Greg Biffle's job avoiding this wreck should be in the Library of Congress.
Never noticed that
He literally was sandwiched on the top when the smoke started and 1.5 seconds later when the camera switched he was the bottom 😂 wtf
I never saw that. Wow, incredible
Oh my God this dude was WRECKED!! How??
5:05
#1 thing that surprises me everytime I watch this, Greg Biffle. He was the 8th car in line on the top, and made it through with no damage, Crazy
Javier Escuella he did hit the outside wall just barley
More than a decade later and this video still gives me the chills. The symphony of sounds is simply different with pack racing. And those 4-wide shots. Awesome!
What you can't here in the background toward the end is Greg Biffle saying, "OH MY GOD MAN IT WAS LIKE DAYS OF THUNDER OUT THERE WITH CARS FLIPPING AND STUFF!!!" 😂😂😂
Crazy to think that Michael Waltrip could've won this race if Stewart doesn't block. He had a great run on the inside of Stewart.
Johnny Boy he had it won
@@weeyumbyron4027 Agreed. Casey Mears would've pushed him to that win. Yet Stewart complains about "too many wrecked race cars" a few years later.
@@drummerboy0264
Actually it was the 2012 Dega spring race and he said just the opposite. And he was also being very sarcastic 😂
ruclips.net/video/BM8ymZRQEm0/видео.html
Part of me thinks it would have been a photo finish between Mears and Waltrip while the other thinks Kenseth still wins anyway
truee
Greg Biffle with the greatest wreck avoidence of all time 😂
U meant “BIGGEST”
That was the 3M car?
@@CodeineAbdulJabbar yep
Haha. Every time I thought he made it thru more cars slid down!
Whay picture
In 2012, this clip, this finish, was the thing that introduced me to the sport of Nascar...
8+ years later, this is so nostalgic for me
What a shot at 1:08. Unbelievable they made it as far as they did without crashing.
6:33 big crash with i sign in the back round saying "this is Talladega" lol
Thx for make better
Hell yea.. amazing camera footage
When I was younger, playing with my 1:64 cars I used to have finishes with everyone 4 wide and then having a giant wreck, so it was quite shockingnto see it happen in real life
omg me too lol it was soooo much fun lol
Bitch please, I still do that on NR2003 lol I Love Big Ones!
LOL I still do that.
I do that also only jr. Always wins. And it's gives me chills to see it in real life
Karen Braswell I make tracks out of yarn and have my own little series! it has 6 wins at dega
I was watching this race with my family....for the first time my entire family watched a race....and now, we watch them everyday, because of this.
I;ll be remembering this wreck for years.
Michael Waltrip man... he was having a great run, too...
he wouldve won
@@67chevyc10guy Him or Mears.
100th Like!
I was dying in the final two laps. I could not believe they actually made it around the track going 4-wide. Reminds me of 2010 fall race here.
Just think, if they made it back it would’ve been the best NASCAR finish of all time.
Tony Stewart @ Bristol August 2012: "I'm going to take out Matt Kenseth every chance I get"
Tony Stewart @ Talladega October 2012: Takes everyone out but Matt Kenseth.
Spotlight for Greg Biffle too for managing to escape, somehow, unscathed.
I was thinking the same thing when watch this wreck
1:07 greatest camera shot in NASCAR history
in this day in age where we never see racing at dega like we used to, this was awesome.
this was like a little more than a year ago.
I meant that this was like old times, very rare nowadays
The 2019 fall race was amazing if you haven’t watched it
@@Ab_Ismael same with this year's dega last week, was crazy
TearsOf Blood at this point were guaranteed an iconic legendary races at SuperSpeedways
6:06 you can hear Greg Biffle being interviewed in the background of his miraculous wreck avoidance
Waltrip probably would have won that race if Tony didn't try to block him like that. Casey Mears could have won also.
I know, it's gut-wrenching even to this day, isn't it?
CPWindsorsub Harvick to
+pixel gaming We don't really care about Harvick. He already wins his fair share of races.
Dmitri Franco yeah I hate him
You're absolutely right. That's Talladega. I'm just amazed they managed to stay 4-wide for as long as they did before they wrecked. And that Gordon made it through. He's had rough luck at plate tracks recently.
"They waited all day to do it but it was big when it happened" Dark restrictor-plate humor.
