Madeleine Carroll was so beautiful..
During WW2 her sister died in the London Blitz, Madeleine switched to nursing and war relief work in Europe. General Eisenhower said she was the most impressive volunteer he saw.
She was given American Medal of Freefom for her service. She stayed after the war & helped with the concentration camp survivors. She donated her Parisian chateau for an orphanage, started a knitting group to provide clothes, and continued to raise funds for children who needed prosthetics.
She made documentaries to raise awareness of the continued need for post war relief and to promote peace.
She lived into her 80s, a life well- lived and a true legend.
She was widely recognized for her outstanding performance and received the Legion d'Honneur
Thanks, had no idea
@@kayesharples7074 so much more than 'just a pretty face'.
Thank you,for sharing this information regarding Ms.Carroll.
@@NancySanders-om4ic being a huge fan of early Hollywood, I have a large library of books on that era & enjoy doing research on the unusual lives of 'stars' that may not be widely known or recognized or even just sadly forgotten.
Ms Carroll fascinated me with her altruism-& patriotism. She could have lived a safe life of luxury during the war years, acclaimed for her beauty & acting talents but chose a far different path.
Beauty & brains & bravery,
she had it all
@@poorthingYes,I agree with what you so well expressed. A person like that is a Special human being, without doubt. Thank you, again.
My mother grew up in a life like an Andy Hardy movie and they went to see movies like this as young teens in droves. Then the war hit. Then her life was like Andy Hardy went to war with the same small town goodness and bravura. My young life was similar. Times have changed and so has the goodness and bravura. Sad.
What a grand time I had watching this old time movie. The humor was just ticking, and I enjoyed smiling throughout the entire show. What a great way to end my evening; me, myself, and I. What a great find on RUclips, and it was free🤗
P
Mischa Auer is great in this movie
A lovely movie. Thank you.
LOVE these type of movies, always leaves one, in a good mood. THANK YOU.
Definitely, many contemporary movies are horrendous unless they’re like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
Misha (of My Man Godfrey fame-“Money, money, money!”) is also wonderful in this one. He’s the perfect gigilo for a screwball comedy!
He was also funny in "Rage of Paris" with Douglas Fairbanks Jr and in "You Can't take it with you" with James Stewart and Jean Arthur.
I loved this movie!!!! The casting director did an A+ job on this one!
Madeleine Carrol was not only extremely beautiful but also a great little actress! But what she did after leaving pictures was far more rewarding I’m sure. An amazing woman
Thank you for sharing this, I think I may watch it again!🌹
What did she do after, that ur referring?
@@kpflo123 ..."She is also noted for largely abandoning her acting career after the death of her sister Marguerite in the London Blitz to devote herself to helping wounded servicemen and children displaced or maimed by the war. She was awarded both the Legion d'Honneur and the Medal of Freedom for her work with the Red Cross."(Wikipedia)
@@serenalouise - Thank you very much Serena! I mean that.
@@kpflo123 I’m so sorry I didn’t see your question until now, Serena answered it beautifully
Honeymoon in Bali with Fred MacMurray and her is one of my all-time favorites. There too the cast was magnificent. So 30's, the Egret Room, the fortune teller, the department store.
love to see the house decors and fashion of those days. thank you for all these great old movies.
such a good movie - don't talk like that at my wedding, Linda did I not teach you - some v. v. good lines in this movie and great caricatured acting by all partic the gold digger lothario - hilarious.
Well, if you ask me, she married the wrong guy. The idea that that jerk Jimmy was in love with her after all that is frankly unbelievable.
😂if there’s one thing screwball comedies aren’t, it’s “believable”! Lederer here played a weasel deliciously although, he was a good guy in real life from what I’ve read.
The idea of marrying another jerk was ever more crazy.
You may be right, but she was always in love with him. However, I loved and preferred the Baron in the end...
Seriously. I find Rene far more likeable.
Lovely little film, thank you.
Wonderfully predictable (thank God!!). So sweet and funny. Took me down 8 degrees of anxiety and depression. Thanks so much!
Just smile😊
I love these movies. It helps me get through anxiety too. My escape from the real world and chaos. Much love
Good show.
The fight was totally amazing I laughed so hard and haven't enjoyed a good movie in a long time.
Thank you for keeping these wonderful old classics alive for the people who truly love and respect them and also you ! ❤️🙏🇨🇦
adorable
Mischa Auer is always good for a laugh! Frances Lederer made a great Dracula in "The Return of Dracula." Lederer died at the young age of 100! He lived for the full 20th century!!!
Amazin’! I love the scenes between Auer and Lederer, like the pocket square interplay, and the fight which goes contrary to expectations! I had forgotten how long Lederer lived, what a century of change he saw! A number of actors of that era lived to be centenarians: Kirk Douglas, Maureen O’Hara, Olivia DeHaviland are a few I can think of at the moment.
It was a shock to his father who died three weeks later.
Thank you,for that information,I did Not know that about Mr.Lederer.
Wonderfull, realy wonderfull!!! The script is so original. Lederer is good, but madeleine is terrific!!!!

