Common strategy for those types of games is to create one collectable that's nearly impossible to get. The person that runs the machine can add one letter "A" for every $1000 in profit. Thereby assuring profitability of the machine. There's a bonus in that sometimes the important collectible will be thrown out, as the person who received it doesn't know what they have.

Fun fact, on claw machines there are certain factors. One thing is that if it is too hard to get stuff that people stop playing, they tend to put rubber caps on the claw to make it easier to grab stuff. Another thing is that it has a counter of “failed attempts”, after a certain set amount, it will allow the lucky person to get an almost guaranteed win by making the grip stronger for a couple grabs.
Best thing you can do is get 3 kinds of claw machines to practice with. best one to practice with is the UFO claw machine since that one requires skill not luck to win
The arcade I worked at when I was a teenager had a similar game. We had large easter eggs in the claw machine with various prizes in them. The biggest prize was a new iPhone. My boss would only have one egg with the iPhone voucher, which he put at the very bottom of the claw machine. And he would fill the machine back up every day to make sure no one could get it. I had to count the cashbox on that machine a couple of times (which we emptied out every two days). I dont think I ever counted less than $ 300 in the cashbox. It was a great scam he had going on.

At least this mall looks alive. Did I ever tell you my scary mall story ? This happened in a mall that was the first mall in my state and they said the first mall in America, but I don't know if that is true. Anyway, I worked at an electronics store that is now out of business. I worked at this store the entire night and closed up and the distance to walk out felt really long. I made the turn and walked down the little entrance corridor. I left and walked out into the parking lot with the lot lights on. I don't remember exactly why but I returned to the mall and the lights were off and the asphalt was all chewed up and there were pot holes and the mall was dark. I couldn't understand how the parking lot could look like this. I saw the spot where I had parked had potholes and I parked as best I could and walked to the doors.. I could see a layer of dust on the floor and signs that had been on the walls were on the floor I walked back to where I had been just minutes before and the gate was down and the glass doors closed and locked but inside was empty. The entire store, and all the stores, were empty and a layer of dust was on everything. The one thing that remained was this creepy photo machine booth where you sit down and it takes your picture and developes it. There was an old drape across the opening of the machine. It was the only thing remaining in the mall. I stood there and looked in the store I had left minutes before that was full of merchandise and I didn't know what was going on. I left the mall and drove home. The next day I called the district manager and the number was out of service. The company had been out of business for years. The one day I was looking at the stone wall and felt this pull to walk down along it I walked to the second road and then I followed the wall to the third road and I followed it and instead of a beach there was a fourth road and I could see a fifth road and it seemed like a copy, like it was just cut and paste and this was before computers I felt really uneasy like this wasn't reality and I ran back to my campsite and it took a lit longer to get back. I don't know what that was or what would happen uf I had kept following that stone wall When I looked at the satellite photo recently I saw there were only 2 roads and it was a loop of a single road So whatever it was I experienced, I know it was a glitch or something else that can't be explained.
