For those confused:
The objective is to hit a clean shot to the head with the wrapped arm. The only other thing allowed is holding the opponent's unwrapped hand.
So the ref will separate once they start to frame with their arms.
That contestant was frustrated because he felt the ref wasn't separating them fairly.

Its very easy to see that Dambe fighting simulates shield and spear/sword combat by stripping it down to its most basic form. Its an honorable art to be practicing in the modern day.

What are the rules? How long is the fight? Are there different classes? Just as I was getting into it, it was over.....kinda hooked now.
RULES
- The goal in Dambe is to deliver a single blow that causes any part of the opponent's body to touch the ground.
- The dominant hand wrapped with cloth into a balled fist is used for punching, while the weaker hand is used to ward off blows. Hence, imitating the concept of the "Spear" and "Shield" respectively.
- Matches are scheduled for 3 rounds that lasts 3 minutes per round. A round ends when there is a long period of inactivity, a boxer's hand binding becomes loose, or either fighter "voluntarily breaks his fighting stance".
- Opponents are evenly matched in size. There are no weight classes and "bantamweights" can be pit against "heavyweights" in Dambe matches.
