Ethan Crisp hello if you can pull your hand brake up without any resistance and it not doing anything it sounds that the cable might have broken. If the cable is ok I would strip the hand brake drum off and check the shoes clean both drum and shoes up rebuild it back together then readjust with the bolt. If your unsure on what you are doing have someone look at it for you as it is a safety critical part and is undertaken at your own risk. Hopefully soon I will be removing the hand brake drum to check my shoes/ clean them. But I need get it moted first, so I can start using it again Jtpickup
Why is it considered a safety critical part? If I do not do it correctly wouldn't it have the same effect as if I don't do anything? Or is there the possibility of messing with other components.
Ethan Crisp I class any braking components/ system safety critical items e.g if it fails it has the potential of damage and risk to life. Leaving your problem also wouldn't be the best I would definitely check the cable to see if it broken or not due to you saying it doesn't do anything at all. Then go from there. If you want to have a go yourself I would recommend a Haynes manual as it takes you through different processes step by step with pictures of what your looking for. Hope this helps a little. Jtpickup
Makes total sense. Your video helped a lot along with others and I'm gonna look into it this weekend and bring it in if it's too much for me haha. Thank you.
How do you adjust so that the handbrake lever isn't loose? Mine is very loose but just as soon as it barely clicks it is tight so I don't feel that the shoe and the drum are too far apart I feel that the cable is loose up at the top where it hooks to the lever because like I said there's lots of play but as soon as it just clicks once or twice it's tight
Hi JT Pickup! Nice video! Can I ask you what module that is on your dash with the switch and usb ports? Is that a module you bought, or is it custom made?
Tijl De Bruyne Hi the pod on my dash sadly came with the discovery when I bought it so I couldn't tell you if it was a one off or not. I would say you could probably find one on the internet with some searching. Mine has the usb sockets on it, a switch for the small light bar in the bumper and a gap where the previous owner has a sat nav fitted. Also fitted to the top of mine is a reversing camera screen. Hope that helped a little Regards
Tijl De Bruyne Just did a quick search and came up with this www.devon4x4.com/mud-pod.html I sure a detailed search of the internet you will find one that is fit for purpose. Regards
Thanks for this! no idea how to do this and now I do. Much appreciated!
Cheers JTpickup first one came across and took me from clueless to adjusted in minutes
Dave Brown glad it helped
Thanks man. This helped a lot.
Sorry, which direction did you turn the bolt clockwise to tighten it?
Thanks mate I didn't no how to do that but do now thanks
So I can yank my hand brake all the way and it doesn't do anything. Do I simply need to tighten that bolt?

I assume the handbrake is up when you adjust it right?
Hi Anthony 👋 the handbrake is off when you adjust it. What your adjusting is the gap between the hand brake shoes and the drum.
