Still cant get over how funny it is that his squad was fighting an entire Covenant army with little support, whilst Rookie was just taking a 6 hour snooze in his pod. Edit: Spelling and correct number
I'm not opposed to having Rookie be killed off in the extended media but it being in a book was a very lame media to do it in, especially given the book is a 343-era Halo 5 book. However the way he died was pretty grounded and I enjoyed what I read of the synopsis on it. So I'm torn. Really would've liked it to be animated or in another piece of source material though.
It's massively funny to me that the Rookie is better remembered than really any character introduced in Halo 5. Sometimes, it really DOES pay to be the strong & silent type.
I miss this little goofball. The way the game protrays the Rookie, it's almost like he's someone you experience the game's events alongside, and that latched onto me like a leech. He's goofy, obviously bright, and loyal. Who wouldn't a guy like that as their friend? Dude was a real one, a guide, and he was one of the few good things I had during a really rough part of my life. For him to get killed off in a book, though, just devastated me. I feel the same way about his death that I do with real people I know, and for 343 to off him off screen basically makes it the equivalent of preventing us from helping him when he needed it the most. Never could overcome the feeling that I failed someone I cared deeply for, and I still feel guilty over it even though it's 343's fault. He's not the only one I feel that way for, but he was the first. I miss you, Rookie.
My headcanon is that he slept for half of the war that day, and randomly kept stumbling across items that he just knew was from his team but has idea what even happened with them 💀 so he sleeps all day and half the night and then decides to fight through the city Just to find dare 😭
It would of made more sense in my eyes for him to follow buck into the 4s- then we’d have a genuine excuse for co-op in six Chief, Buck, Rookie and That other guy from Osiris- buck and rookie being serious but cool or whatever and chief and the other guy for the stern leader and bad cop vibes It’d of been hilarious, and easy to set up for fan appeal And would of course have us closure for the three stories- have the rest of Osris and blue team working as a joint task force in another sector and you’ll have an excuse for dlc off the ring Halo 5 was like the COD MW of halos and it was weird, halo 6 is needing something to believe in- folks need heroes like the chief
@Goldenstripe941 He's the one listening to the story being told by the main character. He's referred to as "Rookie" and there isn't any other ODST that is referred to by that name
Mind you, most of this happens after he's been knocked unconscious for *5 hours.* He's acting like an 8 year old who has forgotten how to speak because he's literally brain damaged. And he still manages to find his team and fight off a small army of Covenant!
@@antoniogc9358The potential a Spartan rookie could have is huge. If he can pull off Spartan-like feats as a human imagine what he could do with the augmentations.
I’d probably do the same with the Biofoam canister. Those things are life saving tools. Practically an entire first aid box in a canister. You’d check if there’s any left of it to use. Also, are they seriously gonna just gonna name every protagonist in the lore with some kind of J name? 😂 John, Johnson, Johnathan, Jun, James, Jerome, Jacob, Jai… Now I’m wondering if Noble 6’s name isn’t something like Johnny or Jack.
he was such a chill character simple but never was plain in the least he was just a fucking vibe of just ice cold smoothness jit was the most calmest out of everyone in the game and that in itself is why he’s my favorite character in halo besides chief
Fun fact in ODST training in the part of the training where they have to crawl literal miles under barbed wire and gunshots if your too slow they shoot you in the leg with a “training round” which paralyzes your leg and if you continue to be slow they do it to your other leg and you still have to complete the course
I remember playing this halo 3 ODST looking for Romeo sniper gun on the ground and realize it was in the sky hanging on Powerline. The I was clueless for 3 hours
It was cool that they gave a silent character his own personality rather than just ignoring it and making him strictly a stand in for the player. He's cooler than Noble 6 in my eyes.
If they retcon Rookie's death, all's forgiven. Even better if he becomes a Spartan IV alongside Buck, hell the whole ODST squad with Mickey's betrayal never happening, ever.

I think what makes him so interesting is that, despite this moments of nonchalance and slight playfulness. I find him to be very intelligent. Remember, Dare and the rest of the crew didn't find him. He found them. He not only pieced together clues all by himself of their whereabouts, he also uncovered the corruption that happened within New Mombasa. Not to mention, dude was cracked out enough to fight his way through the Data Hive to reach Dare and Vergil.
