Indonesia is the largest island country in the world, with thousands of islands. One of the largest islands in the country is Sumatra. In this video series we travel around West Sumatra, the land of Minangkabau and Mentawai people, with volcanoes, rainforests, wild beaches, lakes, and valleys.
Padang is the capital and the largest city of the province of West Sumatra. It is the starting point for traveling around the region, at the same time, it offers some interesting attractions, as well as the first impressions of the Minangkabau land. In this video, we arrive in Padang from Malaysia and explore the most essential points of the city.

How did you travel around? Taxi or is there public trnasport, taxi apps, whats the prices like etc

We traveled around the city mostly by Grab app. It is very convenient and cheap. Motorcycle Grab is cheaper than cars. For example, I paid only around 55000 Rp from the center to the airport, and for the short distances just between 8000 and 15000. Cars usually are 2x more expensive.

@@R_M_89 Yes, it is safe, not different than the other average Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam, Thailand, or Philippines. We saw families with children, but they go mostly to the Mentawai Islands because Mentawai is a funnier place for children. In Padang, mostly be careful with the traffic, and aware for pickpocketing in crowded places.
