To all our Natchez fans, I apologize for butchering how I said Natchez. I now know of that the true way to say Natchez as a local is Natches like matches. My apologies, and I will do my best to not say it the Natchez wrong way again.
No big deal, but you should go to Woodville MS, a lot of history. Very small town. Just south of Natchez.
It’s cool, we forgive ya, lol!
Has man born in Collins Mississippi I will forgive you. You got the coke part right. Please keep makeing videos.
If I ever visit America, I would like to see the South. The people, cuisine and history will 100x compensate for the hot and humid weather😎. Greetings from Poland.
Y'all come back now you hear! Mississippi is the best-kept secret in these states. I was born here and it's my intention to die here. I've worked in every state in the United States but I always call Mississippi home. Thanks for your content and keep up the good work
I always enjoy your videos and as a native Mississippian I say "thank you" for all the positive things you said about Mississippi. Many times we get a bad "rap" from being stereotyped.
Beautiful state!
Maybe it should go it's own way.
i live in texas and have lots of family in mississippi. truly the most depressing times in my life when i have to visit. it’s such a dump
Maybe the stereotypes are true. As a native Mississippian I can say that
@@buckzee289 they are lol
I’m from Texas, but I live in Biloxi and work in Ocean Springs. I do not want to live anywhere else. When it comes to entertainment and food, I recommend the Beau Rivage. I may work elsewhere or travel for work but I will still live in Biloxi. Thank you for sharing Mississippi. I love for people who don’t live here to know the diversity the entire state has to offer.
We love their creme breulaix
I'm from a small town called Poplarville, MS. If you come sometime in beginning of June we have a festival called the Blueberry Jubilee! It is so much fun!! Lots of food!
Been there,love it.
I was in High School in Baton Rouge late 90's we use to go a retreat center in Popularville with Young life group.I can't remember the name of that center.
I’m was in lumberton then moved to Hattiesburg
Same here! Been living there for a long time
Love blueberry fest.
As a MS girl, thank you for doing our state justice and showing it the love and respect we deserve.
I feel the same (:
I like people from MS
Mississippi has some good food bbq and beaches bilioxi tupelu and Vicksburg
Mississippi, one of my favorite States, is a chronically misunderstood State. Very true, it has a lot of interesting cultural sites; the whole State just exudes friendliness, helpfulness and politeness. l just don't have words to sing Mississippi's praises!
I stumbled across your video by accident, and just had to watch because of your title. I was rewarded with a fantastic visitor's guide to my home state! Thank you for no bashing, and for the positive video! I hope more folks will want to visit because of your awesome video. Please come back soon!
As someone who has lived my entire life in Mississippi, I love this video.
P.s. this video was released on my 19th birthday.

Don’t think that if you make a great video about MS, that MIssissippians won’t like and subscribe!

Great job from a Hattiesburg, Mississippi. We have great restaurants in town here
I agree about Hattiesburg's restaurants. Some of the best food I've ever had.
Thanks for a positive video. Growing up I'm Mississippi, I couldn't wait to leave. But after living in CA, AZ, UT and NYC, I appreciate being back home in small town Mississippi. Wanting a Coke and peanuts now.

I’m from Natchez and have been following your channel for years. Glad to see you went to many of the best city spots! 🤗
Thank you. I have a donts of Natchez video coming out later this summer so you will have to let me know how we do
Can’t wait to see the “Must Eats of Mississippi” video. I’ve been to the state on business and enjoyed a very iconic local dish. Hope Mark and fam gave it a try. 🤔😆
As a native Mississippian, thank you for focusing on the great things our state has to offer. As for sports teams, give Mississippi State their due. Our Dawgs just won the college World Series in Omaha and our baseball stadium is considered the “Carnage Hall” of stadiums, complete with apartments with large private balconies overlooking the field. As for football tailgating SEC style, The Grove, is a not to be missed experience. After all the food and drinks the fans will share with you, you’ll be content to sit in the shade of those magnificent trees and watch the game on a TV found in many of the tents. Enjoy Mississippi from a house divided; Hail State/Hotty Toddy!
You know your state sucks when sports are the only thing it has to offer
@@gaythugsmatter7029 Well bless your heart. Mississippi has famous writers, blues, unbelievable food, gorgeous beaches, native history and much more. But we also value manners, so you would definitely wouldn't enjoy our beautiful, history filled state. Do everyone a favor and please don't come.
@@tupelohoney622 Yeah if my ass was in Mississippi I would get spit on or lynched, no thanks.

