    LYRICS: The sound of your footsteps
    Telling me that you're near
    Your soft gentle motion, baby
    Brings out the need in me that no one can hear, except
    In my midnight confessions
    When I tell all the world that I love you
    In my midnight confessions
    When I say all the things that I want to
    I love you
    But a little gold ring you wear on your hand makes me understand
    There's another before me, you'll never be mine
    I'm wasting my time
    Staggering through the daytime
    Your image on my mind
    Passing so close beside you, babe
    Sometimes the feelings are so hard to hide, but
    In my midnight confessions
    When I tell all the world that I love you
    In my midnight confessions
    When I say all the things that I want to
    I love you
    That's a little gold ring you wear on your hand that makes me understand
    There's another before me, you'll never be mine
    I'm wasting my time
    In my midnight confessions
    When I'm telling the world that I love you
    In my midnight confessions
    When I say all the things that I want to
    Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
    Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
    Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
    Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na

    I've always LOVED this song, but never realized 3 different guys alternately shared lead solos. I always thought ONE guy was singing the leads.

    What memories this song has for me. When this song was new and I was a young teenager, I became engaged to a guy who gave me an expensive diamond engagement ring. There was another guy I loved with all my heart, but he was away in 'Nam and I wasn't sure he felt the same about me. Whenever I heard this song on the radio, I thought about him. In the end, I broke up my engagement and returned the ring. When the Marine came back from 'Nam, he and I got together and I found out he truly did love me.

    The LP "The Grass Roots" and single "Mamacita" was out in 1975. This clip is not from 1982 because that is when The Grass Roots released "Powers of the Night" with a new band aside from Rob Grill. This clip is from 1975.

  • @Telephonebill51
    @Telephonebill51 6 лет назад +36

    I was desperately in love with my married boss, until a recent cancer scare came along. Then it got worse; I didn't have cancer at all. Gee, I guess I'm still stuck in the same situation. And this woman is SO wonderful, we actually talk about it; she understands and is as sympathetic as she can be, under the circumstances. It's strange; I long to be back at work just to see her face everyday, and I long to forget about her completely. Eventually, it's all going to end up out in the backyard by the birdbath...

    This video should tell you how many incarnations they have been through. Grill and Entner were the focal point of the band. Studio musicians, The Wrecking Crew, play all of the instruments on every recording of their major hits. Coonce and Bratton were pawns.

    • @Flockengruven
      @Flockengruven 7 лет назад +19

      Carol Kaye of the Wrecking Crew did the bass line of the studio version of this song. Most of the great rock songs of the late 60's were recorded with Carol on the bass.

    • @Katy-ye1zr
      @Katy-ye1zr 7 лет назад +9

      But Rob, Dennis and was it Entner? - they were or became excellent musicians on their own weren't they? - Didn't they play all their own instruments when they played live? Sure hope so, don't burst my bubble now, lol.

    • @drumsport
      @drumsport 7 лет назад +20

      They were fine musicians as witnessed at their concerts, but when you hit the studio and want precision, you hire the best. The Wrecking Crew made over 3500 hits with their unbelievable creativity, and all/most of their great grooves were created by the magnificent Hal Blaine.

    This American Bandstand clip is not from 1982, most likely from '74 or '75. The AB logo was different in the eighties. Great clip of Grassroots.

    Great song, but is the guitarist in back wearing a hat or an umbrella on his head? lol

    • @Au60schild
      @Au60schild 7 лет назад +7

      epb0205 The hat you refer to were very popular in 1977 and were generically called "flop hats"
      I had a denim one at the time and still look on it fondly. As in all things fashion they were a throw back to the '20s when young kids like actor Jackie Cooper wore them. Also, one of Angie Dickinson's supporting plain clothes cops wore one throughout the TV show Police Woman.

    • @kathleenwells883
      @kathleenwells883 7 лет назад +6

      They used to sell "umbrella hats" a the Jersey shore. They were kind of a joke, but a lot of people bought them. It seems they came up with some goofy new thing every summer. I remember one year they had these stiff kind of dog leashes with no dog attached. They were very popular.

    • @Katy-ye1zr
      @Katy-ye1zr 7 лет назад +3

      At turn of last century and beyond they were called newspaper caps and worn by the poorer workers and young men on the streets, smoking cigarette and of course, worn by the boy who sold newspapers. Very popular cap and still popular. I remember back in the 60s/70s there were a lot of patterns for knitting and crocheting them.
