- Rain World is a merciless work of art. I absolutely love it. I've also never raged harder at a game. If you can brave its vicious ecosystem and deadly architecture, it just might drop your jaw in awe. Are you HARDCORE ENOUGH to survive RAIN WORLD?!

A new and exciting video every day of whatever I'm playing. Some days I take a break because breaks are nice.
...This video made me realise that I want to see a documentary of Rain World's wild life.
And I have no idea what part of it did.
the film crew dies at the end because they forgot the hibernate :P
all of it did
There is someone who does an entire catalog of both the wild and plant life it's on RUclips just search it up
Hope I helped
I think you're thinking of the guy who tried to explain how the life within Rain World would function realistically.
That's not what I'm thinking of in this case.
I'm thinking more _"narrator narrating life of specific animal, and how it dies/survives"_ kinda documentary.
@@HollyfromtheHollow oh ok then sorry I couldn't help
Im so glad someone gets the true beauty of this game.
*Glares at 5/10 review scores*
@ThunderPhoenix42 game journalists suck hard at games, like they play games to review them as a profession, why do they suck ass?
@ThunderPhoenix42 the polygon review stands out as an unfair 5/10 because the author mistook a game-breaking bug as intentional behavior. but it got lots of other poor reviews from people that couldn't grok its vibe
"You won't get hurt from falling"
Huh. last time I jumped down a three screen drop, I died. :P
**cries in entrance to subterranean**
what character did you use?
@@christopherr9517 Survivor. Though even with monk I do recall death via falling. And unfortunately I haven't made it to the end with Hunter.
I died right next to the entrance of the final sub region of the game because I didnt know I was gonna fall so far
Was really frustrating because the save I I had in subterranean was pretty far and subterranean is hard
@@nitroflux_o1040 At least we can be thankful that there's no karma requirements as you're making your way to the end.
This does not look like my kind of exploration platormer at all, but you make it sound extremely compelling. I also like the serious tone of the video occasionally broken by phrases like "derp-out catastrophically."
Might be worth giving it a try when it's on sale then, you might have fun for a while even if you don't stick with it in the end...
"Might be" no It IS worth trying
@@ElBlargho ik it's 4 years late but it's on sale rn and ima get it.
@@eisasulemankhatri4677 if it seems to hard to you at first, what I did was research how things work and practiced to survive
@@eisasulemankhatri4677 your power is determined by your knowledge and reactions to different situations as you are limited to a small slug cat near the lower end of food chain usually, the only way to grow is to grow your knowledge
Nice job. Very well edited, excellently paced. Beautifully narrated, matched the intrigue and wonder of the game, which looks absolutely unique. There's something poignant about how beautiful and utterly savage it is at the same time, and something as cute as the slug cat dying brutally over and over again, with the rain creating an all pervasive melancholy. Looking forward to it.
Also I'm going on holiday in a couple of days, to rural Tasmania. Dunno what the internet will be like. If I'm not around being mean to you and bullying other commenters (a sign of affection btw), just know I haven't abandoned you.
I will genuinely miss your merciless abuse. Don't get eaten by a platypus out there.
(You'd thought I was going to go for the low hanging fruit and say tasmanian devil, but I'm better than that!)
@@ElBlargho I just saw a tassie devil about an hour ago. They run like spastics, it's hilarious
I just bought the game today, and the rain is truly awe inspiring in how perfectly they managed to make it. I've never been scared of rain before, but I sure am now!
Nature is beautiful, and cruel, and relentless and indifferent.
I remember my first time playing this game on stream people were very helpful but also did not spoil. Very tough game but also very fun.
can i check out the stream?

I heard you talking about this in a daily challenge, but hearing about it and seeing it are two different things. It looks so much prettier than i imagined, and sounds right up my alley. Thank you for introducing me to it!
I hope you love it!
Welp you sold me on your book, cave blazers and now this within the first five minutes. Good job man!
