I picked up the very same just a few months back. It reminds me of my first car, a 91 cavalier. All manual ammenities, 4 banger... it makes me forget I'm 41 and I feel 16 again. Nostalgia is real. I love this little truck. :D
@m V absolutely. I'm looking for another S10 to use as my daily work truck as I'm starting to build and customize my 97. It's the perfect little truck to start up a lawn care business with. It might be worth stepping up to a zr2 4x4. Great little 4x4s with lots of heart and can handle lawn recycling dumps with very few worries.
i owned an '03 S10 with a 4.3L V6 paired with a 4-speed auto and it was my daily driver... until it got totalled in a crash last June... How totalled did it get? Imagine a sheet of paper, crumple that sheet of paper, and burn it. Yeah...it was that bad...
I am the 2nd owner of a 03 S10 LS 4.3L 2rwd. Got her at roughly at 165k. Very good truck! I had to do the intake manifold gasket at 225k, which was leaking coolant. Fuel pump at about 205k. No other issues, built like a rock!! She is now at 248k. and still goes like a rocket!!
Other than annoying things like many exhaust gaskets, front bearings, these trucks are hard to beat. Mine is 02 S-10 ext cab 3rd door, short bed with 238,000 miles 4.3 Vortec. Sounds brand new, zero knocks, or ticks. Which sucks when u want to 5.3 swap it.
@@yasasrathnayake perhaps you should consider taking better care of it or fixing things early. Before they cost more. Or doing a better job of choosing a vehicle to purchase. I don’t have a Mustang GT, because I can’t afford a new one. But I’m not gonna settle for a ragged out POS as almost every used one is.
@@wkymole3 Well this is the sixth month I am using it. Now both abs and break light turned on it is a repair that worth 8k. Or i don't get abs. But I did my regular maintenance so far. Like regular oil changes, flush the radiator. Replace idler arms.
I bought my S-10 brand new in 2002. It was October and new 2003 were arriving so mine was on sale. $11K plus tax. It is the short bed and regular cab. It is the LS model. It has the 2.2 Liter with 5 speed standard transmission. I live in the south so there is no rust or whatsoever. The rims are five spoke aluminum. It actually has only 114K miles in the odometer. I took public transportation to work so I only drove it 3 miles a day to the bus terminal for 12 years before I retired. I have been driving this truck to Canada every year. 2K miles round trip. It also has taken me to Florida several times and Texas as well. Mostly highway miles but it is my regular daily driver around here as well. At 100K miles I got new spark plugs, wires and brakes replaced. I believed I replaced tires (Michelin) 3 times since new. Changed oil every 5K miles. The radiator was replaced because the glue holding the plastic dried. The color is pewter with black interior. It's been an excellent vehicle. Never abused and changed gears decently so clutch has never been replaced. I have it for 19 years now. I love my little truck.
My first S10 was a 1985. I bought it brand-new for $6,100 and drove it for 12 years. It was super-stripped, had an Isuzu 4-cylinder engine, two-wheel drive and manual transmission. It got like a thousand miles per gallon and never gave me ANY trouble. It ALWAYS started, even on our sub-zero Minnesota winter days and nights. My second S10 is a 2001 LS 4X4 with full crew cab. I bought it used for $5,000 and am still driving it 10 years later. With the 4-wheel-drive and a good set of tires, not even a horrific Minnesota snowstorm can stop it, which is perfect for me as I am a first responder and need to be able to get to work no matter what the road conditions are. Thanks for the awesome, informative video!
Damn, I also have an 01 crew cab 4wd and it is just the BIGGEST piece of shit I've ever owned. The whole truck needs about $6000 worth of work done even though it has 88k miles. Yeah. Great cosmetic shape also. Everyone keeps saying how great of trucks these are but I must have got the absolute worst one ever made because literally everything on it needs something done to it. I've owned it about 3 years now but really have only driven it about one year collectively because it's always sitting and breaking down on me. Name something on the truck, I guarantee you it needs to be replaced
I have a 2001 extended cab 2.2 4 banger auto with a/c. At 136K they'll have to pry my cold dead fingers from it.... I absolutely LOVE it. Only VERY MINOR repairs. Replaced the battery, replaced the serpentine belt and tensioner, replaced the 3rd door opener latch with after market metal, brakes, gas, oil and tires. The absolute best vehicle I've ever owned at 68 years old. This vehicle converted me from a STAUNCH MOPAR GUY to a Chevy guy. EXCELLENT Vehicle. If mine should ever die, I'll look for another one with a 4.3 V-6. Terrific little truck !
