Well these feativals have been takin place for ages, Its a part of culture . Elephants are treated well and they are better handled than those elephants employed in timber mills and zoos. Its during the Mast that elephants go wild. With some regulations the mast Elephants are not included in festivals.
It is different from bull fights, here the elephants are not tortured , except that they do have to stand long hours.
