You have a new suscriptor. I have a 318 ti e46, your videos are very interesting, please film more, you have my like.
Tnx! I will post more DIY videos on another 316ti car i have in the near future so stay tuned:)
@@BimmerZen Same here, I have the same engine as you and it is very difficult to find tutorials for 4 cylinder E46's. It is always for 330 or 325 but those are completely different to work on.
@@illdoyouhere I'll have a couple more videos on N42 timing, seals, chain replacement and valvetronic in the near future;)
@@BimmerZen Great! I'm going to try to replace my motor mounts in a few weeks so this tutorail will come in handy. I hope I can do it because I have no professional equipment available.
Can a bad coil cause similar vibration to bad engine mounts?
The bottom engine mount nuts bruh. I hate them. Both were extremely rusted and it was a pain to get them out. Still managed to pull it off tho. Good video.
Its been awhile bimmerzen.im that guy from phils.we talked on i.g how are you my friend😇 i did that n42 valve seal a long time ago.more power man
From research, it appears those 8 bolts holding the reinforcement tray need to be replaced when they are removed. You may want to add that note to the beginning of the video as I was trying to find torque specs, had the car jacked up ready to go, and now find I should really have the new bolts on hand ready to go.
You are correct, the manual specifies that those bolts should be replaced. In practice however, they almost never are and it seems like it's not a problem.
On the E92 do you need to jack the engine from below as well? Or is the support car enough?
My kid managed to crack the support bracket that holds the mount. Is there a video on that here or anywhere? I can't find it and it seems like a similar process but would love something to watch and reference. If not, I'll hire someone to do it. thanks.
Aluminium mount from engine to the rubber mount?
What torque specs for the log nut, lower and upper? Thanks for the video
Upper nut (engine mount to engine support arm): 56 Nm
Lower nut (engine mount to front axle support): 28 Nm
Why use a support bar since you can jack up the engine?
True, at the time i wasnt sure if the oil pan can take it
Nice one! Would the same engine support bar lift the engine enough to replace the oil pan gasket? bviously after removing the front axle!
Yes. I used the same support bar to lift the engine up when I changed my oil pan gasket.
How much cm you can lift the engine? 10cm?
Hi. I need to change my N42 engine mounts as well. Would you recommend the Febi ones you have installed? Are they still performing well? If yes, where did you order them as wouldn't want to buy a Chinese knock-off of some fishy eBay store.
Thanks!
My original mounts weren't as bad as i thought. In my subjective opinion i have a little bit more vibration in idle with the new Febi Bilstein ones. Maybe the rubber is a bit stiffer because they are new. I would still recommend this brand or other well known german brands, don't bother buying cheap Chinese parts... I've bought mine on Autodoc web page.
Hi. Thanks for the video. Just wondering how safe it is to lift the N46 engine from oil pan. Mine looks like the oil pan is made of metal sheet and not flat bottom surface as compared to other oil pans I have seen with solid cast iron or th with flat bottom. Did you actually use the wood support bar from above to pull the engine up for space to remove the mounts?
It's risky to support it at oil pan, I suggest using support bar. I did use wooden bar in this case but I've bought a proper metal support bar now:)
bro i did this myself and its was a roller coaster of emotions but i got it done
😆
good job !
Thank you!
Good but you should never support your engine by the sump.
Good job !! 👌👍
When you re-install the secondary air valve, do i need a new gasket or i can re-use the old one?
I ordered also the same febi mounts 😉
I would replace this gasket, you can easily do it later if you dont have it right now.
@@BimmerZen thanks for the fast reply 👍
I have the n42b20a engine but im searching the net for this gasket.
But i can't find ... 😕
@@yasinavci9051 try searching for OEM number 11727510374. Or try calling your local BMW dealer's spare parts department.
@@BimmerZen You are my hero !! 👌
Did you changed also the transmission mounts? Im thinking for doing it also when im already working on the engine mounts. 🙂 ( not so expensive at autodoc )
When im shifting i can hear sometimes a small 'clunk' sound. Or maybe its because the engine mounts are bad..