I really appreciate this gents kind attitude toward our state and its historic sights, manners, customs ,food,l am most grateful, Mississippi is not always treated with such respect
Thank you! As a local I believe you did a wonderful job with this and you were spot on. Natchez is one of our favorite towns as well and my wife and I enjoy going down there for a weekend getaway.
Thank you so much. Mississippi, especially the Blues Trail and Vicksburg, is a Bucket List Road Trip for me.
Mississippi has beaches in the gulf coast and a-lot museums and casinos
I'm from Natchez, and as soon as I saw Stanton Hall behind you, I knew this would be good. I'd suggest taking a carriage ride there. The drivers give good history information about the buildings and homes, and they are brutally honest about Antebellum period- you'll learn things not taught in school.
Thank you so much. I am a world traveler but the nicest people are in Mississippi. ❤️
I'm a fellow Mississippian and this video explains everything we have here! Thank you for making this video and highlighting our key features!
Great job on this video I’ve lived in a small town outside of tupelo all my life and you did a great job on this video!!👍
I lived in Tupelo last year. I'm back in Oxford now.
Uploaded in July but looks like it was filmed last fall?
The #1 don't of visiting Mississippi (as he said in his Alabama video) is 'don't visit in July or August. Too hot'
Unless you're trying to give someone a taste of what opening the gates to hell may feel like.
You should really come during July. They have the Neshoba county fair that is referred to as Mississippi's Giant House Party. Basically a lot of great concerts for a week and food, family events, art exhibits, and rides. Usually one week later "The Choctaw Indian Fair" happens where there are all kinds of cultural events to learn from, including watching stick all games and watching the traditional dancing and beautiful clothing worn.
I live next door in Newton county 👍
Thanks for the tip about the petrified forest! I love your positive views on things as always. I'm thinking of moving to the south in the future and you made it sound a lot more positive than most so thanks for that!

Thank you, Mark, for the wonderful video!
Thank you
My hubby and I will be in Mississippi this summer. I hope we have as good a time as you had.
We call all soda Coke here in New Mexico too lol love the video! I’m going to New Orleans in November and I was thinking about renting a car and taking a quick drive to the Biloxi area
Here in New Orleans, we never say "soda" or "pop." They are called "Soft Drinks." The Gulf Coast in Mississippi is great. Beautiful people. Hurricane Katrina devastated the area and most of the old, beautiful southern homes on the beach road were totally gone afterwards. Washed away. Everyone is coming back stronger. Don't only go to Biloxi and Gulfport, but also check out Bay St. Louis and Waveland. Enjoy your trip. Safe travels.
So what do you idiots say if you actually want a coke?
I live in Northeast Mississippi. I visited New Orleans in March and I fell in love. We stayed at the convention center Marriott and that was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. The city was beautiful and every single person I met was amazing. I'll definitely go back next vacation. Its my favorite place in the world

We welcome everyone, be sure come to the Coast.
This was informative, my husband is in the Navy and we were stationed there for a little over 3 years. We didn’t get to see everything so this excites me! We lived in Ocean Springs. My husband and I are born and raised Californians but we are going to retire in MS. We loved it so much and can’t wait to get back! Our kids loved it to and talk about going back all the time! We also loved how close all the neighboring states were, you can just pick up and in anywhere from 45mins-2hrs, you can be in a different state doing something else.
Our surrounding states still feel like home to me because I’ve visited so much. I’m so glad y’all love it too! Hurry back!
Tip from a Mississippian, if you want to get some good food visit flowood and Starkville.
Ocean Springs is a particularly quaint and historic town on the coast and definitely worth a visit, the total opposite feel as Biloxi. I've also visited Vicksburg for the battlefield and it was a great experience, I'll be visiting Natchez next year, hopefully staying at Dunleith. And yes the Confederate flag doesn't bother me at all as a person of color since I"m also from the South (Louisiana), no different than someone flying an Irish or Italian flag to show their heritage and its used for regional pride too.
are you black?
The Ms. flag has been changed to feature a magnolia in the center...the confederate flag has been removed.
You gotta move slow or you will die of heatstroke haha! The humidity is probably the #1 thing you will remember about Mississippi if you visit during the summer. I come from a small town called Magee, MS

Thanks for a good, and honest review of our state.
I lived there roughly 10 years ago, my dad got a job transfer and moved us to Tennessee. I was so mad that I nearly stayed and moved in with a couple of friends that were offering to let me move in and finish high school and go to college. But, my dad talked me into moving. Now I’m trying to move my family back because I miss it so much down there. My wife and I have been talking about it for years now and I think we can finally make it happen. Just waiting on a couple of phone calls for jobs before we make the trek.
Edit: plan to move didn’t work out, had a job offer and then they just quit communicating.

I appreciate your praise and honest appraisal of Mississippi. I lived the first half of my life in Ohio and the Midwest and the second half (over 20 years) in Mississippi. It’s a really good place to live and raise kids and often gets a bad rap. Keep up the good work and enjoyable videos.
Don’t come to Laurel, Mississippi just because the HGTV show Hometown with Ben and Erin is filmed here. People from all over the country are moving here and ruining our reputation by finding out that we are educated, can read, have teeth, and have a large concentration of millionaires. They also watch the movie Free State of Jones with Matthew McConaughey and realize that we aren’t really into the civil war.