I watched just to see the common failures for the 4.3 s10 and you hit the head on the nail brother. My intake gasket failed at 222k miles and had to replace. Other than that, my 2000 4x4 s10 has given 0 issues. Regular oil changes and tire rotations... thing is a champ. With 222k miles I've only done a radiator change, water pump, thermo housing, thermostat, and my cats got clogged so I sawzalled and straight piped it (live in Florida) and the thing still runs like a champ at 222k miles I drive it to work everyday 60 miles. Oh and orginal AC still blowing.
I love my s10 with extended cab 4.3 engine. Its a great size for a small truck and I love the long bed. It has good size tires which I like. I've had it for 20 years and still runs great.
Bought mine new in 03, Sonoma zr2 4x4. Only new car I've ever bought. Drove it for a couple months, I hen moved back east and gave it to my dad. He hadn't had a new car in years, and I had my 100 year anniversary dyna super glide to ride. Dad used to drive it to my house a couple times a week. He liked the track, so it got exhaust, chipped, racing brake system, multispark ignition, you name it. Dad passed in 2020 at the beginning of coviid, and I had to be executor to get his affairs in order. He had multiple vehicles, suburban, Yukon, 2 bmw bikes(he bought the 05 r1150r rockstar to ride cross country with me when I moved home a 2nd time. 2 boats, and multiple storage units. I found the Sonoma with two old box trucks in a storage yard close to the house. Completely loaded down with stuff inside and out, all tires flat, intake manifold in pieces in truck, both box trucks were the same. My buddy helped me tow it to my house after I paid storage, and we got it fired up that day. The sound of the hi flow exhaust brought tears. Same sound as when dad used to pull up. I spent the next year+ putting that truck back together. Spent over 15k. Just got back from a road trip to Colorado with my 600lbs Honda rancher 4x4 in the bed. 4k miles roundtrip in 11 days. Odometer now reads 196k, and I wouldn't sell this truck for less than I paid new in LA when I bought it. Typical Sonoma issues being vacuum system, spiderweb injectors, blew the tranny cooler and had to rebuild, vacuum ball replaced in Colorado. These are pieces of functional artwork, and mine will be on the road for as long as I can find parts for it.
I have a 92 s10 extended cab (tahoe trim) 2.8 5 speed(230k miles) parked at the moment waiting for a 6.0 swap been looking for ideal parts. And have my 2002 blazer Xtreme (51k original miles)
Since you have 3 maybe you can help me I don’t know if you have had this problem but I have a 2002 s10 extended cab 2.2 4 cylinder 5 speed manual transmission with 180k miles on it and I’ve recently had the head gasket changed since it was leaking oil from there and now it’s leaking oil from the back lower part of the engine like in the middle and I was wondering if you had this problem or if anyone had this problem and if I could get any help I would be very appreciative thank you
Just got my first one about 13 hours ago it's a 97 with 18000 miles and you hardly hear the engine start its so quit in perfect condition I love it under the hood looks great
I love my 2003 Zr2 4.3L manual. The manual allows you to get more out of the engine. It has a 153,000 miles on it now and I have owned it for 10 years, it has been a great truck!
Great info on the coolest best mini truck ever made!, I bought my 2002 s-10 standard cab, 4.3 eng. W/62.000+ miles 2017. Black very good cond. A 1 owner truck w/no rust. Was looking for a daily driver that I could put my other chevy wheels & bigger tires on, w/no problem! First actual truck ever owned. Don't really like what came out as mini truck ( colarado ) 0'4 on!!!!. Chevy dropped the ball!!! As far as small trucks go!!!. Thanks again!!.
Love my black '96 s10 ext cab LS model with the 4.3L 'X' code engine (2WD). In the process of doing a full restoration. Making it to look like a SS with the black grill but still retaining the "Z85" payload. Upgrades include: trailblazer front brake system (a bit pricey but totally recommend it.) Upgrade the rear end from a one wheel peel to a limited slip diff w/axle hop shock bracket. BILSTEIN shocks all around. Zq8 gear box, zq8 front and rear sway bars and zq8 mid frame bar. Installed Zq8 2nd design 16" x 8" 5 spoke wheels on goodyear eagle all season tires. 3rd anti-hop shock install. Did a complete engine rebuild with a melling oil pump. Upgrade injector setup (soon to do a marine intake upgrade) ECM tune. EGR delete. Electric fan set up. This truck is doing a combine 21mpg hwy/city. The trans is still the stock 4l60E but next year I will have it built to tow. Truck just turned over 200k. Looking to get a 8.5" rear disc rear end out of blazer and do interior upgrades at least on the seat to a 98-04. Installed a trans temp gauge and swapped the orginal cluster with one that has a tach gauge. The only thing I wish this truck had was the 3rd door and was stick but I'm so far very pleased with it for owning it 5 years now. Will be shooting a video on what it has been going on with it, possibly posting it on youtube!
