To anyone planning to one day include cruising as part of their life: We have been extremely fortunate to be welcomed by Paul and Sheryl as guests on this sail away week. Words cannot express our deep gratitude for this life changing experience, for everything we have learned and memories that will be with us for the rest of our lives. Having watched, or more precisely devoured all videos form all seasons over and over again has been and continues to be a catalysts for beautiful dreams to keep one warm even on a cold Canadian winter night. Experiencing a sail away week with Paul and Sheryl should be in our opinion very high on the bucket list of any cruising enthusiast. Sailing and exploring with our role-models was infinitely better than we dared dream and we now feel permanently inspired to make cruising a major ingredient in the recipe of our future plans. To Paul and Sheryl: From the bottom of our hearts, Thank you! Thank you for your very warm welcome and having made us feel at home, we miss you and hope to see you again. With all our love, Lucian and Lana
Thanks so much for your kind words, Lucian & Lana! It was indeed a pleasure having you aboard S/Y Distant Shores III and you know we wish you the very best with your cruising plans. We also thank you for the incredible meals you prepared while on board! Now we are spoiled! It was a great cruise and we are very happy that we could share our cruising life with you both. XOXO Paul & Sheryl
I sure hope you've received many awards for your videos. I love the combination of sea, people and communities and a bit of history! You and your wife are perfectly complimentary. Rare indeed...
Hi guy's. We are currently sitting at anchor just outside Cascais, Lisbon. We had a great run down from Peniche. Light winds from the North until you round the headland and cape at Cabo Raso. Then wind went from F2 to F6! In same direction. It's been much the same on these last legs with very gentle Northerly's until the headlands. Reefing in anticipation makes good sense. We would love to do longer passages with more night sailing when things seem to calm down. But, we have two pooches with us and it is only fair that we try to make landfall every night. Current weather pattern looks like strong North Westerly's from midday onwards so we will stay at anchor and explore some of the interesting history of this part of the Portuguese coast that we may have missed had we rushed on. Good to see the new boat is performing well. Sail safe, Ant & Cid xx
First time I’ve seen a starry sky from a boat in a sailing video. Very impressive! I’m a self taught amateur celestial navigator and enjoy looking at the heavens. Perhaps you could show more in the future. Thanks.
That fish market looks great! Thanks for posting such great content on youtube. We just started our full time travel adventure and related youtube channel this year and really appreciate the chance to enjoy and learn from your experiences!
Ruby Rose - I thought you two were a thousand miles from land😉. I love seeing other cruisers support each other on their respective solo albums media. Good on ‘ya.
Just discover your chanel, very nice, on the top with yours educationals comments on sailing, and on visiting such nices places, and over all, i love this boat :), i love pilot house sailboat because ... you can see, it s not like living on a basement, i love the fact that you can beach that boat, i love the size of it, this is a perfect blue water sailing ship, you have very good taste, that boat is so ........ :)
Nice trip! Just came back from a holiday om Sintra, so nice to see these familiair places in this video. Keep up the good work with these enjoyable video's.
Wishing you guys many more nights, and days, of sailing! We feel that we will meet you in the South Pacific at some point. And then you will have to be our dinner guests.
I don't understand how Sheryl keeps every hair in place.....always looking as though she just stepped out of a beauty parlor. That is a beautiful shot of your boat at 0:33 Paul. 400 nights at sea or 1.1 years in 29 years of cruising.....I would have guessed more.
400 nights?!?! Congratulations. Thanks for sharing such quality with the world while doing it too👍. And a shout to the Wynns...I wonder if they realize that’s the equivalent of a rookie getting a complement from the seasoned pro. (I’m sure they do😉).
Thanks SOOO MUCH for the great footage. Hope the trip to the Canaries was good for You. I've put a credit in for your help with the shoot. We very much appreciate it.
Paul & Sheryl - thank you for sharing your remarkable life at sea. We loved this episode - capturing lighthouses working at night so clearly was brilliant, but the whole video was great. The quality of your footage is outstanding - even uploaded to RUclips - the original footage must be truly sensational. One question though - how do you stay safe sailing short-handed overnight? I assume you have solo watches - or do you take crew with you these days? Are there any special precautions you take? Cheers, Gavin & Amanda
Another episode of great visual footage!!! Thanks a lot for sharing. One question that I can‘t help to keep popping into my mind is how you make a living and especially are able to fund such a beautiful boat like Distant Shores III One can get quite jealous because of it 😂 however you guys definitely deserve it!! 😀
Your sail, is that the EPEX sail from elvatroem.? It looks pretty good and I was close to order one for our boat, but decided to go with north sails 3di Nordac instead. Are you satisfied with sail.?
Noticed you have those new sails that look more like racing sails. Are these ones you have good for long term cruising? Are they lighter? Do they take up less space in the furling mast?
Subscribed!!! Excellent channel, can you do a video about the twin pole rig? Also, what are the costs to dock in Portugal, Spain, and the Mediterranean?
@@DistantShoresTV Excellent work, my favorite new channel, I really admire you all! I hope to travel to the many, if not all of the same places I see in your videos. Considering I live in Tampa Bay FL., I hope to get my sea legs. I have been looking at a lot of nice Gulets, and know they are sailed heavily in the Mediterranean. What are your thoughts on sailing one across the Atlantic and in the Caribbean? Thanks again!!! P.S. you all have the best voices ever, you should do some voice overs! Send me a message if you ever lecture here in Tampa or my hometown of Chicago, Cheers!
We're just going in as far as Palma then back to Gibraltar and prepare her for the Transatlantic in November. We're stopping all along the Spanish coast, visiting Espalmador and Ibiza en route.
Distant Shores TV your welcome, I am enjoying your videos & my own challenge to become a sailor!! Well of sorts anyway.😂 probably spoilt in the UK this year as we are having a great summer.
People take what we have without understanding where it comes from, just like the bio luminescence most people will never see that or understand it, but it is there it is real I wish I could enjoy the ocean more than I am able to,Thank you Jesus

400 and going strong! Thanks, as always, for putting an added smile to my day. Best regards, Dan.
It's like memory lane, I have sailed to all of those ports and loved the experience. Lagos is very special.

Another lovely video... always a pleasure.
Beautiful videography but too short. Your soothing narration especially at the beginning reminded me of Rick Steves.
Thanks Tim. We'll try for a longer one next time :-)
Fantastic journey, footage, and production.
Thanks Brad :-)
Nice Job Paul and Sheryl ....Getting closer to the Canary Islands. See you there!!!!

Ed Rosenberger I think Cheryl has that thick, naturally wavy hair that just IS.... and doesn’t require much fussing... gorgeous!

Thanks Adrian. Glad we can help :-)
I liked the night footage. But why do I have the feeling that you’re having just as much fun playing with your new toy?
Good sailing and film 👍👍👍
Thanks Paul 💕
Goodonyah guys, how is the new boat working out?
Type of engine, engine room/layout... you haven't done a video about that... coming soon?
Southerly 480/540 or Amel 50/55 for Caribbean cruising?
Subscribed!!! Excellent channel, can you do a video about the twin pole rig? Also, what are the costs to dock in Portugal, Spain, and the Mediterranean?
Thanks Robert! I'm doing a "twin pole video right now to publish tomorrow featuring our Atlantic Crossing last month!

Great video as always, but a little on the short side. Thanks for sharing! How long to you plan to stay in the Med (ports of call)?

Would love to hear more about the boat... land destinations are far less interesting than boat-tech.
