You deserve a medal for this video-it’s the best one I’ve seen explaining how to use this flash. Thanks for sharing the party! Definitely saving this one.
Vanessa did a great job showing how this flash is for soccer moms who always have a toddler in one arm and don’t know anything about photography, which is clearly who Canon designed this for. I personally give female photographers much more credit than that.
wow. so mums carry their toddlers and take photos at the same time. this is not who Canon designed it for. it's who can benefit from this. but it's unrealistic to think that a parent would carry a toddler to take photos. that's just irresponsible because you need to take care of the kid, not prioritizing the shot.
i definitely want this flash for my canon 80d i'm going to start saving my money so i can buy this flash i like how it bounce around i can't wait to get it
I loved this video good explanation to how it works and great to see example images of shadow pictures and how this flash eradicates that👍🏻 I’ve ordered this today, thanks so much for the video, I’ve also subscribed
I agree with Nuno Carneiro says by the time the flash lines up the kid would have moved or dog. I think it really matters on what your photographing. For what I do a $100.00 flash will work fine. When is Canon going to catch up? So many people leaving for sony. Whats going on canon?
What a joke. 5 years I've been hearing all these users leaving canon. But canon still rules the market, still over 50% of all cameras sold are made by canon. Canon still sells over 10 million lenses per year. The only place all these users are leaving canon is in your dreams.
Also is wireless just set it on a table and point it up and back and shoot the party no hassles for those complaining it takes too long to work for a faster photo shoot. .

Just a question, I new in taking picture currently using R5 as my first mirrorless canon camera. Can I use this flash on r5? I hope you can help me. Thanks
Hi Tim! The operation of the 470EX-AI will vary depending on the Canon camera model used. Our friendly support team can help you setup the speedlite for your cameras. You can reach them through your My Canon Account at the link here: canon.us/account We hope this information helps!
90% of the time, for me it goes into 135 degrees (back angle) in full auto, I noticed in this video it did the same. If you have a regular flash, just do this 90% of the time and you virtually have a 470EX :-)
Yeah, I just got my hand on a 470ex-ai and I thought it was broken because it's always shooting the ceiling just behind the camera, like you said, a back angle. I do like the build quality, how it attaches to the camera (very fast locking lever) and how fast it can fire the next flash. I tested it with the Canon M50 on low speed continuous (focus priority) 22mm f2 pancake lens at 1/125 and 100 iso in a basement with just enough light to let the autofocus work well and it gave me about 2 very nice pictures per second. I'm coming from a $40 flash that's now 8 years old and has served me extremely well but I must say I think the ai portion of this is kind of useless. Now I have to see how much I could have saved with a different canon flash.
I love the part where she is holding her child on one arm and using the camera on the other .and as she changes the flash in auto mode I thought the flash was going to spin around an aim right at the Childs face she cant see where it is aiming this as she is looking through the camera at the time.. Have a look
Hi, Britain! The automated movement is exclusive to the Speedlite 470EX-AI. As for the lens, we have the EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens that Vanessa appears to be using in stock right now. You can order it today at canon.us/3F47Two Hope this helps!
Hi there! The Speedlite 470EX-AI can be used with any Canon EOS Digital SLR. However, Full-Auto AI-Bounce will only work with some of the newest models. For older models, you can still use AI-Bounce, but in Semi-Auto. We hope this information helps!
This Speedlite works only with old Canon transmitter mark ii and the transmitter still cost over $200. Is this flash compatible with Flashpoint R2 mark ii trigger ? Because it is only $80. If it compatible, what receiver should I get to connect with this setup? And I use Canon 6D mark ii l, so does the auto bounce with work properly with my camera? Thanks.
Hi Sotthea: Canon does not test its Speedlights for compatibility with third party transmitters, so you may want to check with the manufacturer of your transmitter. If you wish to use the compatible Canon product, the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 will allow you to control the Speedlite 470EX-AI off-camera. We hope this helps.
i used my flash today in manual mode and adjusted the flash by hand and it made the exact same sound as 3:48. i was worried that i maybe adjusted too fast and maybe damaged some internal parts. Can you tell me, if it's bad for the motors, when it makes this sound? I appreciate a reply.
Hello; You can manually adjust the flash head position, but you must make the flash settings listed on pages 61-62 of your speedlite instruction manual. Here is a shortcut: Canon.us/ruy77. Please take note of the cautions listed on page 62. If you have any additional questions you may want to contact our camera support agents at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) Monday - Friday 9:00 am to 9:00 pm ET. Saturday 9:00 am to 7:00 pm ET, excluding holidays. We hope you find this useful.
Hello Frank: If you have followed the steps on pages 43-44 of the speedlite manual, and it still will not function, you may want to contact our camera support agents. (Here is a link to the manual - Canon.us/fhsrz ) The camera agents can walk you through the flash setup. For support you can log into your My Canon Account and register your product. Here is a link: Canon.us/mcahy Once registered click on your product and then select [Product Support] in the Product Details window You can then choose your preferred method of support such as phone, email or chat. Hi there! The Speedlite 470EX-AI uses standard AA/R6 batteries. Depending on the quality/charge of the batteries, you might expect anywhere from 115 to 800 flashes before they need to be changed. We hope this helps!

Swasti Das Frankly, the product is not aimed at people looking for radio transmission, rather people, regular people who just want to improve their flash photos and aren’t interested in becoming more involved with learning photography. Is it for everyone? No. Is it right for a large chunk of people that fall under the afore mentioned category? Yup! Just because a company doesn’t develop every product for pros or even advanced amateurs, doesn’t make it a bad product. It fulfills a need for many, perhaps not you and that’s okay.