I usually love the Big One, but I hate this one. Because we were robbed from an all time finish. They were FOUR WIDE the entire G-W-C, you could feel the tension watching so many cars race so close, Waltrip was miraculously about to get his final NASCAR win...and they wreck. What a shame. Bestwick and MRN nailed these calls too.
It always makes me sad watching this, because had it not been for Stewart, Michael Waltrip would have won this race.
+Noah Anthony It was not Mears fault at all. Far from it. If there was no late block, there would have been no wreck. If Stewart successfully blocked Waltrip, then who knows.
+Noah Anthony how the hell was Mears at fault? 100% on Stewart there..Any idiot can see that...
*****
Stewart overblocked Waltrip without calculating for his momentum.
not for sure i think stewert had a better shot at it
Isaiah Voskuil
Waltrip had a tremendous run, he would have cleared Stewart with room to spare.
That was the most amazing lap and a half at Talladega I'd ever seen. Then they wrecked. Ruined it.
KamikazeGames you mean the scorpion stewart wrecked everyone
Redkelly Re Just like i said, you comment on all the tony stewart videos.
KamikazeGames no i comment on every racing video .,i have a computer designated to the scorpion stewart
+KamikazeGames To be honest, the wreck was a release of tension for us. They were racing so close. To be honest, I'd be disappointed if the Big One didn't happen. It's an icon of Talladega, just like pack racing. Without the big one, it doesn't feel like a Talladega race.
+KamikazeGames I knew some people who ere like "Oh please not the gut guy on the front. They're just sitting ducks。“ And then came Tony Stewart
Surprising to see Biffle, Gordon and Kyle Busch avoid all that like wow!😂
Crazy finish. They were FOUR WIDE through 3 1/3 corners! That was amazing!
I was sitting right off turn 4 for this. It was so awesome.
As crazy as this wreck was to this day I don’t think anyone has realized that this is practically the FIRST and ONLY time someone’s done a blowover in the middle of a turn
2021 still remembered it.
This is the accident that Dale references in his book that really started his concussions to become even worse. To the point that he wasn't even acting like himself after this wreck.
"We're on the last lap! Will they make it back?"
Me: Nope. Well, a few will. A few.

Holy hell
Who's here because of Daniel Hemric?
Here after Hemric did a recreation moment!
Glad to see drivers across different motorsports have done this, Dale Jr’s the only other guy ive seen do this
I Remember this race vividly and was so happy seeing waltrip getting that hard push. No doubt he would have run that race if not for Stewart. Woulda been his first win since 2004 at the same track. Great restrictor plate racer.
2003
1:11 is a work of art. People say racing isn't a skilled sport, I'd love to see them go 4 wide at Talladega like that even ONE turn.
Yeah
5:00 Wow, whoever drove that 3M sponsored car (top of track far right) dodged like a pro all the way to the end.
I think you'll find he goes by the name Greg Biffle.
The Biff! :)
Yes sir!
The Biff in the Biffle mobile
TheBiff/Greg
This package and car was amazing. the 4 wide racing is something u will never see anymore. U could actually pass and push.
if i'm not mistaken, it took kyle busch about 3 seconds to go from 18th to 3rd
0:14 - 0:18 some of the best engine sounds getting up to speed I’ve heard in a long time
No question, ESPN did a great job with production
Wow,can't believe it's gonna be 2 years since this happened...thankfully everyone made it out ok
The only injury was Dale Jr.'s concussion. I am 100% satisfied with the safety features NASCAR has come up with over the years.
I can’t believe it’s gonna be 10 years since this happened... thankfully everyone made it out ok
The way Kyle Busch avoided that is crazy
Awesome finish!!! Tony's flip looked very similar to Rickry Craven's flip at Dega in turn one back in about 1994. Incredible that nobody was even hurt.
Im sorry to be that one person but the 88 driver got a concussion apparently
1:29 Get through that McQueen!
Michael McDowell 12 years later happened
i cant get over how perfect the 4-wide formation is at about 1:07 ... its a dream scenario @ talladega!!!
Amen
and then they crashed
Typical ESPN not giving Greg Biffle any credit for missing the wreck, and instead they just talk nonstop about Gordone and Busch missing it
But they did a good job too, but Biffle's driving was just insane
JGG737 ikr and greg biffle used to be one of my favorite drivers he was so underated tbh
I know, his driving was stellar!
its Gordon not gordone
He was and still is my favorite driver.
I thanked myself for taking the day off of work to see this. Now, I wonder how it would have looked if no one had wrecked here. THAT would have been even more insane than the actual wreck.
