is much more advanced than Thailand and has better infrastructure. Medical in Malaysia is also much better. Malaysians are warm, welcoming and genuine. It's a great option for expat living. In my view, Thailand has had its run and is now in the back seat as far as expat destinations.

I am a local. I see many foreigners from thailand escaping the smog between january and march and enter malaysia. To be honest malaysia and indonesia too have burning season. Usually after march until june or july. It is different compared to indochina. Crop burning is the cheapest method to clear land. I asked why they burned it.
    1. To eliminate pest
    2. To fertilise the soil for next planting season
But the air quality suffer of course.
