I see a lot of people making jokes about dress/skirt patterns, but I want to point out, that as you add more rigid pendulums to a multi-pendulum system, it gets closer and closer to simulating a single pendulum made out of a flexible material, like cloth. Which is to say: Cloth physics are actually very closely related to multi-pendulum physics!
What if you experimented with ways of calculating a z value determined by X velocity of a segment or the average of it and it's neighbours and drawing only if z is positive or greater than before?
The math isn't too bad! Essentially, you can generalize the equations of a double pendulum to a pendulum with N links. This system turns out to be linear with respect to the angular acceleration of each point. What this means is that we can numerically solve for the angular acceleration using matrices, which makes it really easy to compute. If you're interested, I described the math in more detail here: maksimovichsam.github.io/#/n_pendulum
One of the problem is self intersections. Technically this is not a realizable pendulum. Even if you allow for 3D movement the behavior would then change. Ideally you would model each segment physically so it interacts with other segments. This could be more easily done by essentially checking for interactions between each segment and then computing force relations and treating each interaction as perfectly inelastic. This then also gives you another degree of freedom to work with(several actually) by having mass(e.g., you could do top heavy, bottom heavy, middle heavy, random, etc).
I wanna see it moving in the third dimension, extruding a surface. And then use that surface as terrain for a tribes ascend clone on unreal engine lol. skiing up down all those mountains and valleys :O pendulum terrain generation
intro quote is wrong. because, how about infinity? that is no maximum or minimum, it is an unending place beyond our capability of understanding. checkmate naturalists/atheists
or, what about zero or DNE? that is also something unable to be obtained. you can write zero, DNE, or infinities on a paper... but you cannot entirely, searingly, purely experience those ineffable dreams. that is what “God,” “Tao,” “The Universe,” is.
I wonder what a triple (and further) pendulum would look like if the pendulums can only influence the ones below it simply from rotating around their vertices, and therefor being unable to influence the one above it. Unsure how to describe, take it as you see it.
Given length L, when equally divided into n segments with properties you describe, with n going to infinity, the whole system becomes a rope system. In other words n-tuple pendulums approximate ropes or cloth.
Nowhere near as satisfying as a simple double pendulum where you can fully appreciate the chaotic nature. Sometimes less is more - keep going like that and you might as well swing a length of chain or something. Now the music, that's the star here.
But don't you think it's fascinating that, as you add more and more pendulums, which you would expect to increase the chaos of the system, the results get closer and closer to a less chaotic system, like a simple length of rope?
So this is how Touhou character outfits are made
God how I knew I would find a comment like this lmaoo

If it means anything, the first thing I thought of when seeing the thumbnail was Iku Nagae due to the colours. Ehe...

Cloth: The infinite multi-pendulum
Surely you mean a ten-dulum :-) Interested in what software you used to calculate
This is something that could easily be simulated in most any programming language you like. As far as rendering, that’s a bit trickier
@@1495978707 even the rendering seems pretty simple. This could be done in less than an hour in Processing
what software they used? they made one themself, the github is in the description
He stated he used pure JS. He probs just recorded the video rather than actually rendering
Really neat way of rendering! Love this illusion of shading it creates.
It kind of looks like the kind of skirt pattern that would make textiles students cry. Lovely
Me trying to figure out how to draw dresses
It's like a reflection of life. You may not know where you're going but sometimes the soundtrack is banging.
When the chapters in the video are not based on something about the pendulum, but on the music.
to be fair it's pretty good music
I started getting aggressive and sad at 2:12 when every other pendulum overwrote the first pendulums perfect almost circle
So that's how they make table napkins.
What if you experimented with ways of calculating a z value determined by X velocity of a segment or the average of it and it's neighbours and drawing only if z is positive or greater than before?
Try it!
My highest pendulum was a double pendulum. How you've done thot 10-pendulum?
The math of it must be crazy! Or something easy with approximation?

So weird at 2:37 the bottoms one makes almost a straight line for a bit
Cloth physics are very similar the multi pengulim problem, which is why this can look like cloth
If this isn't the wedding dress I will no longer attend weddings
I keep finding your comments hahaha.
I like the spinning part here 2:45
Math is smexy
And so is physics
Looks oddly like really long pencil shavings
Who knew pendulums were such fashion icons
Why am I so interested in this
I liked the layering effect.
it would appear as if the youtube algorithm has blessed us with yet another video from 2 years ago

"I used computers to turn the pendulum into a nazi..."
what a lovely video. thank you, algorithm
Does it render in frames per second or seconds per frame? :P
From the comment section , i conclude that algorithm brought us together again.
Great vid, I like the music :)
Make a 3d version of this please I am dying
Oh that's a Tendulum!
I see we've all been brought to admire this pendulum by the youtube algorithm

What!? No, of course I didn't watch all ten minutes!!! That would be crazy...
> The animation is slowed down to ~40 seconds in length (could be much slower for a slower computer)
What do you mean by this?
cloth sim
I wanna see it moving in the third dimension, extruding a surface. And then use that surface as terrain for a tribes ascend clone on unreal engine lol. skiing up down all those mountains and valleys :O pendulum terrain generation
What decides which points appear in front of the others at different times?
Now do 1 minute of a 1-pendulum
How come a string doesn't do this? Isn't it just a pendulum with infinite points?
What it we called it a "ten-dulum"? That would be funny, i think.
How did you create this beautiful visualization?
Please don’t tell me that I’m the only one who thought of Tendulum 😂😂😂
Khai dreams background music
Idk what this is but the music is relaxing.
2:39 vibes
Just kidding of course
This, imho, is what math was born for. Beauty.
okay but why does the thumbnail look like a dress

The bgm reminds me of a certain shark
Thank you so mcuh for sharing this
Why I am cannot set 10x speed
so basically, there is no god
i do not know what that thumbnail is but
ok
Your channel is amazing
Is it only me or dies this look like cloth?
This looks like a flower at the end

@@RealLifeKyurem hmmmm gotcha, gotcha

The TENdulum
Oh god MY BRAIN
lol this is life
Beautiful

I like to think that the music is coordinated to the pendulum when actually they aren't affiliated at all
The costume and flair of a classical Japanese dancer.
At around 3:20 it looks like some kind of cool graffiti
Watched a ten-dulum at 10x speed. Fun!
Just beautiful! Thank you!
When it goes 3d I see so many human parts
This produces some very cool visuals
This video gives me goosebumps
This is intensely satisfying.
This made me think...

It’s the kind of thing that is beautiful and scary at the same time