Currently have a 2001 Sonoma crew cab, with 180,000 miles. Only major problem was the transmission. Previous owner probably never changed the transmission fluid. I did and it solved the problem.
Hello all you Chevy S10 owners. I truly love my truck. It's a 2000 4.3 . Reg cab Long bed. It's My all-around work n cruiser truck. It has 165897 miles and it still runs great. Of course I had to replace a few parts like any other vehicle. Wear n tear but one hell of a truck. I'm still looking for a fourwheel S10. Cause me and my dogs love to go camping. Thank you Steners.
I love my 99 4cyl 5speed ext cab..I use it daily for work with 400lbs in the back at all times"airshocks are key". It's slow but has decent torque and the 5speed helps it to get going. Imo much better then the 4cyl rangers iv had!
I bought a new 1995 GMC Sonoma V6, automatic, in late '94. Basically the same truck as an S10. I babied it, and did regular maintenance. I still own it with 175K miles on it. But I have replaced just about everything on it, sometimes a couple of times. Everything from the transmission, AC compressor (twice), starter, motor mounts, radiator (twice), water pump, wheel bearings, axle shafts, alternator (twice), ABS computer, master cylinder (twice), brake booster, muffler, wiper controller, head gasket, distributor, and fuel pump. Probably more stuff I have forgotten about. But engine is still solid. You be the judge.
ive got a 1991 S10 Blazer price bought 800$ 1200$= new comp 4l80e transmission with shift kit 4500$= LS1 engine swap with modes cam, springs, low pro intake manifold 650hp 1000$=new back window, headliner, security system, window motors, weather seals all i need left is a paint job and i will have a new truck without spending 20+k and good luck getting the hp for under 100,000$ I paid 7500$ for a almost new truck P.S weights only 100ibs more than a corvette with more horsepower and still naturally aspirated only
If you are able to find a ZR2 99-2005 Blazer in good condition buy it. These vehicles were the flagship for those years offered by Chevy in the S10 model series. They sold for anywhere from $25k to 30K. The Blazer ZR2 was offered in the 2 door model only which has one of the best design looks ever offered in S10s. It also has a factory lift kit with wide stance. The ZR2 S10 Blazer was used by search and rescue teams and agencies all over the US for their amazing 4x4 abilities and its dependability.
@@tave9011no it has a gov locker which senses when one wheel spins it engages but will disengage when you let off or exceed a fast enough speed. They work but not like a real posi/ limited slip.
I am original owner of a 03 ZR/2. It is my 4th S-10. These are great little trucks. Fairly easy to work on. I've never regretted any of my S-10's but my O3 will be the last truck I will buy. New trucks are just crazy expensive. Mine runs and looks great still. It could use a little more power but the V-6 is torquey and it will tow a trailer well if you aren't in a huge hurry. I towed a 3000# trailer from NC to AK and back with no problems.
@@Dehztroyed If it still has the original engine, you'd have about another 60, 000 miles to go AT BEST. There are many used and rebuilt engines available for swap but unless you can do the work yourself, you'd be quickly over the value of the truck paying for that kind of work to be done. There are lots of other things that wear out also. So if your are experienced mechanic, go for it, if not, find something else.
Mine is a 1998, much like the one shown in the video except it's an extended cab. But it has the green paint, and trim. I personally think 1998 was the best year as far as looks (it has the most chrome on the front for that body type) very reliable vehicle, I love it! Only downside is the doors are too heavy and keep breaking the door pin bushings!
I drive my '97 S-10 4.3L manual every day. It has 277K miles and it keeps going despite lots of hard use. My father bought it new and I bought a second one just for parts. I'll keep driving it until there is nothing left but a pile of rust.
I have an 02 s10 xtreme with a brand new 4.3 v6, just installed at about 300k miles! Next comes a little paint work and new 20” wheels! I love s10’s and I’ll be riding this one for several years.
I own a ‘97 Chevy S10 extend cab. It is the manual 2.2. So it is a gas sipper. Dealing with an engine overhaul right now. But has a brand new tranny, clutch, all new suspension. And the interior is like new! I love my little truck!
I paid 3600 for 02 ext cab s10 4.3 auto at 125k mi. Have had it for years. I take care of it mechanically and maintain it. But I give it hell, day it, day out. It has 330k miles now. Finally starting to get a small tick but still strong oil pressure. Looking for another 1 now and want to air ride, ls swap 1 of them.
I own a '99 2.2l 5-speed! LOVE IT! Bought brand new when they rolled the '99's on lot and still running strong. Been through about 6 fuel pumps, 4 sets of tires, plenty of brake pads, and a few batteries! My only complaint is the door bushings!! Replaced 3 times already. Need to have the striker bolt welded before it completely comes off, but I wouldn't trade it for the world!