one of the best movies I've ever seen ..Thank you so much for sharing .
Great movie....wonderful cast....and thoughtful themes...but....the real star is my "City by the Bay"....San Francisco as it was in its glory....thank you.
This sort of plot leaves one with the feeling that human nature is not sooo bad....that we are redeemable....that we at times come to a fork in our lives where people or circumstances drives us to become better than we are....to become....to evolve.... to aspire.....HOPE....I truly enjoyed this movie....a bit idealistic yet optimistic.....I thank you for downloading it
A very nice, complimentary perspective on human nature, thank you.
Eppie Lederer became Ann Landers, advice columnist.
Was she related to this talented, funny handsome actor?
Thanks 🙏 for beautiful movie and I just 💕 💕 💕 💕
Cute movie!
Wow, Mischa Auer - I could watch him all day! For a man who is well outside the cookie-cutter Hollywood school of actory he's the greatest (so excellent too in "My Man Godfrey") - thanks so much for this wonderful example of the zaniness of the Big Screen! 💖 🇨🇦
He's the precursor to Jeff Goldblum.
Agreed!!
Now give me a man who can make love in the sunshine, with nothing but a bag of caramel corn......lol
.
Make love used to mean make a girl fall in love with you.
What a delightful movie ! 😃 Thank you for the down load.
Thankyou , I skipped forward and laughed straight away! So it’s a winner with me! 🥂💕
😃I enjoyed watching this nice movie ❤Thank you for sharing 👍Sept . 19 , 2023
Nice story and the comedy is unique with good acting.
I wonder if the cig industry back then was giving the actors a million apiece for smoking because Aur with his ubiquitous cigs must have received 100 million!
People don't need actors to convince them to smoke. It is common everywhere, even third world countries. You just have been propagandized into believing everyone was tricked into smoking. People have been much more tricked into eating too much and becoming obese and unhealthy today.
loved it very sweet...great acting and timing with the comedy...also no dragged out or foolish...tanks
The cutest movie Funny, with the baron, such a great actor. However, one of the scenes at the first of the movie made me think that it was going to be a movie like Roman Holiday anyI definitely did need to see another one like that one. That was the best and saddest movie that I’ve ever seen. 😭😭😭😭😭
I dunno. I usually like these old screwball comedies but this is a bit weak, especially looking through the eyes of modern times. It bothers me that the ne’er do well nephew thinks it is his money after she inherits fair and square.
Top notch, very well acted and most enjoyable. Thanks for uploading.
An enormously enjoyable movie. At no time did I ever feel the need to fast forward. Most contemporary movies cannot compete with the excellence of these old ones.

Love the Oldies, but Francis Lederer in the role of Jimmy with his strong accent didn't really work out, especially as there was no chemistry between him and Madeleine Carroll.
Lederer who plays Jimmy is Hungarian. Can't mistake that accent, I grew up with it.

I want to be the first to thank you for this movie. However, I ask that you reread the description and consider editing. Keep in mind that with the way our changing society is today, some may not see this as a mistake; (Linda Gray is a mouse-like secretary to the elder Barnes who has fallen in love with Jimmy,) ?
Try- Linda Grey is a mouse-like secretary to the elder Barnes. She/Linda has fallen in love with Jimmy who favors the actress Constance "Connie" Marlowe.
Thank you for your comment, I did not pay much attention to the description, next time I will read more carefully.

Yes I know it's all mine - but sometimes you have to wait until the ones who have what all of it belongs to you are all dead before you can get What's all your's. They know who I'm talkingt to - what I'm talking about - and they know why it's all really mine - and not their's.

Agree.💯
Not in 1937. Movie makers have had 85 years to improve filmmaking. This film had a smaller budget, lack of color, different type of film, lighting sound, and had grown out of silent film and radio shows. Notice that how each character had a distinct voice. Modern culture and expectations for film have changed through the years.