That guy nice you should check out catacomb kids, I have 60 hours in catacomb kids, also rainworld is awesome

Holy crap, I'd love to share this but I wish there were fewer spoilers in there. The exterior and the memory crypts didn't really have to be there, for example, but at least my favorite zone The Wall was untouched :)
They are very brief moments and you could possibly gloss over them not noticing anything particular and you will obviously never know how all of this footage relates to the game and where is what but I'm still undecided of whether I want to share this with everyone...
This was a concern when I was making it, so I watched the trailer and based what I'd show on that. There is barely anything shown here that isn't already spoiled in the trailer, and the complete lack of context should keep it in the realm of "that's some cool visuals, I want to see it" instead of "I wish I'd discovered that myself." I really wanted to feature more than the couple starting areas, since one of the big selling points is how big and weird the world is...
Yeah when I first watched this I didn’t notice the spoilers, but I’m now like halfway through the game and I’m like oh spoilers there, there, there...... I really shouldn’t watch this again
Oh also the last sub region is here too
Yeees rainworld. I love how this game has build up an ecosystem that feels pretty real. Also the way the creatures are animated make them feel more allive. Really love the world building.
I also would also recomend looking into dead cells or ori and the blind forest. Maybe you might like them. They are both veary unique on their own.
There is a bunch of dead cells in the channel, though it's from before 1.0 . Here ya go:

I like your description of my favorite game :)
Ever since I've played rain world I've been scared whenever it rains heavily outside
Ah yeah boy! Early access videos! This game looks fantastic - I would love to see you suffer on it on the channel. Perhaps it can replace Sashavol as you digital suffering session - would be great to see you get through it on the hardest difficulty.
The plan is to make a video about the lore, then do a hard mode Super Special Mission that will probably end in permanent death shortly after success...
This game truly is something special. It’s atmosphere is completely mind blowing for a 2D game. It honestly ruined 2D side scrolling games for me. Nothing honestly compares to how this game made me feel
Wow do you still play rain world as I'm saying this 2 years late to your comment
You actually got me to play one of my favourite games. Thank you, Israel
Nice review. I haven’t seen you do a review before but this was great.
Thanks for making a video on one of my favourite games!
You have an amazing voice for this video. Truly amazing. I'm not interested in this game, but, dammit, you deserve more Views for this Review.
From here to a career in audiobooks, just one step!
The karma doors are my biggest problem with the game. The game is annoying enough without also forcing you to grind out karma levels.
fun fact the reason game is hard is basically that it wants you to have a feeling of that you arent the strongest one and never will be. Just like a rat surviving the snakes. Its a mission to ascend peacefully trough the biggest problems
Burney clearly you have not played hunter
Recently been getting into this gem of a game, and strangely loss doesn't feel that bad. Sure when you lose your run is done, but if you don't just restart you get to see the wheels of the world turn. A lizard will drag your body away to its den, fight others for the food, and it just teaches you the nature of the world.
Hate it? The unfairness is one of the many reasons why I absolutely love this game because it makes me feel like it's real. The difficult controls encourage me to not be so terrible, I learned things about maneuverability and things you can do in general while playing this game, the steps you take are so undefined and completely your choice. The world is what it is, you can only go so many places, but hey, there's plenty of things you can do in one region alone. Learn to absolutely thrive, collect everything there is to pick up, survive (duh), observe and record interesting things, and maybe even discover things you'd never knew existed. Among other things, like trying to tame or communicate with things. This game can give you stories to tell to those who're willing to listen.
While making my way through the Shaded Citadel I tamed a pink lizard purely by chance, leaving behind food for him without meaning to. I noticed he was chasing me but then not attacking, and that's when I realized you can befriend them. He followed me around for quite some time... until scavengers murdered him :(
Rip. Scavengers are total jerks smh, one time I gave them a cool looking pearl and they blew me up when I tried getting past one of their toll things. I've then decided to not associate with them, but their hideouts are cool and full of things that blow up. RIP pink lizard
0:19 - *painful flashbacks*
Me and a buddy used to play the arena every day in high school. Almost all my hours in this game are fighting against my friends and those are some of my fondest memories of high school. Seriously check out rainworld just for the arena with some friends. Local multiplayer greatness
I knew what kind of difficulty this game would have going into it. I still decided to play it because I love exploration and world building. I recently made it to the end, and it was surreal and beautiful. I also knew a lot about the ecosystem already, but there were still a few aspects here and there that I learned on my own. I also learned a lot of the lore from Looks to The Moon and occasional visits to the wiki.
