I'm thrilled that I met Tom Bailey this evening even though it lasted a nanosecond . he signed one of my TT 12 SINGLES!!! WAXX TRAXX TO THE MAXX ON WUSB FM NY
Make them reunite...pleaseee...If you know them personally you should tell them their fanbase are strong and continiously listen to their songs. Maybe even bigger now as new generations have also taken them up and seen their big genius and undying classic synth-pop songs. Give my regards to Tom, Alannah & Joe next time you see them face to face..heh The Thompson Twins Worldwide Reunion Tour '08 sounds great I think!
The Vinyl I bought in 1986 had this as the 4th song off the 2nd side. I never knew the backstory until just today. It was my favorite track at the time, and is still only beat by Hold Me Now.
Brillant and Monumental mixes from the late Cheeky of Tom and the thompson twins Cheeky was very familar with thomas bailey effect and the adventures of tin tin
OMG This is better than the original! ...And in the vid they look so happy on the stage. Why wont they go together as a band and go on a worldwide tour? ..I'm sure tickets will be sold out in 1 hour!
@aramanth It was to be the 2nd single after "Lay Your Hands On Me", but Tom collapsed from exhaustion right before its release, and Alannah saw that as bad luck, since the song was called "Roll Over", so she had them pull the UK single .... however, she couldn't convince them not to put it on the US version of the album. I talked to Alannah that year and she said "the record company in the US said that our album just wouldn't sell at all without that song, so they ignored me and included it."
It's also on the UK 2 disc re-release of the album Here's To Future Days, it include the 7 inch version as the track just after the original album track listing, and on CD 2 it has this version and the instrumental version as well
Mad awesome... what a happy, high-energy vibe!! Would've loved to have been at that show! Cool vibe AND snappy stage presence... what a winning combo! Read Wiki postings... sad so many critics were SOOO WAY off the mark with the negativity, and yet, so typical - just taking the title 'Critic' way too close to heart. Nothing new tho - just a reflection of society at THIS point in time. Boy, is it ever time to turn this tide! Just an observation... :-)
Father John earned his keep Preachin' to the women on the easy street for free Roll over again (give me drum) Thirty years played his trade Lookin' for heaven on a silver plate Roll over again If only he knew it didn't have to be that way Ohh, the promised land Was just another slice of the cake [Chorus:] Round and round, It's always round and round we go (round and round we go) Yeah, where it leads us Nobody knows (nobody) No, no, Dance and dance Why must we dance our lives away (dance our lives away) How much it bleeds us No-one can say (say say say say) Jezebel made her way, Sliding around on dirty sheets all day So roll over again (Ow!) She lived for years With the fear That real true love might never come her way Roll over again (1,2,3,4) If only she knew it didn't have to be that way Yeah, and true romance Was just another slice of the cake [Chorus] You and me, Chasing dreams We can't see the forest for the trees We roll over again (yeah) Me and you Dance so well Just like John and Jezebel We roll over again (whoa-oh-oh-oh, let's dance!) [Chorus] No one can say
Was this the actual video for the song or a live version, if it was a live version do you know eher it was filmed, BTW fantastic song, still sounds brill now.
It's been 12 years since you left this comment, so you've probably seen the actual live footage by now. But yeah there is a proper live performance of this.
My favorite Thompson Twins song!!!
As a teenager in the 80s, hearing this song for the first time on weed was one of the highlights of my younger life.
Thompson twin tunes always had a kick ass bass sound.
I know generations seem to blast the last for musical tastes etc. but, my kids and even their friends love The Thompson Twins. Great/ timeless music!

Alannah is an artist now, she's on twitter. Joe became a therapist, he has no interest in music any more. Tom tours tho.

Father John earned his keep
Preachin' to the women on the easy street for free
Roll over again
(give me drum)
Thirty years played his trade
Lookin' for heaven on a silver plate
Roll over again
If only he knew it didn't have to be that way
Ohh, the promised land
Was just another slice of the cake
[Chorus:]
Round and round,
It's always round and round we go
(round and round we go)
Yeah, where it leads us
Nobody knows
(nobody) No, no,
Dance and dance
Why must we dance our lives away
(dance our lives away)
How much it bleeds us
No-one can say
(say say say say)
Jezebel made her way,
Sliding around on dirty sheets all day
So roll over again
(Ow!)
She lived for years
With the fear
That real true love might never come her way
Roll over again
(1,2,3,4)
If only she knew it didn't have to be that way
Yeah, and true romance
Was just another slice of the cake
[Chorus]
You and me,
Chasing dreams
We can't see the forest for the trees
We roll over again
(yeah)
Me and you
Dance so well
Just like John and Jezebel
We roll over again
(whoa-oh-oh-oh, let's dance!)
[Chorus]
No one can say
Love it!
It would have done so well if they had allowed its release.
Todo genial como siempre..
This single never came out. It was abandoned a few days before release.
Alannah was so cool back then.
Awesome!
Whoa this 12"single is supposed to be ultra-rare!!
How did you get this track!!! This so should have been a single!!
EN MI MODESTA OPINION, EL MEJOR TEMA DE LA BANDA.
