Great video,ty. I have the 2016 RDX. Same procedure. I can't believe how many times you have to refill. I did it once and I was all happy. Lol Now I realize I have a lot of work to do. Ty again.
There is a fill plug on top of the transmission if you look straight down near the mass of cylinder area you'll see a 17 mm plug and a lot of them say ATF right on the plug so you don't have to use a pump
Yep .sensitive clutch packs in tranny .my daughter's has 255k runs great I only used Honda fluids period . That red bottle has abrasives that make it shift not great
Hey how you doing Just did a 2016 RDX Yes that year could go probably to 18, I put 31/3 in, and I was a little bit over hot, I love the idea of the pump, that is an asset, eh. Qrt to qrt is a nightmare !! let alone getting four funnels to get down deep into the fill hole! 😡 thanks again for the video Great job all around . It's funny it was a year ago that I posted this that I did the first one, now I did my third one and the fluid is velvet red baby velvet
i changed trans fluid in my 2014 RDX today. I drained and measured to be 4 quarts so I put in 4 quarts. people said 3.3 quarts, but I put in what came out --. 4 quarts.
Sorry off topic do you know what fluid the 2010 rdx calls for in the transfer case and rear differential. I’m assuming the rear diff is gear oil but I’m not sure.
Thank you for the video. I'm going to be using the valvoline fluid for my mine. I bought one of these Acuras to replace my old work car (218k mile 11 accord 4cyl 5sp.) I need to get 100k mikes out of this Acura. I got the 4cyl turbo fwd. It has 118k texas miles. I've had good luck buying the higher mileage texas cars. As long as they are well cared for. I'm not familiar with these cars at all. Do these cars have transmission pans and filters? I'm used to the typical domestic truck auto transmission or manual gear boxes. Thank you for your help.
That’s a great question. The manual makes no mention of a filter? Some parts suppliers list one . One looks like it’s inside the pan as a cartridge filter. Another supplier shows an entirely different one. This is my granddaughters car, now with 180k miles and 2 yrs after this fluid change it shifts perfectly. Good luck.
@David Hartman thank you. I used a skinny funnel and refilled it via dipstick. This fluid is very thin. It poured rather fast. I poured 1/3 of a bottle and then let it gulp some air. Mine was not as black as yours. It was light red/ brown.
So how many quarts of Transmission Fluid am I gonna need? Why are you putting in 3 and then draining and then refilling again. Also how did you get transmission warm? What was the driving you did? Or you just had it on and parked?
I think I explained in the video, drained 4 qts, added 4 qts. Did this 4 times so 16 qts. You do this because there is no way to drain the entire transmission, some remains in the torque converter, etc. I drove the car about 3 miles between draining and refill and went through all the gears.
On the front of my 2011 transmission it looks like there’s a small hole that maybe a bolt would go in but don’t seem to have threads and it appears to be leaking clear fluid. New to this vehicle is this normal never seen something like this
It looks like your sprayer has a lock on the trigger, so that you don't need a clamp to hold it open. (Mine has a lock on it.) Yes it gets tiring, and so does pumping it. I was able to buy AISIN ATF-DW1 cheaper than the Valvoline. (I suspect they might be who makes it for Honda.)
Why didnt you use OEM fluid these vehicles are particular its worth it. They go 3-400,000 miles its an ACURA man c'mon treat it like one please thank you💔
Totally agree using OEM fluid, doesnt matter how many miles the RDX has. Please use OEM trans fluid or you're trans won't last.....ask me how i know this, sigh.....
We could argue OEM fluids all day long if you want. My video was intended to help others. If you are a believer in OEM fluids only, that’s your choice. In that case you should only use OEM engine oil, OEM power steering fluid, OEM brake fluid and OEM washer fluid. That’s nonsense!
Its your video say what you want but recommending anything other than Honda ATF sets up your viewers for a transmission failure risk..... Bad advice imo and I'd say there's alot of Honda/ Acura owners that would agree
@@fbike4539 If you watch the video I did NOT “recommend” any particular fluid, I simply mentioned what I used. If you think you need OEM fluids be my guest. As I state I make videos to help others, not to argue with the few people that have an agenda.
Exactly, I wouldn't gamble with Honda Transmissions or steering pumps when it comes to their fluids. maybe with another manufacturer but I wouldn't go with anything other than OEM fluids with a honda.
Where is the transmission filter located? I’ve looked and can’t find the filter. The store sent me a diagram but where it shows in diagram the starter is there.
My research has shown that Honda does not recommend replacing the transmission filter in their vehicles unless you are rebuilding a transmission. They Do not consider it a “service” item. Sounds weird compared to other cars.
Found the issue. Motor oil was dirty. I had also driven through some salty areas. Anyway I skipped an oil change one time which caused this. I will not skip an oil change again. And normally I don’t anyway.
The whole point of my video was to avoid getting to that by having to remove the battery, etc. I drained and added, drove again, drained and added, etc. Your idea would require removing the battery, etc. then reinstalling it so you can drive, then removing it again.
It’s operating perfectly! Others have questioned my use of Valvoline Max Life ATF. I believe All OEM fluids are made by major companies. But if you aren’t comfortable use the Honda fluid.
@@HandyDoc I agree with the sticker slapping lol. Just got an 08 myself. Just heard that they are sensitive, I'm all for it that's why I asked getting ready to do it also.
@@jojo32m “Sticker slapping” , that’s a new one for me! I think I get your drift. Even Valvoline Max Life is not cheap so if you do 12 qts like I think I did,it’s not cheap! I always do these videos to help folks, if I can, and the Haters come in and criticize.
Perfectly! Shifts are crisp and no problems. Folks get too hung up on OEM fluids, many are made my other manufacturers ( like Valvoline!) and rebadged as Honda or whatever.
Sometimes it's better to make it short, simple & straight to the point 😊
Great video,ty.

Dammmm friend the oem is just $40.00 (4qts) how dare you to put another fluid in a so delicate and at the same time great trans
Crazy...peace
I just do t think it matters at 160 k miles! Come on now, get real.

Disculpa bro que aceite lleva y cuantos litros?
@@ashely1537 yo fui a la agencia de Acura y pedí el aceite para el cambio de transmisión, y eso fue todo hay te dan exactamente lo que necesitas.
I got the HDX 1 gallon pump sprayer, the spray tube fits in the ditpstick tube loosely and there no need to flatten the side.
Good suggestion, thanks
Loved this. Older female. Gonna try lol

I agree, you did the right thing!
Do you still recommend this method? Has your Transmission had any issues?
No problems at all, shifts perfectly
Also use Valvoline in my RDX, shifts much smoother!!!
Thank you for your support!
I use MaxLife in all my cars (Lexus, BMW, Toyota and Honda). I think Maxlife is better fluid. It shifts smoother and have no issue even 250K miles.

Rear diff is DPSF from Acura.

My Acura makes a sound when accelerating as well as vibration. So I’m wondering if transmission fluid is bad?