Me has 600 hours on spelunk :yep i tolerate falure
This is incredibly edited, paced and narrated!
I decided to re-visit Rain World and let me tell you my final experience. There is no God. Only suffering, pain and sadness exist. What is the point to even play this game? Or any game? Do they reward you, make your life more meaningful? The life is already hard enough but why would anyone try to make it even harder by playing this game? It's like that meme: "My disappointment is immesureable and my day is ruined", that's how I feel playing this game. Re-visit took me almost 7 hours and how meaningless was that activity? In the meantime I could have watched a film with my friends, visited my parents, cooked something nice, played sports, all in the same time spent. But instead I made a mistake of watching a video about how good Rain World is and why I should play it just to be left in a perpetual suffer for 7 hours. Rain World is the most meaningless, time consuming, frustrating game I've ever played that also gave me an existencial crisis.
The peak example of "it's so cool but I'm just not gonna even try"
This game has taught me perseverance. The creativity that a simple spear can offer when it comes to smacking your enemies with grace.
It has taught me that hard work pays.
Well, I guess, the game has taught me more than a lot of real things have. Thank you, VideoCult for making this as hard as it is. I can't imagine an easy version of Rain World. That would make it more accessible, sure, but that would dilute the effect.
RAIN WORLD IS A CULT and I LOVE IT ❤‿❤
There is a certain phrase that completely describes this game in a nut shell
Nature is phuckin metal
I would love this to become a series :D watching the cat die in a heroundes way
i absolutely love rain world, glad someone else does too (edit: this video holds up so well i didn't even notice it was 4 years old until 6 minutes in, and now there is rainworld downpour.)
Excellent video! It keeps up at night how much this game has been overlooked by many
1:09 THAT yes that part I HATED THAT! & the bridge you kept falling off to!
...I love this game so much though.
Israel, this video was very well made and commented, thank u and congratulations
daww, thanks!
This is a masterpiece of a vid. Excellent description of rain world. Really compelling narrator you are :). Super enjoyable to watch. Thank you very much man.
what i love about rain world is how realistic it is, that is in it's fictional world. you're a slugcat pup, not a hardcore apex predator. you have no idea what all these animals do and you're always with your family for a reason. that's why the game is so harsh and unforgiving, you're not even expected to be there so of course you dont know where to do or what to do, imagine if you were the slugcat, you'd do the exact same thing. rain world is an ecosystem in which you are participating, not an ecosystem that revolves around you
Dude, you are really good at this, you deserve more subscribers!
You convinced me, at least!
Never seen or heard anything about this game but Im probably gonna by it right away.
I hope you get into it. It's well worth the money.
"This isn't the last you'll see of Rain World on this channel" he said 4 years ago in a video that changed my life.
I fell in love in this game while watching your short review and knew for some reason that it would be my all times favourite, was totally right.
So, today i finished my first playthrough of recent Rain World DLC. It left me stunned and i wanted to thank you for leading me to this wonderfull world.
This is dlc only by name and acts like a direct expansion to the game, continuing the main story and providing 5 extra plot lines in form of 5 incredible slugcats, each with own timeline, story and mechanics. The giant map expanded even more and the game became what feels like 2 times bigger and better compared to the normal rain world.
Now it finally feels complete, i highly encourage you to at least check it out.
Perhaps you'd want to update your recomendations and made even more priceless contribution to RW community??
Thank you for enjoying it, I hope you saw the lore video i posted after this one!