Iv'e got a 2001 S10 ZR2 I bought in 2003 with 27,000 miles on it. Matching Indigo Blue ARE topper. Drove it a lot for a few years but it was in such nice shape I pretty much parked it and bought a 2001 subaru outback to be my daily driver. no regrets. Both are well maintained and I do 98% of my own work on them. ZR2 has 83,0000 miles on it and the subi has 288,XXX on it and runs like a top.
Have a 2001 s10 bought new. 19 years and still great truck. Only real expense was replacing engine gaskets recently. I've kept my oil and filters changed regularly. I've had to replace battery every 4 to 5 years. Replaced fuel pump assy. Replaced ball bearings. Really haven't spent a lot over the years with this truck. Someone with Chevrolet said this was one of the best trucks made. Wish they still made them because I like the small trucks. The inside of my truck still looks good.
I bought a 2001 LS 4.3 S10 regular cab in 2003 with 28000 miles from the original owner. They had done regular maintenance, and I have also maintained the truck very well, changing the oil every 3000-3500 miles. Today it’s still my daily driver. I’m a car guy, so it still looks almost as good as it did new, and runs great. I’ve had to replace some of the bolt on’s, but have never been in the motor. I have added Barr’s Leak to it every now and then, and still haven’t had to replace the intake gasket, even though I’m at over 338,000 miles. The rear end whines a little, and the tranny is starting to act up sporadically by toggling in and out of overdrive or high gear when in a slight pull. I still like my old S10 today as much as the day I bought it. My intentions are to never sell it, and the plan is to LS swap it in 2026 when it’s 25 years old and no longer has to be emissions tested, (I live in metro Atlanta.) So it goes without saying that I highly recommend these little trucks. Before you buy, just try and make sure the maintenance has been done on a regular basis. I would want that information to have been documented if possible. S10’s are great vehicles as long as they’re cared for and maintained.
Odd how those are your comments... RUclips and google are the same thing. I'm sure you can piece together why you see this video if you've been talking about your S10 or have done some part searching for the truck
@@garycarter7087 I knew YT was a Google brand, no I never searched anything about it, only mentioned in the comment here. But I use the same algorithms to target buyers, and sellers on FB, not a surprise. Need to learn it on the other end through adsense, and other CRM/SEO needs for marketing.
Had a black 1998 stepside ext cab s10 with the 4.3l and manual transmission. Bought it for 600 bucks, one of my favourite trucks I've owned . Just bought a 2000 gmc sonoma reg cab longbox automatic with the 4.3 only 173,000kms for 900 bucks . Well see how this one does
97 S10 4.3L 5speed. I put a Torsen differential from a Camaro in the rear axle. So it doesn't get stuck on wet grass anymore. Mine has 200k on it. I've always maintained it well. No dents good paint and interior. The A/C broke years ago,I never bothered fixing it. I did have to replace the distributor & I replaced the intake gaskets before they started leaking. One of the front springs is bad. I have new ones,I just haven't had time to replace those lately. I'm going to replace the ball joints while I have it apart. I'll probably just keep driving it until the wheels fall off.
I did the same on my 93. I found a basically new Torsen take out from a local gear and rear end shop. Installed it and had a blast. Would do sweet fish tails in the rain because the truck had no damn weight in the back. Bought the truck as a project in 2002. Did a lot of work and had a lot of fun in it. I parted it out in 2014 after some assholes broke into it and broke the dash stealing the stereo. We couldn't find a descent dash to replace mine so insurance paid me for all the stolen stereo stuff and I parted it out and made some money back and funded my 4X4 project.
@@geoffmooregm I still have mine, this is 5 months later. It developed a medium oil leak and one of the heads cracked. I decided to buy a reconditioned engine and fix it. I was looking around for another vehicle and it's hard to find a good vehicle for under $10k. Seems like people want mint for high mileage or salvage rebuilt vehicles. I wouldn't buy one of those. Probably just buying somebody else's problems. I took a week off, started swapping it out today. Still working on your 4x4 project?
You kind of mentioned it later when talking about the bed lengths. The single cab-long bed was only made for 2 yrs. 94-95. Basically has the same frame as the extended cab version but a longer 7.5' bed. Great ifyou wanted a tool box attached and still have a out a 6' working bed to use. My 94 GMC Sonoma was that configuration.
Have a green 97 ls 4.3 vortex and loves to be pushed at 250,000 miles goes 0-100 in 15 second automatic gear change is in the floor only thing ive changed is water pump and head gaskets been a good lil work truck for me love my girl shes reliable
My first vehicle ever was a 98 s10. Great little truck and I loved it. I actually have a 99 Sonoma now, which is essentially the exact same truck with different branding and a few slight cosmetic differences, same on the inside though. Both the V6 and the 2.2l 4 cylinder engines were fantastic, and the 5-speed manual variants were tough as hell.
