I took a little walk through Buzzard's Roost, a nature preserve here in Chillicothe, Ohio. I brought my Polaroid SX-70 and one pack of film with plans to shoot the entire pack and share all of my results with you guys. Things didn't really go as planned... Let's talk about it.
Big thanks to Brooklyn Film Camera for the SX-70 Repair!

Great content as always mate! Watching this reminded me of a qoute from the great Mr Erwitt. 'The whole point of taking pictures is so that you don’t have to explain things with words.' Safe to apply this logic here 😉

Funny story about my SX-70: my family is from Yugoslavia. My grandfather loved photography and swore by his Soviet Zenit TTL. Western products were extremely hard to come by in that time. Luckily for my grandfather he was invited to an international summit for psychologists in London somewhere during the 70s. It was there that he managed to pick up an SX-70 together with some film. I think it’s safe to say he got himself something one of a kind to take back home. Definitely not going to let go of that camera any time soon :)

Fun to hear about your SX70 shoot.
The famous Polaroid SX70. I saw one demonstrated by Mr. Land himself the summer of 1970, a year before camera was released for sale. I just happened to be walking by the Polaroid building in Boston, and he was showing a small group of men the SX70. I stopped to watch. It was so unusual I didn't even know it was a camera. He was making the point to his business colleagues that anyone could operate it, so he stepped out of the group and handed the camera to me and told me to take their picture. So I did. The camera scrolled out a photo that was fully developed in just a minute. I was amazed, and so were those business men.
In a later decade I came across one in a second hand shop and got it. Used it for about 15 years, until digital cameras got affordable in the late 90s.
I recently gave mine to a neighbor who collects old cameras.

When I go out shooting with my SX-70, I always have it set up with a Peak Design camera strap so I can have both hands free when hiking. I carry it cross-body so it's secure. It doesn't guarantee the camera can't get damaged should I fall, but it does give me a better chance than hand-carrying. Also, I can use the strap to help stabilize the camera better in low-light situations. When I'm getting really serious, I'll mount it on a tripod & use the remote release that Polaroid made for the SX-70. I've made some images in extremely low-light situations that way. It's really good to hear that you're getting out & about on a regular basis since your health issues from last year (I don't care much for ticks...or mosquitos). Glad to hear you're doing so much better these days. You had all of us scared!

First, glad you were not injured in the fall! Second, glad the camera was not damaged :-). Finally, thanks for deciding to share this. There is an appreciation for the process that is missing in a lot of life. Making art is not as easy as "pushing the shutter" and while the image is ultimately what matters, it is helpful for aspiring artists to understand that work is required!

I bought an sx-70 about two years ago and about two weeks ago I shot my first pack of film (expired Polaroid 779). Before that I had no idea if the camera worked, so it was exhilarating to see the "darkslide" shoot out of it. Everything where I live is three times as expensive as it is in the US, so I won't be shooting any more until I go visit my dad. However bad the exposures were (mainly because of the film), I have to say I everything about this camera; from its design to the way it operates, it's just a wonderful experience. I'm glad you didn't break your again!

It looks like you tend to open the camera by grabbing the viewfinder at the very end, which of course will put more torque on the top casing than if you pulled closer to the middle of it.