I've been very slowly playing through the expansion. I do want to make a big video about it but if it's anything like the first, it'll take over a hundred hours of work, which means several months from now....
@@ElBlargho Are you still planning to do it? No rush, I'm just curious!

"you won't get hurt from falling..." No you can die from falling but that's if you fall far enough
Also I know this was 3 years ago but I like rain world content
Playing this game for myself and trying to resist the urge to dive into spooler before completing it
This is one of the few games I wish would be wiped from my memory and only a video of myself convincing me to play it so that I can experience it again for a second time
That's an amazing review dude! Please, make more of them :D
honestly, I didn't even think it was possible to kill the lizards until I was explicitly told so because I couldn't one shot them and their was no other way for me to know I could kill these lizards that could one shot me
it took me until 1:40 to realise that this is israel blargh the spelunky king from those years ago
i just found this amazing game and i am addicted and don't know how i did not know of it for so long
You lied, I played it for 50 hours and I fucking loved every second
I spent like a year and a half playing this game. And I got real mad at it a lot. It consumed a lot of my time and messed with my brain.
Today I beat it.
And it was magnificent.
I've already started another playthrough.
Looking back, it's by far the weirdest experience I've had in videogames since then. Super fond memories of it!
This looks so good and atmospheric... love it. And Your review is FANTASTIC blargh!
I see some people criticizing it, and I completely agree. This is personally my dreams game and the platform it and exploration is not going to be the thing to keep you playing. The complex ai and wanting to master the 98 page google doc of movement and combat is what will keep you playing. Currently have just below 400 hours
Everyone always says Rain World is frustrating, but not really for me. Whenever I come across a part that I keep dying on I don't get mad, I just get bored.
[MINOR AREA SPOILERS AHEAD]
Especially the Memory Crypts, you just wait until the Miros Birds are gone and run, its just monotonous, but not really frustrating.
tbh in memory crypts I just killed all the birbs
Well time to go play this
Hope you get into it and go all the way to the end!
I love this game!
just clicked in the video (didn't see it) to say that i played an hour so far on this freaking game and i already fill masochistic of how awesome and painly hard this game is
So basically you're saying it's the Dark Souls of exploration games
No? Not at all. Dark Souls was brutally difficult, but fundamentally fair. Almost every death was your fault. Rainworld is built on the premise that it’s world is uncaring, and therefore unfair a majority of the time. The joy of Rainworld doesn’t lie in taking down powerful enemies like Vultures, it lies in the act of a weaker creature fending for itself in an unfamiliar, unfair world, and succeeding in its goal of survival.
Not everything that’s difficult is “like” Dark Souls.
@@mr.cup6yearsago211 I was making a joke
Ronin Smith agh, sorry. It just really rubbed me the wrong way. Carry on, lmao.
this is the dark souls of youtube comments
Dam good review man
The title alone makes me relate. Just bought this game maybe 3 hours ago and I've already quit out of frustration at having all my karma sucked away in 10 minutes on the easiest difficulty. I want to at least get my money's worth out of the game, and I love the style and the fluidity of everything.
But holy fuck if controlling this walking sperm with a spear isn't the epitome of my days as a toddler trying to mimic the cool parkour men I saw on video
Continue to play, many people felt that and continued playing that and fell in love with it
This is one of my favorite games of all time up until now and 90% of my friends wouldn’t like it or get it.
"Rinse and repeat"
This is what I _hate_ about Rain World. Slugcat is SLOW ... soooo SLOOOOOOOW. The game seems to want you explore the environment and its many death traps. But every time you investigate anything, you get punished with "rinse and repeat". The game punishes you with BOREDOM!!!
its my 2017 GOTY without a doubt..also with latest COOP mode is masterpiece now
I only just got the game an I've gotten no where yet but I'd say this is a perfect summary
Love the video and it will be awesome to have a serie of this game
I just wish I was good enough at this game to actually do anything
On reflection, I'll say that Rain World, like The Longing, is more art than game.