Bruh the 4.3 I have won’t die, has 198,800 miles on it, and it still has a little UMPH when you press the gas. 2001 Extended Cab. Looks the best in black too
I've had 3 Chevy s10 s and reliable is true 4.3 iron horse!!! But I did drop 12k into my crew cab engine and trans and drive shift and other..why??? Cause I know it will run like champ til 2030 . Things that I've experienced to look out for are.....as mentioned intake gasket. But also this list! Definitely alternators, fuel pump, upper and lower ball joints, water pump, lifters sticking, rear diff cover rust and seal leak, trans seal, abs module? ( in progress) replace radiator, tensioner etc... misc i did was Bilsten 4600 shocks, switched to synthetic oil at 95k, and transmission to synthetic fluid, brakes total assembly and hoses etc, sway bar link, summit tune up with iridium platinum sparks, k&n regular air filter, not the exposed one kept it stock..why there's no difference. Custom battery yellow top, What I plan to do is to get long Tube headers with a high flow cat and magnaflow 50 or 60 exhaust also a custom intake where they have that lip inside And rather removed some more air can get in the carb! A true cold air intake by putting a hose from the air Box under the vehicle to a opening port in front hidden like a jet engine. that is true cold air intake! this is what happens when you hang out with guys with show cars and pros A computer programmer to be plugged in don't know who or brand do yet! Mechanically that's it... what I do suggest is in your quarter panels the rocker panel in inside your bed to buy fluid film and spray the hell out of inside of those areas and underneath the vehicle sand frame down the metal used the chemical to convert back to metal use alcohol to clean it then spray nutrarust and then put raptor liner on it and then spray fluid film so I doesn't rust ...also plan on putting custom rims, Custom stereo with rear camera and custom lights all around....plus custom body parts,, hood, tonneau, front spoiler, mirrors, New bumper!!! ....most reliable truck of all time...
I own a 2001 ZR2 that is incredible, ive owned a number of differant pick ups, Ford, Dodge, Toyota, but i have never owned a pick up as bullet proof and depedible as this pick up, it now has 125.000 miles, it literally will go any where, my pick up is so quick that i thought it was a V8 when i first got it, i have never had a pick upor automoble as fantastic as my 2001 ZR2, if i could buy another one i would, if any one has one for sail i would like to get it! The best work horse a nice looking pick up that drives like a car, quiet, smooth, and quick as hell!
Thanks algorithm but I’m good! Had a 2001 4.3 5 speed for years as my daily. Now Ive moved on to a Denali for my daily but I’ve got a project 2002 blazer ZR2 with a 5.3 in it! No need to sell me I love this body!
I currently own a ‘98 S10 4x4 with 138,000 and a Blazer 4x4 with 153,000. Both vehicles have the 4.3 vortec engine. With regular maintenance these are great vehicles.
Years ago I had a 91 and 92 S10, one each. I got my 2003 about 6 years ago, 98,000 miles. Black model as the 2:00 mark. 2.2l Eco flo, 3rd door. Great economic vehicle.
I had a 95 2.2L 5 speed. I replaced the head twice and the fuel pump and the ignition switch. And I owned that truck for 11 years. I sold it to my Buddy George. He's still driving it now10yrs later. I sold it to him when it had 252k miles on it. Now it's got 340k on it. If I thought it was gonna last that much longer,I'd have kept it. In fact I didn't really want to sell it to him because of the high mileage. I missed that truck. I went out and bought a 97 4.3L 5 speed. It hasn't been as reliable as the 2.2L. I've spent kind of alot on fixing this one. It's never left me stranded though. Except for that one time it got stuck on muddy wet grass when I went fishing out in the middle of nowhere. LOL. Had to sacrifice the floor mats to get out.
@@barbiesawada5916 Put a 1997 head on it. They are cast in sand. The 94 to 96 head is cast in styrofoam and they get porous spots. Also you need to replace the head bolts every time you put a new head gasket on and they are torque to yield bolts so you need a good torque wrench and a breaker bar and a torque angle meter. If you don't do that it wil leak every time. Or crack the head
@@Thundarr995 well, one of the cylinders is seized up and engine is toast since water got into the engine. Already have a rebuilt 5.3 , mild cam , newer intake and throttle body, electric fans and so on. 4L60E is being replaced with a newer one , old one has a 1 piece Bell housing that won't bolt up to the 5.3. Also the 7.5 is coming off and being replaced with a Ford 8.8 , at least now I'll have a limited slip with better gearing for better mileage. 4:10 is pitiful, going with a 3:42 or a 3:53 set up..
