Around '03 my now-ex-wife and I were out at yard sales with the kids. She went one way, we went another. She came back with a late 60s Tempro stencil snare in a fuchsia wood grain/tiger stripe wrap. She paid $15. It was in great condition, just needing new heads and minimal cleaning with all parts present and perfectly functional. It was obvious that it was loved and I swear that love seeped into the shell and hardware as it sounds amazing through a nice range of tunings and treatments including no treatment, wide open. It doesn't sound daft at all, drums definitely can hold mojo and I am unanimous in this ;) Thanks for sharing your arsenal with us.
Crazy to see this - I have those first two slingerlands as my 1st and 2nd snares down to the color. I used to play a wood Ludwig like yours but blue sparkle.
Great stuff Rob. I love the Slingerlands. I have a Sound King, sometimes known as a Gene Krupa and use it for a lot of gigs. It's a 14" x 6.5" chrome on brass shell with Stick-Saver hoops which are what I believe are on your student models mate 👍
those hoops on the Slingerlands look rounded over a bit like s hoops, I don't think they are chopper hoops, I don't know by the chopper hoops as far as I know are more of a straight edge,
i cant believe what i heard him say that his dw snare replicates a linn drum, for the record linn drums dominated the 80s has to be he worse music period in history.

Thank you for this, it helps me to justify buying another snare. Maybe :-) subscribed
Yes indeed, that's for sure! 👍😀

Thanks Martin, those hoops are ace I love 'em! Thanks for dropping by and thx for your support.
I have that same Krupa snare. Beautiful, loud, crisp, tone!!
My guess regarding taking the dampers out is that maybe they rattle or buzz
The dampeners get so loose after a while they come undone and you end up with the parts bouncing around inside the drum