Uncle Blargo right as always. Now Rain World will never leave my heart. Thank you so much, i hate it. (not the game, the enourmous influence it cause to my personality)
I thought you play as the parent looking for the kid
Absolutely beautiful video. Though almost all (90%) deaths on the background as you speak about game's brutality and unfairness are just a player's extreme stupidity really.
Lovely video. Honestly you have me sold.
It's a wonderful game!
I will never get tired of this game OwO--b
I love this game. I really do. The music, the climate, the graphics, the story.
Fell in love with it a year ago.
But game should not feel like a second job, a job you really hate on top of that.
This is the first game that I prefered to watch than to play. Playing it makes me want to smash things and kick animals.
Maybe it should be played only by young people who don't have real jobs yet.
I now play different games while playing Rain World soundtrack. :)
This video sold me, thanks
took you 25 hours?
TOOK ME 70
with about the same amount of cycles, probably because I died more than you did. of course, now I can win easily in sub-20.
which doesn't help when I'm playing hunter though, because of the sheer difficulty.
Nice video as someone who also has spent 25 hours into it
(Took 10 hours longer because i have moon 4 neurons)
I Love this game af
i hate and love it at the same time
i just like to abuse the lizards or any other living being near me
Good video. You do show an awful lot of the creatures and areas for a "spoiler free" review though.
Luckily for me I am too stubborn to not stop playing frustrating games
I’m also calm enough to not rage over small things
This is the game for you!
This game looks beautiful
These types of videos are the absolute best of your content
Unfortunately, the phrase "imprecise controls" sounds like a huge turn off for me, even though everything else looks really good. Looks like I'll have to take you up on that offer at the end, if I get the time. *Sigh* I used to have tons of time and no money, now I have ample money but no time
Yeah, you have to move really slowly and carefully or the character might just ignore poles/platforms and throw himself to his death, once you get used to the controls it's a breeze but the physics make everything pretty unreliable.
And considering you loose karma on death (used to open doors for level transition) each death is unnecesarily punishing
Can't blame ya. The NERDRAGE potential is strong with Rain World. Speedruns are extra impressive to watch for that reason, though. Some people CAN control it perfectly...
I just wish there was a better sense of direction in this game. I got stuck in one area for a few weeks and got sick of the game. I came back after watching a walkthrough
hate to be this guy but when you play as the survivor or monk you aren't a pup anymore
Really Nice

I like this game, but i hate how the controls feel less like controlling a creature, and more like a bag of potatos.
You've got a lovely voice)
I am so close to ascend as survivor but am haitng it cuz theres no food and I cant save
chocolate TR there’s no rain in the depths, I don’t think, so you can take it as slowly as you need.
Mr. Cup thanks but I already realized that and finished the game with beast master mod d:
chocolate TR ah, good.
I really wanted to like this game but the controls are a pain on keyboard, anyone know if it's any easier on a controller/gamepad ?
I don't play on Keyboard but on Controller and its....easy i guess?
If youre still yet to play, you can literally just *change the controls* on either gamepad or keyboard
I love this and i love you.
Tried to play, but didn't last long. That cyan lizards too much for me, why they fukin flying
I remember after finishing my first playthrough almost leaving a thumbs down review due to all my frustration and overall not enjoying it. But then I decided to suck it all up and do a second playthrough now with all of my gained knowledge.
Holy shit I love this game.
dont do this to me, i have been waiting on the game to go on sale for some time now. i just discovered your channel and i found we love similar games, especially sharing the same favorite game (spelunky) why must you make such a convincing argument to buy this game off sale...
Do a playthrough please
Eventually the hunter will traverse the ravaged lands of this decrepit world...
Rain world has a new DLC coming in late january, seems like it adds more to the game, with 5 new characters who all have unique abilities, I'm looking forward to it
great great review of the game
it has such wonderful replayability, especially with score running with hunter.
i find it so hard to recommend to people unless they're infinitely patient with games, though i absolutely love it
the non voice noises kind of worked against your voice save for the part where the rain drowns you out which was perfect