@@barbiesawada5916 I didn't realize you are modding it. I changed the gear ratio in mine also. I put 3.42 in it with a Zexel Torsen carrier out of a SLP Camaro. If I was gonna do it again I'd go with a 3.73. It really doesn't matter whatever ratio you choose. Dakota Digital makes a little electronic box to recalibrate your speedometer. You may need one to get your 4l60E to shift correctly. Otherwise your shift points will be all messed up. I have one. I needed it to recalibrate my speedometer. My truck came with 3.08 gears. They even make one that adapts an old TH350 to electronic speedometer. It's good quality,I been using mine for about 2yrs and no issues. I just replaced the 4.3L in mine. I was thinking about getting a 5.7L Vortec. I just don't really have the time to mess around with it. The 4.3L is ok. It does what I need it to do. The 4.3L is a tight fit by itself. I think I'd probably have to take the front end off grill, bumper, radiator core support and whatever else that would get in the way? To make anything bigger fit in that engine bay. Right now I'm working on getting the A/C to work again. The compressor went bad years ago. Next I'm gonna replace the ball joints and front springs. This truck is lucky because I was considering getting rid of it and buying something else. I was looking around for another truck, but I couldn't find anything for less than about $10k. Actually the old engine was still good. It needed new heads and the timing chain was sloppy and it had an oil leak. I replaced it because I didn't want to do all that work and put an engine that had 200k miles on it back in there. I'm breaking the engine in now. So far so good. No funny sounds and it's running good. I put about 165 miles on it. Good luck with your project. Actually I was just thinking. You may not need one of those Dakota Digital recalibration modules. I think the newer CPU are easier to reprogram than the older ones like mine has. You may even be able to reprogram it yourself with an Autel Maxi-pro bi-direcional diagnostic scanner. I have one I love it. It does alot of stuff, even runs the ABS pump for bleeding ABS brakes. It might be able to do that? I've never even thought about it until now.
Only reason I didn't go with a 4.3 is the fuel mileage , better mileage on a 5.3 and better upgrades available, not sure what gears we are using yet , either 3;42 or 3:53 , plan on changing out gauge cluster with a NVU , Dakota I've spoken to but their lead time is like 6 months now and they are expensive. Cluster that comes with the 5.3 is programmable to do deletes and change tire sizes and gear sizes. 4:10 and 3:73 are alittle to much for a little truck as a daily driver, 300 + horsepower on that light rear-end is alot , it's light enough that 3:53 gears in a Ford 8.8 will still launch extremely fast.
Barely ever see these in the rust belt anymore. Just bought one (best spec 4.3 4x4 5spd) for 400$. Frame still exists but everything else is disintegrating. So glad we don’t have inspections in Minnesota
My brother had a 2000 s10 lt ext cab with a sunroof (factory) and a 2.2 and a automatic and now my dad has a 99 s10 blazer lt fully loaded except the sunroof the 2.2 s10 was a absolutely badass 4 banger pickup that took a beating like rocky but sadly it slipped time and grenade'd itself and was scrapped my dream is to get my hands on a 2.2 s10 extreme standard cab with a manual
I had two 03 s10s I traded one and got a 1995 toyota tacoma which runs amazing. My other s10 is an 03 5speed manual with only 145k on it I gotta do some work to it but it's nothing crazy just gotta change drums/shoes breaklines ebrake assembly and ignition switch and shes good to go.
2000 S10 ZR2 I bought it new and it rusted out by 2015. We put a rust free body on it with a sweet paintjob and I still drive it today. I probably get more compliments on it now than I did when it was new. 216,000 miles original engine and trans still doesn't even burn oil.
I had a 2001 s10 crewcab red which I lifted for an off road mod and it did great off road for only having a open diff in the front. I for one didn't realize my engine mounts were bad in it though... Somehow the engine mounting was designed in a way that made it initially hard to tell if your engine mounts were gone (not just shot or worn out. I mean might as well not be there.) There wasn't any engine rattle or visible twisting. But the engine was practically sitting right on top of the front diff supported by the oil pan, it burst a hole in the pan large enough for mechanics to say it can't be patched but also small enough that I didn't notice it between oil changes since it was clogged with dirt. But also I don't really pay attention to if the oil pan is directly on the diff where it doesn't belong so there's that Because I didn't know the engine mounts were out it naturally raised the transmission and drive shaft up enough for the drive shaft to put enough strain on the rear diff and leak diff oil which in turn blew up my diff. Then the drive shaft started hitting my body, I did a 1 inch body lift which shouldn't do much of anything else to the truck and solved that problem after putting in a new complete rear axle. Then the engine fan broke and started hitting the body. I went through 3 radiators because of this until I had the time to get rid of that fan and replace it with an electric one. That's about the time I found out about the oil pan with the hole after changing the oil and cleaning the undercarriage to sell the truck. I replaced the engine mounts then the oil pan (which is a complete pain and not worth the time) then replaced the timing cover and gasket. But all of this work with the radiator and fan had already caused the truck to over heat. If you let this truck over heat just once, that engine will never be the same. Other engines can handle it better, but this engine made no effort to be strong after that point. It would constantly fume lock on me in the middle of the road and somtimes where I had no service. Fume locking is when the gas gets hot enough to boil and creates pressure and fumes before it reaches the combustion chamber. I'm not sure how hot gas needs to be to explode but the idea of fume locking is bad enough. Tldr: I don't trust this truck. One small problem ended up costing me somewhere between $6-7k in one year. It wasn't my idea to own this truck to begin with it was my dad's idea of having a project vehicle for the sake of "knowing what the read world is like" if your a person who doesn't know too much about mechanical work I honestly consider you lucky but with no hard feelings
im planning on buying a 2000 s10 zr2 thats got 146k miles on it, it looks really good and pretty rust free too so hopefully its for sale when i get paid lol It would be my first ever vehicle too!