One of the most disrespectful things to do in Ms is NOT to pull over to the side of the road when a funeral line is passing by. Even if you do not know the person that died, you can still respect the grieving love ones that did. Remember death comes to all and it will be your family one day that will be given the respect due them or will you be the one speeding by to go wait in line somewhere else.

Love your channel and thank you for a very fair report on my home state. Your pronunciation of Natchez does not bother me at all.We have a lot of towns and rivers that are a little tricky to pronounce. We can blame it on a fusion of the first 2 groups of people that lived here: Native Americans and the French. Towns like Shuqualak(Sugar Lock), Kosciusko, Bogue Chitto,, Gautier, Nanih Waiya, Hushpuckena..
Spot on comments about our food. Jackson has a large number of quality restaurants for a mid-sized city. You get very spoiled living here. My rule of thumb is never eat shrimp north of Memphis. Also, if someone invites you to a pot-luck (commonly called “Dinner on the Ground”) lunch at their church, go even if you are an Atheist.
My last Don’t would be Don’t knock Mississippi unless you’ve been there. Thanks for the video and I hope you and your family return soon!
Just started eating a lot more shrimp (prawns as we call them on this side of the Atlantic) and I'd love to come to Mississippi. Fish is such a nice change from animal meat, particularly for things like fajitas, and small prawns cook quickly.
Coast does fabulous fish tacos!
How dare you compare a prawn to a shrimp?!? Can’t beat the taste of gulf shrimp. Prawns have no taste!
@@lgringo7 That's exactly why I want to come and taste it! (Prawn/shrimp is used interchangeably here in the UK and most of the shrimp is marketed as prawn -- like, king prawns are what you call jumbo shrimp.) But yeah, definitely want to come and sample some!
Iv been 2 times (From the UK) my GF is from there and i have a friend that lives in Slidell, Louisiana. had a amazing time, driving big American cars and trucks, All meeting up in Biloxi beach Go karting, gambaling, eating, shooting guns, escape rooms, and in Louisiana swamp tours. went to native American reservation land too. stayed around Hattiesburg and went to small towns like Pachuta and Magee witch has the Zips cafe claim to have the best burger in MS. (idk if its the best iv had but it was still really good and would easily stop by to get another if in the area the Zips sauce is really good too.)

Old Miss has a beautiful campus. William Faulkner lived there for a while.

Cool video you made a lot of great points and missed a lot of great points... It's more colleges than Ole Miss and State. You also have some big time HBCU's here in MS, Jackson State University was first Jackson College bk in the 1877 in Natchez. Did u know back in the day Natchez was the capital of MS then later moved as Jackson is the capital. Also don't forget the famous Catfish farmed raised or wild caught. Great great great.
Washington, Mississippi, near Natchez, was the first capital of Mississippi.
Great video! As a local, you hit the nail on the head!! BUT you forgot to mention the great beaches we have on the coast. It's honestly a completely different experience in Coastal Mississippi than the rest of the state. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it.

Born and raised here in Vicksburg, just north of Natchez and, like many previous commenters I want to say thank you for being honest and positive about us. We aren't called the Hospitality State for nothing! As for the Confederate Memorials and such, we Mississippians were born and raised around it. Being from Vicksburg, it's everywhere here. If Vicksburg didn't have it, our tourism industry would be practically nothing and that is our "cash cow" you could say. So the whole don't kill the hen that lays the golden eggs thing... While you "Hotty Totty", I'll be over here ringing my cow bell, Hail State Ya'll!
I LOVE MS😍
There are actually at least two distinct Mississippi accents: The northern third of the state tends to have an accent very similar to a Western Tennessee Twang. The other two-thirds have more of a Deep South Drawl.
actually there are quite a few of accents in Mississippi, I would say as many as there are communitys, where one would say coke, or soda, or sodi water (in some places) (( I DON"T KNOW, I have heard it from the older of the population.)) One Don't to really pay attention to is DON"T talk down to us, Don't think we are all "HICKS" and "Backward" and "Racist!" We are Not!!
@@jeffreyharville1918 I think the Delta has a distinct drawl
Really wish I saw the parts of Mississippi you saw! I must admit we passed through Biloxi on the way to NOLA, but got spooked by the Jeff Davis home. Really regret not giving it a chance
No reason to get spooked bro its just a piece of history on the coast! If you pass through again check it out! You'll learn some cool history!
For what it's worth, I am a dark skinned black man and I love traveling to Biloxi. No one bothers me. I even go to back roads restaurants and no one bothers me. People are extra nice. In fact, next time I am actually going to tour the Jeff Davis house. Also, I have traveled all over the state. No one has said one thing out of line to me and I have not gotten as much as one strange look.
@@TheTruth27536 Mississippi is integrated like any other place. Families are mixed. Like it or not, it's the reality. The Mississippi ghosts can only last as long as people want to believe in them. Some people think Mississippi is a place where there still are lynching's and regular Klan rallies. It's a very false narrative. If you live in Mississippi you know better. But people outside Mississippi don't.
Everyone's trying to get on with their lives and live peacefully within a changing world.