Who's here after Mcdowell's wreck 2024? They look so similar dang
1:16 you can faint fully hear the MRN audio in the distance
vividly? i say clearly
Biffle Gordon and Ky Busch just tuned in their inner Dinoco 400 McQueen 😂 BUT GOD DAMN TONY WHY DID YOU HAD TO MAKE THE BLOCK ON MARK MAR- I mean on Mikey
THE BIFF
Why did they change the cars? This was the perfect kind of Daytona Talladega racing. We never have racing as good as this anymore with the gen six cars
We still get this kind of racing if you've paid any sort of attention, the Gen 6 cars just handle a little better, though one of these days, 35+ pile up because of this kind of racing. I know this because I ended up in this kind of racing with some of my NASCAR games, which realistically interpret how each driver races, I suffered a 40 car pile up as a result of this kind of racing on NASCAR '14...........Damn was that tense. I'd go into details of how the wreck occurred, but it would take too long.
Donovan Kobe Swary After Carl Edwards' trip through the fence, that was the impetus to put the spoilers back on the cars.
Brandon Slay NR2003 is far more realistic, I will say that.
+Alissa MewMew these cars drafted much better, bigger spoilers, you could really push and suck up and draft. The leader was a sitting duck. The current rules aren't as good, small blade and the leader controls the race...
Imo this is one of stewarts biggest mess ups in his career. Amazing 4 wide racing, michael waltrip with a run to the lead, who knows how they would have finished. That was a bad block and tony knows it.
I found that to be very impressive. They went 4 wide, about 6 or 7 rows deep and they didn't wreck b/c of that. It was Stewart's blocking that caused the wreck. So that alone showed the driving skill of the 43 drivers.
And yes, Jeff was way overdue to cash in on a Chase plate race. He had been running so good at the plate tracks for the last few years & he finally caught a big break. If Jeff rallies to win the title, he could look back at this race as the race that gave him his break.
This is the race that made me hate Stewart. Waltrip ditched him made an amazing move at 1:21 and douche knew he was fish outta water.
Amazing Mikey was only racing 4 races year then and this one would have been his 5th restrictor plate win. Only won 4 but grest dude met him
Many times and many signed Napa jackets in the pre race autograph sessions pre and after races . Great great dude
Deadly restrictor plate racer sad his first win came on that terrible 2001 day
I was there when I was 15. I wanted like 2 or 3 of them to win and Tony was one of them. I also was pissed up until the last lap that I hadn’t seen a good wreck, then that happened. 😎
It is a federal crime that Alan Bestwick doesn’t have a commentary job with nascar today.
Well this aged exceptionally well
I remember watching this with my brother and both of our jaws dropped to the floor when Stewart flipped…
i live to see the 4/5-wide racing that made the last few laps of this race. some of the best pack racing ive seen in a long time there
1:07
What a sight! Beautiful how so many cars can occupy so little space at that speed.
The race you mentioned, I did not no anything of nascar, was flipping through the channels, and I saw the big crash about a minute before it happened, watched racing ever since! I agree with u on this crash.
Died 2012. Born 2024. Welcome back 2012 Tony Stewart near flip
The class act of all this is
Dale Jr gives Jimmie Johnson a ride back to pit road
4:20 Matt Kenseth’s reaction probably was like: OMG that is HUGE!!! I hope everyone’s ok
The 98 and the 83 knew there was going to be a big wreck they slowed down before entering turn 3 and they escaped that shit with pride
+chris martin the only bad thing was neither was on the lead lap
@@trainboy32 lmao
It was the 93. Not the 83.
Then the 16
Here’s some Irony for you:
Tony Stewart @ Talladega Spring 2012: “If we haven’t crashed 50% of the cars by the end of the race, we need to extend the race until we crash at least 50% of the cars cause its not fair to these fans who came to see wrecked race cars.”
Tony Stewart @ Talladega Fall 2012: *Wipes out the entire field on the last lap.*
I remember him saying that live while we were watching the race. It made me giggle. I was 15 but I knew Talladega well enough to know something is wrong if they dont have a massive accident something is wrong
I wish this was a night race
I dont think the universe could handle the awesomeness of Talladega at night
***** Not to mention the countless times ARCA has been cut short due to darkness. The have to race after the Sprint Cup qualifies, and then after their own qualifying session. The race is usually 94 laps, but they have been cut of with only 45 laps complete before.