My S10 has 350000 miles on her and I need to replace a secondary air pump which I don't have yet it's causing high idle. Then I have to replace all 4 ujoints and carrier bearing she will be good still a daily driver as is I have drive shaft parts once I fix both issues I can only imagine how smooth of a ride it will be bc she still drives no problem just loud squeak till 20 mph
Damn hope mine lasts that long. My carrier bearing detonated at 175k, it was loud as hell at first, thought it was brakes first, so those are perfect now LOL.
My first vehicle was a 1985 s10 blazer 2dr. Now currently own a 2000 s10 blazer 4dr 150k on it. 4.3 vortec can be a fast engine in these trucks. Need Cam, exhaust, air intake and 373-410 rear end gears. Can boost but will need to replace factory spider fuel system and intake manifold.
I really love my 2000 GMC Sonoma. But, its age is very apparent, and I don't have the funds to keep it going. It still runs well, but other systems are failing. ☹️ The paint needs to be redone, too. It has served me well, but, again, its age has caught up to it and me.
Mine is a 2001 green ZR2 with 203k on it, replaced fuel pump, O2 sensor, secondary air pump, battery, brakes, front bushings and steering box. Other then that it’s still@ beast.
@@davidpineda645 yes , the 2.2 is a joke , problems, no power and really the milage isn't anything to brag about, a 4.3 or a V8 swapped is the right way to go.
My 96 S-10 LS EC 4X4 has a new motor installed in 2009. Still running strong with 73,530 miles. Original transmission take great care of it. Has a new front end suspension system.
I have 3. (94 ZR2 reg cab short box pickup 400,000 km) (04 ZR2 Blazer 287,000 km) (05 LS Blazer 330,000 km) All very prone to RUST (Canada) but otherwise above average vehicles. Dependable. The RIGHT SIZE also - before everything got too big and too technical.
My 03 stick is NOTHING to BRAG about. But if you want a cheaaaap truck to do some personal labor with, and you like driving stick, this is a fun vehicle to drive around home
Good trucks. Until the security system fails! If that fails, you either spend a couple thousand to have the dealer replace it or you junk it. I love these trucks but the factory security system is what keeps me from owning another one.
Just bought a S10 Xtreme with 160,000 miles. It is Flamingo Orange and only spent $2,500. Absolutely love it.

Mine’s onyx black with gold stripes. 4.3L v6. Dad said “she’s yours” when I was 14. She’s my pride and joy.
Me and my grandpa are fixing up a 2000 s-10 with an extend cab (tan color) and it will be my first vehicle! I’m excited to start driving!
It is a good truck. Make sure to change the transmission fluid every 60,000 miles. It can run pretty much forever.
They are great trucks and once you fix all the kinks in it they run forever. Happy trails my friend!
Yo bro I'm also getting one and it'll be my first car and I can't wait to drive xD
The process of fixing an s10 never ends
I picked up the very same just a few months back. It reminds me of my first car, a 91 cavalier. All manual ammenities, 4 banger... it makes me forget I'm 41 and I feel 16 again. Nostalgia is real. I love this little truck. :D
I own a 97 S10. She has the 4.3 with an automatic. Even though she has over 250,000 miles, she still runs like new.

That would be a bit of an exaggeration. I have a 1994 I bought new with 171,000 miles on it that is a good truck but it doesn't go like a rocket.
My alternator just went out at 290k
I had a 2002 S10 extended cab long bed with the 4.3 v6. It was a great little truck. Loved it!! Never had one problem with it.
I have the long box regular cab. Didn’t know you can get long box with extended cab. That sounds sweet
My s10 has 90k miles it already showing all sorts of lights and I am going after one by one it is really expensive.
