There are actually at least two distinct Mississippi accents: The northern third of the state tends to have an accent very similar to a Western Tennessee Twang. The other two-thirds have more of a Deep South Drawl.
actually there are quite a few of accents in Mississippi, I would say as many as there are communitys, where one would say coke, or soda, or sodi water (in some places) (( I DON"T KNOW, I have heard it from the older of the population.)) MOST OF US MISSISSIPPIANS REALIZED MANY YEARS AGO THAT WE ARE IN THIS THING CALLED LIFE TOGETHER. PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE SINK OR SWIM AS ONE. MY FRIENDS BLACK & WHITE KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE. NOW IF WE CAN JUST GET THE REST OF YOU FOLKS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY ON BOARD MAYBE REAL PROGRESS CAN FINALLY BE MADE TO BENEFIT US ALL. PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@mikebeasley9793 i agree 100% with you Mike
@@1956wm THANK YOU SO MUCH! WE MISSISSIPPIANS NEED TO STICK TOGETHER NO DOUBT!!!!!!!!!!
I lived there roughly 10 years ago, my dad got a job transfer and moved us to Tennessee. I was so mad that I nearly stayed and moved in with a couple of friends that were offering to let me move in and finish high school and go to college. But, my dad talked me into moving. Now I’m trying to move my family back because I miss it so much down there. My wife and I have been talking about it for years now and I think we can finally make it happen. Just waiting on a couple of phone calls for jobs before we make the trek.
Edit: plan to move didn’t work out, had a job offer and then they just quit communicating.
Old Miss has a beautiful campus. William Faulkner lived there for a while.
Or Ole Miss (sp.)?
As a native Mississippian….
1) Don’t waste your time in Jackson. There is no local culture left there, and you might get shot dead in broad daylight.
2) Don’t eat at “national chain” restaurants. The local small joints will have the very best food for you.
3) The proper way to say it…
Pecan = “Puh-Kahn”
Pralines = “Praw-Leans”
Good job, greetings from Meridian, Ms home of Jimmie Rodgers(father of country music)
Thanks , nice video. Feels like your´re my personal guide for my upcoming trip to US!
I love your channel! You doing that great! It helps so much to pick new destinations. 😁 Thank you!
That is awesome to hear. Thank you
I’m a native Mississippian❤️. Thanks for a lovely take on our state! We love this state and many things have changed which few people understand. My family wasn’t happy about the Confederate flag by the way. It’s a beautiful welcoming place to be. Come see us.
By the way. Natchez is pronounced ‘Natch-iz ‘. A minor point❤️
I LOVE MS😍
great content as always, keep em coming
Luuvvvv Mississippi!! Period! ❤❤
Thanks for the great video on things to do in my home state of MS! We natives get a little testy when you butcher Natchez! So glad you know the difference now!
In 1968 I got drunk and refered to the state as '"pissy missy" I am still afraid to go back.
Welcome to God's Country great video
@2nd Place Since 1865 it’s been nine months. That’s a pitiful ratio.
You need to come to Tishomingo County Mississippi checkout Tishomingo State Park
Yes, Tishomingo State Park is beautiful!
Thanks
The Delta will surprise you though. First time I've seen a shantytown in the USA was there.
I'm from Mississippi and the first time I saw a shantytown was in Bakersfield, California. They're all over unfortunately.
@@mississippirougarou Wtf is a shanty town? From Cleveland, Ms
What state are you from? I’m from MS and it’s funny listening to you talk about us. Thank you for being positive. Most people think we are backwoods. Lol
Great video !
Don't worry about mispronouncing Natchez .
Everyone does it . . . and you are only pronouncing the name as it's written.
I do hope you produce more Mississippi videos !
Great share my friend
Looks like a terrific place. Thank you sir!
Mississippi is one of the most evil places on earth, the Emmett Till trial proved that. Only place where you can torture a little boy to death for no good reason and not only avoid consequences but be held as a hero for it.. I hate mississippi 😒
I love that confederate flag beautiful state
Try boiled peanuts! They’re delicious!
Im from Jackson MS a few years ago I went to Omaha Nebraska and sold boiled peanuts and made a killing.. Sold ove 1000 pounds in a day...
@@brandonballenger133 wow!!! How did you get green pnuts to boil in OK?? I have brought some back from GA but can't get them shipped to us in Illinois.
Bethany, boiled peanuts are a Wolters family favorite!
@@WoltersWorldEats i brought them with me from MS.. I was on tour with a band and had a way to transport them lol
@@brandonballenger133 1000lbs of peanuts?! You were bettin high, weren't you!😆 But then, it is boiled peanuts 🥜
Hey, can you put the link to the missisipi food video in the description?
Well, one of the first things you should focus on is learning how to pronounce some of our cities properly. But you’re super respectful, so no harm done!
Collins, MS here!!! 🌎
Do not go to Jackson after dark, some areas turn into a free fire zone.
The BIGGEST "don't" for visiting Mississippi is... don't forget the mosquito spray. 😂
i an going to natchez next year on a deep south holiday. i am from liverpool england so i know what you mean about accents. we have a very strong accent even some other places in england cant understand us😁 so we have got something in common.👍
It's ok to say Sweet tea or unsweet. Try the Luch Box in Waveland Ms on our Coast=the PO boys are close to our New Orleans food A lot of us here on the Coast are from Louisiana , we speak different the north of the I ten.The Luch box food is good price , locally owned, Best Food for tummy and wallett..
Interesting fat near baxterville is the Tatum salt Dome this site the the only nuclear weapons test site east of the Mississippi
Just started eating a lot more shrimp (prawns as we call them on this side of the Atlantic) and I'd love to come to Mississippi. Fish is such a nice change from animal meat, particularly for things like fajitas, and small prawns cook quickly.
Coast does fabulous fish tacos!
How dare you compare a prawn to a shrimp?!? Can’t beat the taste of gulf shrimp. Prawns have no taste!
@@lgringo7 That's exactly why I want to come and taste it! (Prawn/shrimp is used interchangeably here in the UK and most of the shrimp is marketed as prawn -- like, king prawns are what you call jumbo shrimp.) But yeah, definitely want to come and sample some!
Real fajitas are beef only. Chicken and shrimp “fajitas” are an American invented abomination.
Bilioxi is the place to be in Mississippi and Vicksburg
Now I have to go to see Robert Johnson's place.
Try visiting Holly Springs, Mississippi. My hometown.
Little trivia for you, at the begininng of the Civil War Mississippi was the wealthiest Confederate state. King Cotton!
I’ll add one more. Don’t stop in Jackson.
Check out the Lauren Rodgers Museum of Art in Laurel Mississippi. Maybe the best art museum in a small town in all of the USA
There are actually at least two distinct Mississippi accents: The northern third of the state tends to have an accent very similar to a Western Tennessee Twang. The other two-thirds have more of a Deep South Drawl.
actually there are quite a few of accents in Mississippi, I would say as many as there are communitys, where one would say coke, or soda, or sodi water (in some places) (( I DON"T KNOW, I have heard it from the older of the population.)) One Don't to really pay attention to is DON"T talk down to us, Don't think we are all "HICKS" and "Backward" and "Racist!" We are Not!!
@@jeffreyharville1918 I think the Delta has a distinct drawl
Man I love them old houses! Great architecture. Happy 4th Wolters family. When was this video made?✌😎👍🇺🇲🎆🎇✨🧨
Filmed it in November