@@DavidHutchins48 It isn't much bigger than Daytona. It shouldn't cost much more than Daytona and there are lights there.
I was there!!!! This is my all time FAVORITE race IV ever been too! Sucks for Tony since I'm a fan of his
Its still crazy watching this. Feels like it just happened earlier today lol
Wild that of all the things from this wreck, Michael Waltrip being in the best position to win is the craziest of them all
1:32 Kevin Harvick is upside down!
Lol
I do miss the aggressive racing from this time. Wish they put the big spoilers back on. As a fan and advent racer on NASCAR Racing 03, I love been able to see someone get runs and make moves through the field than just someone have the lead with 10 to go and no one can get the lead. I remember one time starting 33rd and getting up to the lead within 10 laps and having to block both lanes while leading.
They're bringing it back in 2019
True. but if you looks back at Las Vegas in 2011, it shows you don't need a restrictor plate with those cars to cause a huge wreck.
0:56 - Stewart to the lead at the white flag, we’re on the last lap. Will they make it back?
...no they won’t Alan...no they won’t.
To any trained ears and viewers. You can hear the Kevin Harvick upside down.
How did biffle make it unscathed?
Guys...this was NINE YEARS ago now.
Who’s here after Daytona 2024? Lol
6:46 man that was some violent movement by Clint in the car, really shows how hard that hit was..
Question - when a caution goes out the field freezes. So all the cars that kept going to cross the line and finish the race were doing it to keep their spot? So if you were in 5th when the caution went out, but you do not cross the line to end the race, you would not get 5th? And if you were 5th when caution came out and you cross the line, but were passed by 8 other cars before you crossed, you would still hold 5th?
I was pumped that Jeff wasn't in this crash
Tony Stewart never flipped. He almost did. But that was on his side.
I was with my cousins and my dad when we saw this, and we all flipped out because none of us had ever seen a crash take out so many cars all at once. 25 cars were involved.
Tony Stewart "flip". Remember, he didn't completely go over. This, is an example of an incomplete blowover.
Now THAT is how a race Talladega Superspeedway should end.
Am not a nascar official! Love the video.
Another example of inconsistency because Matt Kenseth blatantly shoved Clint Bowyer below the double yellow line (forcing someone constitutes a black flag as does going below to gain a spot) yet he wasn't and won. Jeff Gordon should have gotten the win with Kenseth getting credited as the last car on the lead lap.
+Matthew Kowal (Matt102490) true but tony stewart did the same thing in 08 and no penalty
That wasn't blatant, he moved up immediately and gave plenty of room yet Smith stayed down there while Kenseth just moved and kept him down there then moved up.
it was a great move, and it gave him a chance to win the race. He had some backmarker car behind him on the restart and had no help at that point so it was either come down, or fall back to 5th or worse.
RenderingRadar24 but that's a video game!!!! This is real life!!! I know I'm a Jeff fan, but they should have let Penalized him. I Jeff had done it, it would be the same reaction.
If you get forced below the double yellow line you don't get a black flag because you got forced below the line, you just have to get back up fast
Ross Chastain would wish he could create this big crash
If Kahne wasn't there, Stewart could've completely flipped over more.
Guys, Tony raced for the win here and messed up, then he manned up afterwards. Joey spun his tires at Auto Club and blocked Tony who had a full head of steam. Joey wouldn't man up afterwards, the closest he went to manning up was saying that he "May" have done something wrong, even after wrecking and sending Denny to the hospital. Don't hate on Tony. It's senseless.
I watched this too many times... I even memorized what the commentator says
RYAN NEWMAN MAKES IT FOUR WIDE BACK IN THE PACK, THAT WAS CLOSE.
+Ezeckiel Reyes (Kiboy) MATT KENSETH AND CLINT BOWYER CONTACT THERE AS KENSETH TRIES TO CLEAR BOWYER
I hear ya
Ezeckiel Reyes o there's CONTACT STEWART IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PACK AND OVER
that was cool the way jimmy Johnson was picked up from the crash site
3:34 I'm not a Johnson fan, but to be fair, that's pretty badass :D
this is my favorite nascar finish of all time
I was watching this live, I was like holy crap when it happened
Matt Kenseth is the man. He won 2 of the 4 plate races. the first one, DAYTONA 500! AND he is a former CHAMP!! He has many fans.
Não tem nenhuma categoria, mais disputada que NASCAR !
Haha love Jr giving Jimmie Johnson a ride back to the pits!