Your lucky, my 2.2 was a lemon 🍋
How is it on fuel
Huh
All that matters in FL is the AC. 😂
Mine also 99 with 210,000
I love my s10 with extended cab 4.3 engine. Its a great size for a small truck and I love the long bed. It has good size tires which I like. I've had it for 20 years and still runs great.
I’ve got a 2000 S-10 4.3L Automatic with 120K miles and it still runs awesome. A really nice little pickup.

I bought a new 1995 GMC Sonoma V6, automatic, in late '94. Basically the same truck as an S10. I babied it, and did regular maintenance. I still own it with 175K miles on it.

I hate the algorithm, YT isn't smart enough to know that I already own a S-10, no need to sell me one.
But on FB I know how to distort the settings, on Google I read it but I haven't dived into readjusting the Google/YT ads.
@@Thundarr995 Oh yea it will be a long term project.
I had two S-10's highly recommend.
I own a 2001 w 124k miles and I love it. The rear seat is a joke but the third door is pretty cool
My Chevy s10 have 291,000 miles , still going strong..
Have you ever had to change the motor or transmission? I just got one with 150k miles
I have one that has 220. I just changed the radiator and spider. Still runs great
@@FirstLast-wc7nr I haven't, I bought it with 212,ooo miles
Any major problems? My 95 has 230k with 5 speed and a 2.2
I will love the S10 and Gmc Sonoma till the end of time
I currently own a ‘98 S10 4x4 with 138,000 and a Blazer 4x4 with 153,000. Both vehicles have the 4.3 vortec engine. With regular maintenance these are great vehicles.
came here to study up on s chassis and ended up doing 45 mins of research on a concept truck that i need to build now....thanks
Years ago I had a 91 and 92 S10, one each. I got my 2003 about 6 years ago, 98,000 miles. Black model as the 2:00 mark. 2.2l Eco flo, 3rd door. Great economic vehicle.
I always watch these after purchase but good to watch, recently got a 94 Sonoma with the 4.3l vortec
My 1995 is getting a engine swap right now , only 72,000 miles and you can't keep a head gasket from leaking.
4:10 and 3:73 are alittle to much for a little truck as a daily driver, 300 + horsepower on that light rear-end is alot , it's light enough that 3:53 gears in a Ford 8.8 will still launch extremely fast.
as an owner of several S-10. yes, yes you should.
Just got an Xtreme myself but automatic but it's so clean
I have an 01 zr2 it's a good truck. Does good off road with the g80 rear-end
I just watch this over and over. I have a 98 and I love it. Well done. Thanks!
'97 extended cab, here. Love it.
A year ago, I would have asked you "how much?" Today, I wouldn't even consider it. 💸💸💸
2000 S10 ZR2 I bought it new and it rusted out by 2015. We put a rust free body on it with a sweet paintjob and I still drive it today. I probably get more compliments on it now than I did when it was new. 216,000 miles original engine and trans still doesn't even burn oil.
Where did this truck live? Not possibly in California. Vehicles, unless kept right on the coast, don't corrode much.
I always thought that the S10 was a really cool little truck👍🔧
Ive got 2 of them 03 zr2 and a 99 2wd. Good trucks that last a long time and cheap and easy to fix things when they need it.
I have a 98 s10 and its was a bit of work but well worth it nice body I have rebuilt the transmission and much much more but worth it
The ‘99 seats are so comfy even here in 2020
The previous owner of my 99 weighed like 400lbs and sat all the cushion out of the seats. Feels like driving a rock
I have a 2003 zr 2 yellow s-10 it has the 4.3 v 6 and it runs great this is my 3 rd s-10 I never plan on ever selling it is a great truck
I own a 2003 are chevy s-10 I have had it a couple years and I love it this is my 3rd s-10 they are great trucks
But also I don't really pay attention to if the oil pan is directly on the diff where it doesn't belong so there's that
Because I didn't know the engine mounts were out it naturally raised the transmission and drive shaft up enough for the drive shaft to put enough strain on the rear diff and leak diff oil which in turn blew up my diff.
I have a 4.3L one with 3.43 rear end. It gets a minimum of 16/24 mpg.

I really love my 2000 GMC Sonoma. But, its age is very apparent, and I don't have the funds to keep it going. It still runs well, but other systems are failing. ☹️
The paint needs to be redone, too. It has served me well, but, again, its age has caught up to it and me.

Secondary air pump? Never heard of or seen one on my 03 zr2
Nothing better than the Zr2 models in my opinion
I found a 97 s10 for 400 all it needs is a radio and a engine. Which means I could put a ls in it

Stay way from the 2.2s the 4.3 are the way to go if your buying an s10.
