The Canadian jazz pianist Oscar Peterson (1925-2007) needs little introduction. As well as 60 years of performing and 200+ recordings, he somehow found the time in the 1960s to write a book of 'Jazz exercises, minuets, etudes & pieces for piano' which provide a sort of bridge between classical teaching material and jazz styles. The book is with 13 Jazz Exercises. Here i play No. 3.

I almost burst into tears. I left my beloved piano teacher few years ago because I didn't have enough time for music school anymore. This was one of the first jazz pieces he ever gave me. I accidentally found the sheets today, but couldn't remember how it was supposed to sound, so I played your video. I was definitely playing it slower, but memories still came flooding back.
I wasn't a good student, often unprepared, barely passing my exams. But he never judged me for that and we had a lot of good time together, finding new jazz pieces and experimenting with other instruments.
I really should pay him a visit, even though I know I'd be ashamed for not contacting him all this time.
Thank you so much for this video!!
I'm also watching from Poland :)

another proof than sometimes just a simple piano (or whatever instrument) exercise can become a legend. just like bach's prelude in c ....

Thank you so much for making this video! I know it takes a lot of effort to produce something like that. Thanks for sharing this piece, I play the piano but honestly these last years I didn´t take the time to study new pieces and practice technique, so this video encouraged me to practice and study again, thanks!

SO WONDERFUL AND INTERESTING INDEED!!!!! Again your favourite Oscar Peterson,
never I played his jazz music, therefore thank you for the sheet music. Do you sometimes
listen to Polish jazz music, mainly of Komeda, Nahorny, Miśkiewicz, Karolak, Dębski and
Nahorny? (it's worth to hear), as always all the best from Poland, have a nice day as well.

8 videos, thank you for these wonderful performances, mainly for your new delightful
recording, such a great marvellous impressive "Hymn to Freedom" by Oscar Peterson,
I think it's worth to record your tutorial for this masterpiece. Are you planning your tutorial
for "Hymn to Freedom" by Peterson in the future(???). I hope there will be your new jazz recordings soon, as every day all the best from Poland, have a relaxing Sunday.

on reflection to a previous comment the semiquaver runs start after a semi-quaver rest, rather than a quaver rest which is what is written.

The semiquaver runs are too rushed - all three of them fit in under 4 beats so pre-empting the first beat of the next bar
